A while ago, I made a half-assed search online for english versions of the Haruhi books. Failing that I conceded to reading the manga, but never got around to it. Now I am about to read the manga and thinking "Maybe I should read the books". Anyway my question is

Where can I obtain the official english version of the books in Australia (ebooks are fine if they're cheaper than the physical books)?

I got mine at The Book Depository. They can get kinda expensive though, especially if you want the hard covers. You could always go for the paper backs though if you are on more of a budget.

I've seen Haruhi at places online, but if you mean in an actual store, Barnes and Noble has had the book in stock before, as well as other light novel/manga series. If you're still in school, I know a friend of mine found one of the books in his school library. I'd also check used book stores like Half Priced Books, since it's an older series, you'll probably have the best luck there.

Edit: I'm in the US, so the names of the stores might be different.

I bought the first two volumes years ago but then didn't read them all this time. I finally decided to read the series last month and now volumes 3-10 all cost way, way, more than the cover price at all the major book vendors. It's a pain because I'm really enjoying the books and want to have the full set. For now I've been borrowing the volumes I don't already own from the local library, which thankfully has the lot of them. If I had to suck it up and pay current rates, I may just buy The Disappearance, which was probably my favourite entry in the series.

I just ended up "obtaining" the pdf, and proceeded to get bored before finishing the series. So good thing I didn't buy this series of books I wouldn't finish.
