Is it just me (possibly from playing games all day every day at 60 fps) or is this choppy as hell?

Like it looks sick as fuck, and the art is great, but it seems really choppy and such.

Like a game thats running really slowly.

Maybe I'm just seeing things, genuinely asking if anyone else sees it this way.

The first episode was like that for me, yes. I don't know if I got used to it or it got better, but I stopped noticing it after that.

Parts of it are, but not all of it. Any of the action sequences are rendered at 24, the SoL moments tend not to get the same treatment.

I've only watched the first 2 episodes but just like Kalypze, I felt it was kinda choppy during some scenes in the 1st episode, there were action scenes in the 2nd episode also but I did not feel distracted by anything like in the previous episode.

Yep, felt exactly the same. The stuttering during the first episodes was painful to watch :S.

Fortunately , it got a lot better in later episodes. No entirely perfect as far as I've watched so far but definitely not nearly as irritating as during the beginning.

Ocarina of Time runs at 20 fps, and 16 fps on the pal version. I never had any problems with it (greatest game of all time), and I don't have any problems with Sidonia at 24.

You know what I mean by that. Pretty much any time they aren't fighting Gauna.

Sidonia drops as low as 8-12 at several points. When it's actually 24 fps, it looks fine.

Thats good to hear. Its less noticable in the action scenes but when people are just moving and talking its clear as day.

This is basically a deal breaker for me and I liked the manga. The animation is just terrible.

Why do companies insist on using 3d CG? It almost never looks good.

The animation in this show is amazing.

I think you have animation confused with art style.

Also, I can link some pictures from the manga that show Sydonia looks even worse in the manga.

This show being 3d did it a massive favor.

What do you think the future holds?

If Aldnoah is successful enough i assume anime will go it's route.

Aka everything 3DCGI except the characters.

I can kind of accept mechs looking jerky when they move more than i can when a human does it.

Mech anime have been using it for some time now for fights and while it never looks as good as the alternative, it is sadly accepted.

I imagine the only reason they do it is cost savings, because it certainly isn't for higher quality.

No, i don't think i have.

When there are severe problems with how characters move, that to me is animation problems, not art style. I'm fine with the art style.

Most manga has art problems at times so I am more used to it and somewhat accept it if the story is interesting. What i do not accept is anime with exceptionally low quality animation. It is too hard to really get in to it.

The manga looks a lot worse.

And if you say this has low quality animation, you clearly havent finished it.

Go watch the show and come back.

To me it seemed as if they tried to emulate traditional limited animation with CG. I got used to it later though my only complaint is the expressions seemed weird (especially the eyebrows when someone is angry), like they rigged the models with not enough detail. Overall I think this is really good series, looking forward to the second season.
