@AngelsArcanum if you wrote all of that while the series is escaping you, I really wouldn't want to see you tear it a new one while you do have all of your memories intact. Honestly, from your description it sounds terrible, much so I kinda want to check it out now. The one thing I can already give you points for is the large Rider cast, that was already a thing in the Geats x Revice movie.And that double post ? Don't mind that, we finally have some club activities. |

Also, sorry for double posting, but yeah there’s a pretty overstuffed and undercooked cast, they try to turn a gagillion people into Riders as it goes on, but then some characters who you think WOULD become Riders don’t get to be ones, Ikki is a pretty limp protagonist and he even starts contradicting himself later on (what he initially believes is a character trait he’s proud of in being a nosy busybody turns into something he’s self-conscious about suddenly?), Vice is kind of all over the place, starting out REALLY annoying, then the story tries to overcompensate for that by pushing him a bit too far out of the way and then trying to basically retcon all his very suspicious behaviour earlier as something more sympathetic and well-intentioned, but doesn’t feel organic, and then he’s kinda up and down, but just generally not great. Most of the series is escaping me atm but yeah, did not have a good time with it, and apologies for the double post. |

@Punkbeetle Geats X Revice I think was maybe the one bit of Revice content that did the family dynamic stuff kind of okay, the rest of it is not great at that, you’re better off watching Ultraman R/B for that kind of angle, it’s a lot better. The series itself is awkwardly paced, uncertain of its tone, constantly undermines its best character (Hiromi), and it generally has a lot of dubious & inconsistent morals & ideas. It will spend dozens of episodes telling you not to trust in organizations over people and how they can sometimes have shady intentions, and then tells you a really mysterious, shady organization created in response to another shady group are “the good guys”. Daiji’s character arc is pretty bad and he’s a really grating character, betraying his own development towards the end of the series literally the episode AFTER he unlearns his bad habits (having faith and not kowtowing to villains), the big bad is defeated pretty unceremoniously with like another several episodes that still follow it with a pretty contrived coda conflict that tries to ramp up the consequences in a really awkward way, and there’s even like an anti-vax bit at one point lol. Imo it’s the worst Rider entry since Kiva. I think Kiva is maybe a bit worse narratively, but Revice is worse ethically I’d say. |

@AngelsArcanum I watched the Geats x Revice movie and I quite liked the family dynamic of the Revice team. So what exactly was do bad about it that make you say the less said the better. The only thing I thought that it might be a bit too Sentai like. |

So I started watching again. Kamen Rider Geats is shaping up to be really interesting. Kamen Rider Zi-O first episode was interesting.However, my most interesting viewing was that of Shin Kamen Rider (1992) its was kinda cool to see toku without the 1000s of cgi inserted into everything. The Movie though did had some narrative problems. Good watch though considering everything. |

@PunkbeetleThere were a few Ultra series recently that are subtitled 'New Generation Tiga' (Trigger) and 'New Generation Dyna' (Decker) respectively, and I haven't seen them myself yet, but opinions I see from people about them, especially Trigger, are pretty low. I've heard there's no downright *bad* Ultra entries according to most, but that people weren't very fond of Trigger and didn't find much to write home about with Decker either. Blazar, which followed them but is NOT the New Generation Gaia equivalent, had a lot of initial buzz for how it was going to be a more grounded and serious production after the increasingly gimmicky past few entries have been, but I've also heard nearly nothing about Blazar since it started airing, don't think it actually wow'ed people that much. |

Yeah things have been pretty inactive here for many a year sadly, guess it's an uphill battle talking about toku on an anime site, and feels like the big 3 have had some rough patches lately (imo) besides Sentai intermittently it seems. The last Rider series I *really* liked production order-wise was Ex-Aid. Black Sun and Zero-One were alright, but the latter was kind of just a wonkier Ex-Aid. Saber I have a personal fondness for, and Trio of Deep Sin was genuinely great (along with Super Hero Senki) but yeah even that was a bit of a turbulent series. Geats was meh, Gotchard is doing little to leave an impression, and the less said about Revice, the better. Donbrothers I thought was a pretty solid return to form for Inoue but with some weird patches, need to check out Kiramager soon. Ultra...uhh...I've mostly been skipping the "New Generation" reimaginings, and it seems like the initial buzz for Blazar went away pretty quick, but who knows. At least Garo is coming back, Versus Road was great, and happy to get more Ryugaverse content, just hoping Jinga returns to resolve that whole story, even if it might be trickier for Masahiro as the head of AIC now or whatever. |

01 is pretty hype so far, I liked Ex-Aid a fair bit (was the first KR I watched & finished) so I'm hoping 01 is even better. Just no non-permadeath shenanigans, keep the arcs from getting a bit stale and provide a good final villain who gets fleshed out better, then we're good. Ex-Aid I'd put 7th on my rankings for Heisei, only one I've yet to see is Zi-O now.Not sure how active this club is still, but would it be worth to make a thread for 01? |
