Yume de Aetara

'If I See You in My Dreams' or Yume de Aetara is an OVA I was enticed to watch thanks to its key visual, which I saw somewhere.

It's about how this loser, Fuguno Masuo, finds himself attracted to and develops a relationship with this beauty, Shiozaki Nagisa. It establishes how the OTP meet, have some conflicts, and have a happy ending in a span of 90 minutes.

This love story has nothing to write home about. At the very least, it's well structured.

It's decent enough to watch, but it's not something I would go out of my way to recommend. It's annoying that Masuo is ... what you call a typical male self-insert nowadays. Nagisa, in contrast, has a good character design. Even more insulting is that his rival has a good character design. Masuo doesn't stand out, but Nagisa does. It acts more as a beta male fantasy.

The art style is okay and somewhat more decent compared to so many so-so shows today, but it's not something I will give high praise. It leaves you frustrated that even a crappy show like this has decent drawing. I like how old series like this draw their crowds compared to what is seen of late.

That said, I love how a teary Nagisa is drawn in Episode 2 due to the lighting effect. I believe this is the OVA's highlight.

I will shortly watch the TV version of this, which some say is inferior to this OVA. I checked bits of it. I find it funny that I could barely find any fanservice in this OVA, yet the TV series has risque fanservice.


NOTA BENE: A grade of 4 out of 10 means I got some enjoyment out of this anime, but the issues are glaring, or simply I rank it higher than my 3's but below my 5's.

My enjoyment spectrum lies from 4 to 10. If I have scored an anime below 4, I actively dislike it.
