Easily my favorite anime on this list. Pacing isn't always perfect, but the characters and richness of the world more than make up for it. And it really makes me laugh. I love this show. On hold till the next big arc is finished.

Akame ga Kill!
Maybe I'm coming off too many long form shonen battle-anime, but I quite enjoyed the pacing here. It's concise and over the top in a good way. I enjoyed the setting. The characters won't win any awards for originality, but nevertheless I liked them all and they fit in well here.

Needlessly long and convoluted story, with characters I didn't care about.

Koro-sensei's closeted freak traits cracked me up. Had some charming humor and a good amount of heart. Last few eps were a touch lacking, but it's gotta wrap up somehow.

Bakuman.
I like stories about people practicing a craft at a high level, and this was pretty exceptional. Good characters and the shonen style "rival" plot elements kept it moving forward. All seasons are equally solid.

Decent enough characters and action. The plots were lackluster, however. Was bored a lot of the time. Probably won't bother with second season.

12 |
Boku dake ga Inai Machi
This completely fizzles out. It had a lot of potential through the first 6 eps. At that point it became predictable. The last few episodes are downright sloppy. Basically what it comes down to is a ton of good setup leading to a turd of a payoff.

Dragon Ball
The arcs sorta felt like they were made up as the author went along, but it's still good fun to watch. Packed full of creativity and humor and general badassery. You can see its DNA in a number of great shows. First round pick in the anime hall of fame.

Dragon Ball Z
Even though it's literally 10x slower than Dragon Ball, the story is less haphazard, and the characters are more realized. Setting is second to none. Masako Nozawa will always be the voice of Goku.

Nearly every aspect I previously liked (Umaru's slovenly otaku-ness, her relatable addiction to gaming, her relationship with her brother) takes a backseat here to her friend's group dynamics- and her friends are uniformly uninteresting and one-note.

Shingeki no Kyojin: The Final Season - Kanketsu-hen
Solid enough closure. A few things seemed a bit contrived. It's rare for me to love a finale in general though, it usually feels like they're checking plot wrap-up boxes rather than telling a meaningful story.

Normally I would have dropped this anime, but I kept on watching because my gf found it interesting. I did not. The characters were dull and the plot moved at a snail's pace.

Shinseiki Evangelion
Had a lot of interesting visuals and concepts, and a couple genuinely cool episodes, but ultimately failed for me as a story. Weird moments of almost 60's-esq camp, the LITERAL worst, most annoying character ever (Asuka), and unclear (frankly, unwritten) motivations behind the conspiratorial elements cost me a lot of enjoyment.

Shinseiki Evangelion Movie: Air/Magokoro wo, Kimi ni
Pretty much gave me exactly what I wanted from the end of the show, even some redemption for the god awful Asuka. Then it delved directly into its own asshole with a repetitive, seemingly endless barrage of indecipherable symbolism. I grew bored. They already did this at the end of the series. Less would have been more here.

Shokugeki no Souma
I've always enjoyed (real life) cooking competition shows, so this is right up my alley. Plot was a lot of fun, and the humor was on point. This is the first anime I've seen where the ecchi serves *some* sort of actual purpose in the story.

The motive for Central, and the reasons the Elite 10 support them were so flimsy and ill-conceived that I had to dock a couple of points here. Still good fun, but the writing did get a little bit lazy.

Steins;Gate
Well executed time travel. Great sci-fi with great characters. The VN is good, the anime is good. It's not afraid to use character "tropes," but it always manages to put a nice twist on the trope itself, making it fun and unique.

I'm a sucker for time travel/time loops. This was passable, though too reliant on a slew of fairly uninteresting plot devices (nearly one new "mechanic" per episode) instead of real storytelling. I found the characters to be generic. Overall, was still entertained.

Ano Hi Mita Hana no Namae wo Bokutachi wa Mada Shiranai.
Everyone is way too accepting of the fact that Jinta can see this ghost, even if they don't believe him. He never supplies any proof (in the first 5 eps) even though it's readily available, and no one ever asks the natural questions 100% of us would ask. I wrote a full review of this one (in reviews section) because it was so stupid.

Barakamon
If I had known the driving force of the plot was going to be the MC's relationship with an annoying little kid, I wouldn't have started it. Also calligraphy is not a particularly interesting vocation to watch, it turns out.

Beastars
Had some reasonably meaty characters, but it doesn't work as either an allegory to human civilization or as an interesting story in it's own right. Nothing was happening, and I didn't care about the love story.

Bleach
Lazy writing. Some ok fights. No one ever dies, which doesn't fit with the wounds taken in swordplay. Overall a lame anime. If eps 1-63 are (supposedly) the best of the series, there is no point in watching it any longer.

Danganronpa 3: The End of Kibougamine Gakuen - Zetsubou-hen

Jinrui wa Suitai Shimashita
There was no cohesive strand binding this mess together. Just an unfunny mishmash of recycled ideas and pastel colors. No plot, no characters, no conflict to drive the narrative. I think it's trying for Ghibli style "endearing," but it fails miserably.

Mirai Nikki (TV)
MC was a spineless beta male from the get-go, and every character subsequently added made the show just a little bit worse, a little bit more incoherent. By ep 10 it was nothing but off the rails cutsey anime bullshit and had to be dropped.

Naruto
I really like Naruto, its had a few great arcs so far. This score reflects only the eps I've seen, not the one's I've dropped. The reason I'm dropping it is because you'd have to be on crack to watch 85ish eps of filler in a row, when you can just start Shippuden after 135.

Re:Zero kara Hajimeru Isekai Seikatsu
Finally threw in the towel after watching the MC spend 6 eps straight crying and whining like a little bitch. Here's some well drafted dialogue: "No! No no no!! Why why why why?!" Every character was awful. Author has no clue how to write motive.

Sword Art Online II
Well, I sat through the Death Gun arc and its unsatisfying conclusion-- but I think I'm going to draw the line at a return to ALO where there's nothing on the line. I don't like the characters enough to just watch them play the game for funsies.
