Hi! I've never read the Black Butler manga but I watched the first season and really liked it. I never watched the second season because lots of people told me it wasn't that great. I may watch it eventually...

But do I need to watch the second season to enjoy this one? I really liked Ciel and Sebastian so I want to watch this one if possible.

No, the second half of the first season to the end of the second season was anime original so you technically don't need to watch them since the third season continues where the Curry Contest Arc left off.

Not really. You might wanna just watch it and then dont focus too much on it. The second season was merely something that the mangaka as a side-story of sorts and it wasnt even in the manga. So the decision is all yours. Though if you didnt read the manga before you watch the second season then you might get confused . But if you watched the series that just ended which is Book Of Circus, you dont miss out anything really. The Book of Circus actually continued where the first second ended in the manga. So like I said..it doesnt spoil anything..so its all up to you.

No, actually never watch it. Pretend it doesn't even exist, it's horrendous.
It was made for fujoshi and their fantasies. Well either way its up to you, watch it if you want, it does start off where the 1st season anime original ending left off, try it if you are curious but you are better off without it.

No ..

Book of circus takes place between some episodes from Season 1.

So it isn't a problem to watch Book of Circus without watching S2.

I suppose this is a bit confusing to some people, but let me try to clear it up.

Season 1 diverged in the first episode, meaning it was not canon, The dude "Damian" who got burned in an oven was not evil, nor did he die, nor was his name even Damian, it was Clause. The second episode was actual suppose to be three because it is chapter 3-4 in the manga. Episode 3 is really chapter 2 in the manga. 4-6 followed the Jack the Ripper arc in the manga, with some alterations so it wasn't completely canon. 7-12 was filler. 13-15 followed the Curry arc with some alterations (also making it not completely canon.).

Alright, you following me so far? Here's were we come down to the wire. 16-24 and the Kuroshitsuji 2 are anime original. Anime original meaning that they only exist in the anime and are in no way canon.

Book of Circus takes up after episode 15 of season one completely ignoring the rest of season one and 2, and it too isn't completely canon (fillers, alterations, etc. At least it followed the manga closer than what the first season did which is good, and it is better than the first season.). But no, you do not need to watch Kuroshitsuji 2 to watch Book of Circus or Book of Murder (when it comes out).

I do though, strongly, advise that you read the manga from the first chapter up to the current chapter (which will be 97 once it comes out this month). You are missing out on all the true story, and canon, via watching the anime (thanks to it's fillers and alterations,). You don't have to, but all of us manga readers strongly advise it because the manga is the true and glorious story.

Anyway, I do hope this clears up the confusion for all of you.

I actually quite liked season 2 but I recommend that people don't watch it until book of circus and the rest of the anime series' are published bcus it's quite frustrating to have season 2 in the back of my mind while watching other episodes and pretending that season 2 didnt happen. Season 2's end is like an ending to the whole thing and it's v v annoying (more annoying than spoilers tbh) so leave it till everything else is finished. However, if u wanna know what happened to ciel after the last episode of season 1 u could watch it. JUST PREPARE URSELVES. I have warned ye.
