Greetings.

Please, give club admins the power to look into club forum thread poll votes. Furthermore, allow them to set some sort of requirements for people to be able to vote in polls. Those could include but not be limited to a specific quantity of forum posts, profile comments, and registration date.

We are requesting this because various community clubs tend to hold competitions which decide the winner through votes. The unfortunate part is that many times, these competitions are bent and many entries disqualified due to people creating alternative accounts in order to vote in the favor of their favorite pick. We would like to prevent this and keep the competitions fair.

Such specific limitations don't necessarily have to pose a limit to thread poll votes alone, but can do so at other focuses such as general ability to post in the forum board, comments section, join the club in the first place, etc. with all of it being up to the club admins to decide.

Thank you.

Before anyone says "Try an alternative polling method, like commenting who you vote for to prevent unknown cheating" unless you've managed a competition before... please refrain from suggesting this. It's a hassle beyond your comprehension. I greatly dislike the idea even tough it's extremely efficient.

I'm fully for this suggestion. It makes no sense to not have this! It makes cheating almost 100% easier to monitor! This not only applies to a club's need to create fair competitions, but really anything that can be taken seriously to benefit a certain group of people like Card Editions or layout themes and stuff of the such. I hope this ran through some of the MAL mod's minds in the past, but deterred them due to the possibility of a coding disaster. If this wasn't the case, I only hope coding isn't a bitch. It'd be a great addition for clubs and make them more flexible with how they operate with their ideas.

I'm going to have to second this. Many clubs are finding that when they hold voting competitions, strange things happen. I know that there are probably some security concerns with this, but with an active development team and updated security features, I think the risk of any issues is minimal.

Might you explain what kind of security concerns you would be referring to, elk? I initially wanted to suggest something like transforming IPs into generated IDs so the staff could know if multiple accounts have participated under the same IP without being able to view it, but have then decided that to be a too direct procedure all together.

I honestly do not see any security concerns being possible if a change of this level would take place, but it would be wise to announce the change just so the members would be aware. In the end, the club admins wouldn't have access to anything personal and the best they could do would be locate abuse of the system.

If you were referring to possible personal grudges upon a vote would be cast plus breaking of total anonymous votes, then I would have to say that sort of thinking probably being exaggerated. If members would be made aware of this change, plus only admins having the access power, as well as potentially this idea taking action as well, I see no harm possible.

But thank you for voicing this and both of you for the support.

Nah, more worried about PII (Personal Identifiable Information) that could possibly be exposed by something like this. Mainly because I work in Government and that's an issue there.

However, the best way to avoid a potential security risk when developing software is to be aware of it beforehand. That is why I voiced it, since there are many ways to mask PII so that it cannot be accessed or seen, you just need to be aware of it.

Being able to look into votes and by that be restricted to usernames could hardly help anyone identify or locate a user in real life. Even if we would be given access to IPs, we wouldn't be able to pinpoint a user and by any other means know how to contact them in real life. But it's way softer than that -- it's just usernames. In comparison to what access the admins and forum mods have behind the scenes, this is little to nothing.

However, this is your field so I'm probably missing something here. When forming this suggestion I wanted to make it as harmless and focused on the needed outcome only, but if there are any ideas how to make it even better, do share; anyone, not just elk.
