These anime remind me of the days where it wasn't all fan service and trope after trope. Where the characters have real depth and the story wasn't one layer.

50 different series from 50 different years. While most of these are my favorites from year to year, I have included some I thought should get a bit more of a spotlight on. It actually took me a lot longer to put this list together than I thought it would, some years had a lot of good picks and it was hard to pick out either a favorite or one that should be highlighted.

Note there are a few years I have not seen a show from (a few years from the 70s) so I will add some from my PTW or that were impactful.

These pieces have a harmony, uniqueness or just an x-factor to their overall aesthetic presence, to include music/sound design.

This is not to be confused with animation though. While the two intersect, if something is interesting only for its animation quality, hopefully it's not here.

Feel free to message me if you think I should check something out that could be here. And if you disagree or think there is a better representative of something, let's talk.

A fictional world which feels alive and its circumstances are properly explained. Details about the citizens, the cities, the food, the monsters. Everything has a background and a meaning in its existence. The 'rules' and regulations and even the social status of the world are thoroughly explained. A world where you can immerse yourself in.

Some animes that I consider serious and with a final message.

I don't recommend them because they are necessarily good or bad, but because they show us another way of thinking about what we had watched and can impact our lives in some way. And I also believe that some of the realistic animes from this list can help us to see how we are leading our lives.

Organized by the Japan Anime Festival Executive Committee, their members being the editors-in-chief of five major anime magazines, which were Animedia, The Anime, My Anime, Monthly OUT, and Animeck (Animage did not participate, as they had own Anime Awards). The main choices were decided by industry insiders and artistic creators (people like Osamu Tezuka), with the Fan Awards being self-explanatory.

The results of the first installment were announced in the January 1984 issue, continuing until the seventh edition, that was released in April 1990. In 1989, the award was canceled on due to a series of problems, among them the death of Osamu Tezuka and the crisis that affected the Japanese publishing market at the time. The Best Picture Awards were not given in the 3rd and 4th editions, no idea as to why.

In conjuntion with the official award by the Reader's choice, the magazine's editors made public their own choices for many years, until 2014.

In that period, the editors disagreed most of the time with readers, with 15 editions having a different choice, 2 editions having a reader's choice winner of a edition, winning in a diferent edition (1980 (1st Half) and 2000/2001), and 2 editions that had a tie, so there was two winners in said years (1982/1983 and 1997/1998).

One of the oldest anime magazines in Japan, being devoted to animation and comics aimed at a general public and not for professionals, with the first issue being released in May 1978. The Anime Grand Prix started in 1979, with the first prize being announced at the issue of 1980 January. The results for most of the awards are made public in either May or June issues.

The choices are made by popular voting, using ballot postcards from the official magazine volumes (not by online voting), so it's the most popular anime for the magazine's reader base at the time.

This list will have all winners of the "Anime of the Year Award", plus the runner-ups that got less than a 50 votes difference to the winner, and the winners of the "Best One of All Time", that ran from 1980 {2nd Half} up to 1999 (there is no info for the quantity of votes). This will be updated every new award publication. Updated with the winner of 2022/2023.

Shows from different genres, all featuring a female protagonist and/or a mostly female cast doing their thing.

My focus is variety as well as shining a light on shows that have felt overshadowed in recent years. The more mainstream and most highly praised shows are at the forefront, with some more obscure picks towards the end.

Most of the shows featured are TV and some are movies, I do not discriminate by format. Also not all of these might be for everyone, but I hope at least one thing here will be worth your time.

Hi everybody! I have prepared a good list for beginners. The ranking is mixed. First ten anime is most legendary anime. I think everyone should watch it. Don't worry it's not my favorite 10.
Then I included the movies. Most miyazaki movies anyway.
The rest are mixed. Watch in the order you want.
Enjoy!

I'd only say there are a couple here where it is a spoiler to know, so they will be at the end of the list. Let me know if you think I should change the stack to have a spoiler warning. But I don't think it's necessary.

Either way, these are various PA works that I think are interesting, some overall good while others lean more into their environment than anything else.

These are films that may appeal to an otaku with an ENFJ or INFJ-type personality.

Not including films. The seasons added are subjectively the best to me. These are not in order.

Anime that focuses on the importance of the natural world on its own terms and/or the ramifications of negligent human interactions with the world.

Now let me preface, the title is a bit reductionist, we shouldn't feel obligated to label what something is or isn't. Rather, the media below at the very least has an idea in it that is tangental to eco-politics whereas other works or more directly critiquing a specific topic (say wars effect on the environment).

Either way all of these works have something in them that might add to your perspective of the subject.

Also feel free to message me if you wanna talk or recommend me something. I'm always down to learn/hear a new perspective.
