How do you go about making or having cosplay costumes made?

Have never cosplayed before but really want to start at cons I may go to in the future. It'd be really easy if there was a legit place to order/buy cosplay but I also like the idea of making it myself if it didn't seem so difficult at first glance. I mean really, for someone who's totally new to the world of cosplay how do I get started and go about either finding a place to get cosplay from or making it myself?

Looking to cosplay as Jin from Samurai Champloo (I've got sword, hair, and glasses covered, I have no idea what to do for kimono) and Illumi Zoldyck from Hunter x Hunter at some point while I still have the long hair for both lol.

I made an extremely detailed Mirrorman REFLEX costume in less than five hours out of cardboard.

My sewing skills are not the best so I have mine made. Quite pricey but if you give your seamstress the necessary tools, it'll me a little cheaper.

I can't share anything regarding self-made costumes but I know a bunch of sites you can get amazing cosplay costumes that are affordable, but the site is in Chinese.

95% of her costumes are cleavage, so I assume if you really want to make cheap costumes you should ask her.

I'm going as Zacharie from the game OFF for my first ever cosplay at a comic convention. *Yeah, I know, but I don't really have a comic character to go as*
The biggest concern is screwing up the 2 masks he has, as I an unsure how to best go about it. Ah hah hah.

I've never cosplayed neither but I think you just have to look for the design of the clothes you'd like to make, from manga/anime/character sheets, buy pieces of cloth/es that suits with the original clothing and sew them, or buy a piece of clothing similar to the one you'd like to cosplay and modify it. As for weapons, depending on the rules, you might have to stick with painted/laminated cardboard/styrofoam.

If you have a friend who can read, don't hesitate to ask him/er! That's how I ordered from Taobao x3

there's a lot of patterns for kimono online, ask friends, or even cosplayers and con groups on fb, they're all quite willing to help and offer advice
