Not only do they have identical MCs and plot, I did a OP comparison and they're almost mirrors of each in beat xD Check it out:

Need to say it's kinda similar
But just the opening. In my opinion, the plot it's really different.

Plot, nahhhh. This one is more of a comedy while AHR leans on drama + friendship + romance.
Characters, I guess so, so far? But no.

The concept of this show reminds me most of "Oreshura" (2013). In both cases,
you have a boy and a girl who are just pretending to be a couple and finding it
a challenge to keep up their lie.

Normally, I can't keep interested in Shoujo anime series beyond the first episode.
But I am definitely very interested to see Episode 2 for this one.

I read the manga and I don't think they are similiar. I think it's just Erika trying to fit into others resembled Futaba's situation a little other than that it's not similiar at all. And like someone said here Ookami Shoujo To Kuro Ouji has more comedy while Ao Haru Ride has Romance + Drama.

The characters are a tad different, especially the male leads, and Ao Haru Ride focuses on friendship too.

I definitely like this one more though. Kyoya best.

Well, they are both shoji and there are some certain similarities between them, but I wouldn't say they are very similar, or in any way identical. Ao Haru Ride has a very different plot, and for the matter, the first one has more depth than Ookami Shoujo to Kuro Ouji. I perceive the same type of feeling from the both of them, and the openings are quite similar (they give off the same aura).

I only find the art similar, or maybe the fact both lead females wanted to fit in. Futaba is much more likeable imo.

i think only similarity between 2 shows is the Main girl's friends....Art and characters looks completely different for me...Ao Haru Ride has much more drama and Ookami's artstyle doesnt feel like shoujo...

I think the male character reminds me of Usui Takumi from kaichou wa maid sama
And the female character reminds me of the femal protagonist in ao haru ride.

But yeah, this one focuses much more on comedy (which is a good thing).

This discussion thread motivated me to go back and pick up "Ao Haru Ride" from
where I dropped it a few months ago. I am not a huge Shoujo fan, so in the very
beginning I often have trouble getting pulled into a story.

My favorite character in "Ao Haru Ride" is the too-cute "Yūri Makita". But so far I
don't see anyone in "Ookami Shoujo" who is similar to Makita-san.

For the fans of Ao Haru Ride here, there is a live-action cinematic version coming
out in theatres in Japan on December 13, 2014. Here is the movie trailer (sorry,
no subtitles): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y1tE1rTP8OA

In the movie, Makita-san will be played by the too-cute Izumi Fujimoto (藤本泉),

Comparing these two series is a complete mistake and joke.

Only one thing that links these two series is that both are shoujo series from Betsuma magazine.

Yes, I agree, but Futaba abandoned her fake act and fake friends.
When Erika still pretending to be what she isn't and she still sinks into a lie.
