@Gonzo
I would consider myself a feminist, but I have no idea what you would consider to be 'radical'.

@Lithic
I have no idea what to do for a career yet; for now my plans are doing the courses I think are interesting. After that I'll most likely do a major of some sorts, and my back-up is doing a education major after that which will allow me to teach philosophy at high-school level.

As for my thoughts on Darker than Black... I'm pretty torn. For the most part it's just action/thriller, nothing philosophical about that. But there are some aspects which at the very least try to delve deeper. Overall though, I'm leaning towards a '...naaaaaaah'.

GonzoLewd | Sep 5, 2014 4:08 PM
@Lithic I don't really know. I didn't remember much about that show after watching it. Probably why I didn't care for it from first impressions.

GonzoLewd | Sep 5, 2014 4:07 PM
@Lazhward You're not like some radical feminist, are you? Since you're into gender studies, a lot of people I met who are into that are of that caliber.

Lithic | Sep 5, 2014 4:03 PM
@Lazhward, Awashima: I also think my logic class is very interesting. Difficult, but interesting nonetheless. And thanks for explaining why you chose Gender Studies. What are your plans for a career?

And also guys, we got a request from Jasteraz to add Darker Than Black to the anime relations list. Thoughts?

Lazhward | Sep 4, 2014 4:51 AM
@Lithic
Well, just my personal interests really; don't have any elaborate reasons for it. The concept of identity is very interesting to me; and gender, sexuality, and all the problems that come with it seems like an interesting extension on that subject.

Awashima | Sep 4, 2014 12:35 AM
But regardless of how difficult it is, it is quite an interesting class in my opinion. Though some times it depends on how well your professor presents the subject to you. Though it can never beat my interest in my ethics classes.

Lithic | Sep 3, 2014 11:43 PM
@Awashima: That makes me completely terrified of what I might be experiencing later into the semester. Of course it doesn't help that my professor loves spinning our brains around and around by answering the class' questions with his own questions...

@Lazhward: Gender Studies seems like an interesting choice for a minor. What made you pick it?

@Gonzo: I'm very curious as well as to what Philosophy of the Mind has to offer. Whenever the class starts, let us know how it's going for you.

@PleiadesRising: I haven't taken that many philosophy classes yet, but it seems like you've taken quite a handful already. What are you taking for classes philosophy wise?

PleiadesRising | Sep 3, 2014 10:51 PM
I remember banging my head against my logic books when I first came across it. I had no choice to learn the stuff if I wanted to understand early Analytic philosophy. However, from there, the philosophy of mathematics looked really interesting to me, and once again I had to dive in a bit deeper (and the more immersed you get, the crazier it gets).

I always liked the philosophy of mind. It's a lot of fun, especially when it gets to the disputes between the likes of Searle, Dennett, Chomsky, and Ryle. Good times!

GonzoLewd | Sep 3, 2014 12:26 PM
Taking 19th Century Philosophy and Philosophy of Mind this semester, should be fun!

Lazhward | Sep 3, 2014 12:18 PM
Right now I'm watching the FaceIt CS:GO league, classes start the day after tomorrow for me. I'm curious about my minor in Gender Studies, but otherwise just your everyday philosophy this year.
I only had basic logic, which was really easy; but I have no desire to advance on that =P

Awashima | Sep 3, 2014 11:39 AM
LithicAnarchy, I took 2 logic classes last year and it was ridiculously difficult. Especially without a pre-existing experience in mathematics like set theory. Dealing with the incompleteness proofs and and godel numbering. Otherwise I'm still on summer holiday. Classes don't start until October 1st.

Lithic | Sep 3, 2014 11:11 AM
I'm about to head off to one of my classes, but I wanted to pop in and ask you guys how you're doing. It's been a while since I came in and checked to see how things have been going.

So far this semester has been incredibly busy, and I'm only in my third week! I'm taking a Logic class this semester that is proving to be both challenging and interesting.

What are you guys up to?

GonzoLewd | Aug 17, 2014 12:40 AM
I've decided to make the Philosophical Debate Quotes a monthly thing, since there is a limited source of quotes that are worthy of dicussion. Next up is Heiddeger!

With NGE, Freudian themes and concepts are quite prevalent, but he's partly in debt to Nietzsche. And I think the ideas I briefly referred to are used in NGE with reference to Shinji's character and personality - how he just suffers from the world itself.

Okay, now I'm temped to watch NGE again, since it's been years since I last saw it. I wonder to what extent my thoughts on it would change?

GonzoLewd | Aug 9, 2014 11:58 PM
Considering how there's a lot of existentialist themes present in NGE, it wouldn't cross my mind that Nietzsche would be plastered all over it.

PleiadesRising | Aug 9, 2014 11:42 PM
Okay, so I'm reading The Anti-Christ by Nietzsche (again), and I maybe have detected something that I didn't notice the first time I read it. There are some passages in there which slightly reminded me of Shinji Ikari from NGE, specifically what Nietzsche has to say about "the psychology of the redeemer" (starting roughly at AC 29 onwards).

I'm aware that Anno was familiar Nietzsche (I think I even caught a Nietzsche reference in Kare Kano, of all anime!), but exactly how far this leads me to any useful ideas remains to be seen. Still, I think it's worth thinking about...

I wasn't sure where Glasslip was going either, but after watching the 2nd ep it's gotten a tad clearer. This might be one of those series that takes a bit to come together, I think. But it does look pretty (as does Hanayamata, another one I'm watching).

Anyone watching Zankyou no Terror?

TheEventHorizon | Jul 12, 2014 4:08 AM
Oh, nice job finding that! And here I was thinking the first episode was, story wise, a little bit all over the place. :P The art is pretty beautiful though!

GonzoLewd | Jul 7, 2014 11:44 PM
References Galore!

PleiadesRising | Jul 7, 2014 10:58 PM
Okay, with the new summer season underway, and I've spotted one possible philosophical reference from Glasslip: a chicken named Husserl. Considering a character was reading Camus, I'll assume it indeed was a reference to Edmund Husserl, the phenomenologist.
