@illivinni no u :(

I think I've heard Woolie Madden talk about Nujabes. I've only seen three episodes of SamCham. Anyone is welcome to start a thread. Susumu Hirasawa, I saw Millennium Actress once a decade ago and more recently saw Paprika and listened to the soundtrack, that's all I've heard so far.

https://www.crunchyroll.com/anime-news/2019/06/20-1/castle-of-cagliostro-to-air-with-live-soundtrack-performance
It's been 40 years since the debut of Lupin the 3rd: The Castle of Cagliostro, and 55 years since Lupin composer Yuji Ohno kicked off his career. What better way to celebrate than with a two-part concert? This October, fans will be treated to an anniversary screening of Cagliostro with a twist: the film's entire score will be performed live by the You & Explosion Band, led by Ohno himself. (...) Once the film is over, Ohno will lead the band in some of his most popular compositions from the series, set to footage from across the years. A secret special guest is also due to appear.

When I saw the article title, I thought it meant there'd be a live remote stream to theaters showing both the orchestra and the film, which... I don't know whether that sounds like a good idea or not - I think I'd rather just watch a concert if it were a remote stream. But it seems like that's not happening, and it's exclusively the live in-person show in Japan as you'd expect.

Yeah, I have a soft spot for 80's OSTs. The songs are so melodic and the chorus has some nice energy behind it.

nDroae | Apr 26, 2019 4:36 AM
@Boltz That's a nice smooth 80s song :) I (long overdue) started watching Maison Ikkoku, that first ED is rather magical.

Someone finally uploaded the full Tokimeki Tonight OST a few days ago. I love this song by Yu Mizushima: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L5_f5ROBD3I . For some reason it reminds me of summer and all the lovely 80's rom-coms ^_^ .

That film is looking fantastic, and it has a very solid staff all around. now we only need Yoko Kanno to return

Coincidentally, those were the two shows I was most looking forward to before the season started. (And they do not disappoint.) I'm used to the best (or alleged best) soundtracks being in shows I'm not even watching.

Everything about Kotobuki makes me think of the video game Crimson Skies, including the music; of course that's only due to having the same influences. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2eAUcZn79HI

It's February and Shiro Hamaguchi's Kotobuki and Yoshiaki Fujisawa's Endro~! have easily cemented themselves as the best orchestral scores of this Winter season it seems.

In Fujisawa's case it's also quite a departure from his usual style. Endro~!'s score is full of lush Golden Age orchestrations and melodies, playful piano passages, some celtic influences and even soprano vocals (for a CGDCT show!). I hope it gets a bit more serious at the end, but I'm extremely please. The series is also made with a lot of love and deserves a watch I'd say.

Shiro Hamaguchi has also written one of his best works this season, more mature and dramatic than the good fun Girls und Panzer (if anything, it's like a mix of GuP and his superb and unreleased score for The Princess and the Pilot), channeling Elmer Bernstein and Morricone at times (and the sound directing/music placement is fantastic as well). The show is again well made and good fun, specially if you like somewhat realistic aerial dogfighting.

There are more decent scores this season, but these two alone already make it a good one to start the year.

Exciting to have Yugo Kanno composing another Jojo song - he composed Great Days, which is one of my favorite anime OPs, as well as the score from Stardust Crusaders onward. I've seen some prefer the score to parts 1 and 2, but Stardust Crusaders became one of my top played anime soundtracks. "The Return of Travelers," so glorious. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RZuJ_ffyZ_I

p.s. Legit hyped to check out _NTx's connections of anime music to its classical inspirations when I have more time :D

I have to see it though, because I liked the first Devilman OVA so much (haven't seen the second), and I'm curious about how it turned out. :D I don't know if "Yuasa-likeness" is a positive thing to me, based on Tatami Galaxy and Mind Game.

That... seems like a show I would watch XD

BrainPowerdKino | Dec 29, 2018 12:29 PM
Kemonozume is better than Devilman Crybaby (which I consider to be his weakest work, and the least "Yuasa-like" of them all), just saying ;)

Here's a random Toshihiko Sahashi piece from what it seems one of the shittiest shows ever, but it's a fully fleshed romantic symphonic movement! The final statement of the theme at the end on the trumpets is so good.

nDroae | Dec 27, 2018 5:05 PM
Oh hey, it's a clip of Go Sakabe's new Sweet ARMS OP for Date A Live III: https://www.animenewsnetwork.com/news/2018-12-27/date-a-live-iii-anime-promo-video-previews-opening-theme/.141365

And of course there's dialog over my favorite part (starting around one minute in). :D

nDroae | Dec 27, 2018 4:38 PM
Ah, great surprise coming home to find new members have joined, welcome! :) I just took over the group earlier this year, potentially the creator might come back like this, would be awkward

Yeah... the vague impression I have is that Ping Pong is somewhat like the Burnt Field arc of 3-gatsu no Lion, I loved that. Probably going to watch Devilman first though. :D

loyalheart05 | Dec 27, 2018 2:44 PM
Thank you for letting me join.

Pyschoneurosis | Dec 27, 2018 2:35 PM
Besides some stylistic similarities Tatami Galaxy and Ping Pong are pretty different, so you'll probably like it. I loved Tatami Galaxy years ago, but I do not know what my reaction would be today.

Mikochondria | Dec 27, 2018 3:13 AM
That Ping Pong scene is great ❤

I like Ping Pong a lot more than Tatami Galaxy (even though I really like it, I also don't like it as much as most people).

nDroae | Dec 26, 2018 5:21 PM
Oh wow, I didn't know the 2018 Sailor Moon concert album was already out, gotta get that! (Search term 美少女戦士セーラームーン)

I haven't got to Ping Pong because I didn't like Tatami Galaxy anywhere near as much as most people, so I guess I'll see that later :)
