What is Peppo, exactly. Peppo's gender has never been confirmed. All we have is the Counts word that Peppo is a guy and almost everything the count says is a lie. Now since we cant trust the count, Peppo's Gender will be decided by vote, as this is the only way to get an accurate answer.

In the original novel, Peppo was a young boy, who Albert mistook for a girl, because it was dark.

This whole "it was never explicitly proven" thing is a bit laughable to me. It seems like a desperate justification for thinking Peppo is hot. ;)
Who needs a justification anyways. If it looks pretty, you hit it.

One of the few things I actually remember when I read the book that I never finished since it was like 1000 pages long or something.

Ah Peppo! For anyone who haven't watched Gankutsuou yet, I demand you to go watch it NOW! It is an amazing series that is very over looked and underrated. But off of that, Peppo is a hawt Trap! (Why wasn't that one of the poll options!?!) I loved his character though, I enjoyed watching him. He's one of my favorites of the series.

A girl. I just reckon the Count said she was a guy to discourage Edward from being interested in her.

EDIT: I take that back. Read the manga.

Take it back after reading the damn original NOVEL please.
Preferably one of the unabridged editions. Abridged leaves out too many interesting scenes in the NOVEL.

....Edward? I'm gonna guess you mean Albert?

And not everything the count says is a lie. There's not really any merit for Edmond to lie to Albert about it. And they do confirm in the anime, manga and original novel that Peppo is technically a boy.

Peppo's just a really convincing trap :P

Meh, the original novel is a legend in all literature classes. The anime botched up A LOT.

But seriously though, the anime is depressing as hay. It's more of an adaptation of "The Series of Unfortunate Events" than the Count of Monte Cristo.

The anime is NOTHING compared to the novel - which I guess I'm the only one that read. Sad, really. All the good points of the anime? Script straight from the book, nothing more. Everything else it touched left you depressed and miserable for 15 long episodes (5-20).

I wished someone told me about this; why does everyone rate it a 10?! I'll never understand...

I know Count said a lot of lies but he has no reason or no benefit in telling this particular lie. In fact, he seems to be the type who would mix the truth with the lies in order to make his lies more effective, and seeing as he has no reason to lie in this particular case, we can safely take his word for it, and hence Poppo is, unfortunately, a boy.

My headcanon says something different though.

Transgender woman. There's not really much to suggest Peppo is a femboy bc, despite what the Count says (after all, he was discouraging Albert), she never actually identifies herself as male. This has left her quite ambiguous over the years but her being a trans woman fits the bill far more as she only ever takes on a female identity and never once takes on a male one.
