This year's seventh issue of Kodansha's Weekly Shōnen Magazine revealed the staff and a key visual for the upcoming television anime of Tsuyoshi Yasuda's DAYS soccer manga on Wednesday.

Kônosuke Uda (One Piece, Ginga e Kickoff!!, Majin Bone) is directing the anime at MAPPA (Terror in Resonance, Rage of Bahamut Genesis). Kazuto Nakazawa (El-Hazard: The Wanderers, The Legend of Black Heaven, Terror in Resonance) is designing the characters for animation. Masafumi Mima (Macross Frontier, Infinite Stratos, Attack on Titan) is in charge of sound direction at Technosound. Yoshihiro Ike (Empire of Corpses, Cobra The Animation, Rage of Bahamut Genesis) is composing the music. Pony Canyon is producing the music.

The manga centers on two boys who were never meant to meet: Tsukushi Tsukamoto, who has no special skills but secretly hides a passionate heart, and Jin Kazama, an isolated soccer genius. On a stormy night, the two meet, and that meeting creates a whirlwind in the world of high school soccer.

Yasuda launched DAYS in Weekly Shōnen Magazine in April 2013, and Kodansha published the 14th compiled volume on November 17. The company will publish the 15th compiled volume on January 15. The manga was nominated in the Best Shōnen Manga category for Kodansha's 39th Annual Manga Awards in March, and it ranked at #12 on the Honya Club website's "Nationwide Bookstore Employees' Recommended Comics of 2014" list.

Yasuda's Over Drive bicycle manga was adapted into a 26-episode television anime series with director Takao Kato (Busou Renkin, To Love-Ru) in 2007.

I'm pretty excited now, I don't like soccer, but I like MAPPA.

I don't really dig the character design, but it's Mappa so this could be interesting regardless.
5 main aspects I base my ratings on:
1. Did DramaEnthusiast make a thread about it?
2. Is it better than Breaking Bad?
3. Did MellowJello recommend the shit out of it?
4. Has it caused a (very entertaining) shitstorm on MAL?
5. Is it actually good?

Scratch the fifth point, it's not very relevant...

This was already leaked, but now that it's officially confirmed I'll give it a try. The staff is solid & this is mappa's first venture in sports genre, might be fun.

It's MAPPA you know.
Imagine a berserk anime by Yoshiaki kawajiri at Madhouse.

Now take a look at Berserk (2016).

YOU HAVE MY PERMISSION TO CRY.

Was hoping for IG, but they can't do every sports anime. Mappa isn't too bad, so I don't have an issue with this.
People on MAL refuse to actually enjoy watching anime.

Your taste in anime isn't a personality trait.

MAL is literally just anime Twitter as its own website lol.

Love MAPPA's works, especially Garo the Animation and Sakamichi no Apollon are my favorites. I'm glad they took this one.
The boys look good. This will be my first anime about football although it's my least favorite sport and I almost never watch it irl. Looking forward to the anime.

Don't get what being MAPPA have to do with anything. It's just an adaptation.

Didn't know about this anime. Will watch it since i like football. Don't get why there isn't that many football anime not aimed at kids, it's a popular sport in Japan.

Can't get over how silly the mc's design looks, like he seems straight out of a different anime. Other than that it looks great. Could this be the first well animated football anime?

Studios are really important in anime adaptations. Deen's Fate/Stay Night is an example.

MAPPA normally does things with great quality so i'm sure i'll be watching this
