@AlabastreAizoThis year, I watched a bunch of horror films. Kurosawa's Cure was my favorite of the bunch. Strong sense of menace in that one. I thought I'd get something closer to Se7en but I came out of it thinking it really was a horror film wearing suspense clothing. |

In a book you can have a lot of inner dialogue and narration but in a TV series you usually want that expressed through dialogue. So they might have elevated a couple of lesser characters to have more prominence since that way you can have plot exposition through dialogue. I know of the series but haven't read or watched it, so this is a guess going off what you said. That made me think of this anime movie I watched not long ago, Ashita Sekai ga Owaru toshitemo, which was pretty shit. About 25 minutes into the movie, it cuts away from the characters and has a length narration along with CGI info-graphics explaining what the fuck is going on. It was all stuff that should have been delivered as dialogue by the characters. Sure, an info-dump from the characters isn't *great* but it's a darn sight better than suddenly introducing a narrator from out of nowhere and having an entire segment of floating infographics explaining the backstory **directly to the audience**, which is almost a pure sin in movie making if you can avoid it. this movie was all about people from a parallel world coming to Earth. It's the type where there's an alternate version of everyone from the other world. After the initial stuff where the hero meets some alternate-version people, it suddenly kicks into the narration / info-graphics bit which explains the cosmology and *why* there are alternate worlds. It was extremely heavy-handed too, almost spoilers for parts of the movie. As to why they put that in there, I can only guess that they already made the movie, the test audiences complained that they just *couldn't work out what the fuck is going on* so they realized they needed more exposition. But the dialogue was already recorded so they realized they needed an intro-narration. But THEN, they realized putting that right at the start would spoiler too much of the opening scenes, so they stuck it about 1/4 through the movie ... it's as if you were watching Terminator but they realized they didn't have the actors explain what the fuck is going on, so 30 minutes into Terminator it suddenly jolts into a Powerpoint presentation with a voice over explaining the Terminator universe directly to the audience. |

Doing a drive-by hot take in a club you're not part of is a normal thing to do. My hot take is that manga is way better than anime because the diversity of genres, themes, and styles present in anime is paltry in comparison. Manga Uber-Elitists rise up! |

I see. The account seems very experimental given it only made 2 reviews but Seeing Cipher 10/10 proves it's a legit Uber account. I might be wrong on the 2 reviews because MAL has a habit of pruning works in the past. |
