Thunderbolt Fantasy team don't use CG, they use puppets, like Nightmare Before Christmas also used puppets, like The Corpse Bride also used puppets. So it's not an anime hence the reason it's not on MAL,.

I think it's one of the best show of the season, so much stuff happening, lots of combats, likable characters, etc.

You can see the puppets they use there:

It should also be stated that while Nightmare Before Christmas uses puppets, it is stop motion animation which is allowed on MAL. Thunderbolt Fantasy is done in real time so that means while it is using puppets, it isn't animation therefore not anime.

I personally think the Thunderbolt Fantasy look great considering the amount of work that was put into the show from the Taiwanese puppet studio.

From just general screenshots I've seen I thought it was something similar to Robot Chicken.

If you watch the behind the scenes special then you'll get what I'm saying.
But no, they are actually doing it in real time. These things aren't just hand puppets and the sets are massive for a puppet show. The story goes that Gen Urobuchi decided to create this show after watching a puppet show during his trip to Taiwan.

Well I'm literally less than a minute into this and I'm already impressed.

What I have to say is it is an entertaining show, but don't expect the plot to break new ground. If you can accept it for what it is trying to be then hop along Gen Urobuchi's wild ride.
Like what the special said, "Animation is a thing of the past, puppets are the way of the future." (I don't what less animation, but if there are more puppet shows like this then I'm all for it).

I've generally heard it has the same absurdity that something like JoJo has.

For me:
Thunderbolt Fantasy is absurd because it is a ancient chinese drama (I think they're called wuxia) played out with puppets. That alone is pretty absurd.
Jojo is absurd because it can get pretty weird/unique. eg Azetec gods of fitness and punching spaghetti.
Ethier way I love them both.
