Days of Future Past is pretty good, besides that, they're all mediocre at best. It isn't even much of a character study, the film doesn't go deeper than the surface. Everyone wants to think it's something more because it's "different."

Midgardsorm | Apr 11, 2017 2:45 AM
I stopped caring about the X-Men movies when "First Class" came out. "Deadpool" was an exception since it wasn't such a big property.

doriando | Apr 8, 2017 3:58 AM
Strongly disagree. I think Logan is a great character study and a perfect sendoff to a character that I've loved since childhood. Probably the best performances from Hugh Jackman and Patrick Stewart in this franchise, and Dafne Keen put up an outstanding child performance. All of the action is intense, extremely well choreographed, and brutal. Definitely the best superhero film after The Dark Knight, imo.

thekgproject | Apr 5, 2017 1:21 PM
So far, Logan is highly overrated. Not everyone has had a chance to weigh in yet, but as it stands, this movie is not what everyone is claiming it to be.
For an X-Men movie, yes it's good. But not the best, not even in the top 4. Logan relies on you bringing some baggage in from the previous films, which is fine, I've seen them all. Even with the knowledge of all the other films in the series, it still stumbles to bring any emotion or life to these characters. The basic story arc is fine but don't examine anything too closely or it appears more flawed than you think. The villain is average, at best. Having a second wolverine should've been way more interesting. But the biggest crime is the ending when the movie thinks it's going to crush you with this huge emotional punch, but completely falls flat because of it's set up and character interactions.
Overall Logan is a watchable X-Men movie but nothing more.
"Just because a comic book flick takes the dirt road less traveled doesn't mean it's a cinematic work of art."

Logan was pretty much what I expected. It was a more earthy & somber story, and it definitely intended to go beyond the typical superhero fanbase.
I didn't think it was depressing, just going with the current style of post-apocalyptic movies.

LuckyAlix | Mar 18, 2017 12:11 AM
Hey guys! :-)
What are your thoughts about "Logan"? The movie is a quite depressing Western-like theme and if I may add... predictable. On the other hand it seems like it was made to target a wide audience and not only the comic book fans. At least that's what I understood from the numerous heart-wrecking moments.
As far as the actors are concerned, if I count the "rumor" about Jackman not returning to the role in the future, we can say that he said goodbye in a very dignified manner.

@Squirtroll I just watched it twice and caught a lot more. But if you don't know much about religion or the symbolism then yeah it's a good idea to google some stuff and rewatch.
Oh god, The Accountant was so bad haha. But, different strokes for different folks.

@Midgardsorm have you seen The Red Turtle? It's dialogueless but still fascinating

Midgardsorm | Mar 4, 2017 1:31 AM
I'm currently going through an "animated movie period" and I have watched a couple recently. If someone still hasn't seen "Book of Life" (not a lot of people have) I recommend checking it out - it's great!

karambia | Mar 1, 2017 11:26 PM
@Squirtroll

I'm sure (for now) was hirokazu koreeda's After the Storm
, a heartwarming family drama and 2nd place was for The Wailing.

Tbh till now I'm not quiet sure what heck happen in the wailing (ending) even after read some interpretation in the net, but that's kind of stuff make me really enjoyed it, to be made certain confusing
Also I'm not expect it came from Na Hong-jin(the chaser, yellow sea) which usually just make me jaded with shaky cam in his movies. I can understand if some audiences have perspective that kind of flick is devastating and could throw buzzword like pretentious something like that

Unfortunately I'm not yet watch the accountant, i heard some ppl praised it was fun crime thriller something like that

Squirtroll | Mar 1, 2017 10:42 PM
The Wailing was a lil confusing. I had to google for some explanation. I read that the director said that it's open to different interpretations 🤦

The Accountant was my favorite movie of 2016. I like those kind of movies 😮

@karambia What's your favorite 2016 movie?

thekgproject | Mar 1, 2017 9:03 PM
@Midgardsorm It's on Netflix, watch it as soon as you can. Don't let the runtime deter you, it flies by. I also want to see The Handmaiden, it made a lot of top 10 lists last year

Midgardsorm | Mar 1, 2017 7:33 PM
@thekgproject
Haven't watched it yet - though I intend to. As far as new Korean movies are concerned, I also REALLY wanna watch "Asura - The City of Madness" and "The Age of Shadows".

karambia | Mar 1, 2017 7:26 PM
The wailing was also one of my favorite too from last
year :)

Just watched recently:
Christine: stellar's performance from rebecca hall. Nocturnal animal : one of unique gem from 2016, disturbing and unsettling, great cast.
doctor strange: caught my interest accidentally bcoz I heard it have pink floyd's song interstellar overdrive in it. In the end I (really) enjoyed spectacles been offered, got lovely cast, but the plot and characters feel written poorly.

@truisms
Oh yeah I just realized isabelle hupert nominated for that. I'm not into verhoven too, but like u said it sound differ from his previous or something like that, I'll see if I got moment for it.

thekgproject | Mar 1, 2017 11:57 AM
The Wailing was my favorite film of 2016

Aria-da-Capo | Feb 27, 2017 3:40 AM
I'm glad that La La Land won Best Picture. Erm, sorry, I meant Moonlight.

truisms | Feb 24, 2017 8:34 AM
@karambia
i've heard mixed opinions in this club but it was probably my favorite movie this year other than moonlight. isabelle huppert is very very good, it has a lot of humorous elements, but it cuts a lot more deeply than any verhoeven i'd seen before(not generally a fan of him)

karambia | Feb 23, 2017 6:54 PM
Recently seen Hacksaw Ridge, another fine one. Will be the last queue from best pic nominee, not have plan to catch the rest of other. To watch Nocturnal Animals and Christine next before the end february.

@truisms
I put Paterson in Queue for march, or april. Interesting, already heard Elle before(verhoeven's movie) but not caught my interest at that moment, is it really good?

Midgardsorm | Feb 20, 2017 10:44 PM
I went to see "Silence" on Friday. It's fine - nothing special but okay.

Apart from that, recently I've been watching basically nothing but crime and noir films taking place in 40's and 50's America. I just love that vibe :D

truisms | Feb 18, 2017 1:20 PM
@karambia
i liked paterson definitely. would give moonlight an edge but paterson was nice
would have liked to see elle included on best foreign picture but eh

karambia | Feb 18, 2017 7:59 AM
Just watched moonlight, feel it as fine movie at least. I plan to watch hacksaw ridge next. not feel interest or urge with other rest of nominee, so Probably 'll leave them, even la la land too I feel :/ . got more interest now for other 2016 released, Paterson and Christine.
