Synopsis

Extra Stage - Act 1
The "Emperor"—a racing group consisting of several Mitsubishi Lancer EVO drivers—has defeated every racing team they have come across in Gunma Prefecture. Now, they set their eyes on conquering Mount Usui and the legendary Impact Blue racing duo, who hold the record for the Usui Pass. In her blue Nissan SilEighty, Mako Satou and her navigator Sayuki rise to the challenge to defend their title. However, Mako's recent woes begin to affect her concentration. Sensing that her rhythm is off, Sayuki helps her out, but will she be able to resolve it before the decisive race?

Extra Stage - Act 2
Sayuki thinks Mako's life could improve if she had a boyfriend and sets her up with her "perfect match"—Miyahara from the Myogi NightKids. Though the relationship starts smoothly, Mako's past relationship haunts her once more. Faced with the possibility of giving up street racing entirely, Mako will have to choose between love and her dream of being a professional racer.

Extra Stage is a branch off of what you're used to from Initial D. Instead of following Takumi we are following some of his allies and it's actually somewhat a breath of fresh air. I do find it to be a decent OVA in terms of breaking the series up a little.
Basically Extra Stage is a little break on the intense action, with some faster pacing and a still decent and enjoyable story.
Nothing crazy, nothing to awe at. But something to kick back and relax to!
Also the Lan - Evo arc in Stage Two was probably my least favorite, however there is a return of ...

I never write reviews so this is not gonna be some professional review, I'm just genuinely disappointed.

I've watched Initial D first & second stage so far and what I liked so much about it, is that the fanservice wasn't noticable at all and that the female characters actually had a personality. This OVA however, just left all of that in the dust.

Fanservice is almost everywhere and I can usually tolerate it pretty well, but I was quite upset with this one. There was no need for fanservice and nudity in the first & second stage, so why add it now? It didn't add anything ...

Although the races itself are good, I do not understand why these exist. If I wanted to see fast cars go around, I would tune into a F1 race or a drifting competition on YouTube. But Initial D's main point is story leading up to the races. It gives the tension and purpose of the race. Nothing here to be seen. Just fast cars.

Music: I did like the music. It was good.

The animation: A lot of CG still so its okay but it shows its age.

Why you should watch it: Its an okay watch if you like cars other than that its meh.
