Not saying it's a bad thing, but sometimes you don't want to sit through 10 episodes of just training.

Part Three of the retro sensation that is gripping the nation! For better or worse these are the anime worth your time from days gone by.

Part One: https://myanimelist.net/stacks/30488
Part Two: https://myanimelist.net/stacks/30490
Part Four: https://myanimelist.net/stacks/30811

Note: Moderators had taken down the stacks before, since it was not wholly information based. I will post this as a note as to why such series are essential in order to defend them all as a blanket statement.

Most of the series featured have some sort of significance in terms of first best or darkest for their era which can be categorized by decennium or part of a decennium (early, middle, late). These are mixed around in order in order to give those who subscribed to list a challenge. While I could give an individual breakdown, I think some research is better left up to those who have subscribed to the stacks, since this allows for additional cultural insight into what was popular in Japan at the time, which is sometimes disconnected from the United States, as well as the rest of North America and Europe in many ways. For example, the Crayon Shin-Chan that aired in the United States and Canada is different to the one that aired in Europe, is different to the one that aired in Japan. By recommending to seek out Japanese versions of series, it grows understanding. I am not the first one to have thought of this. In the United States, there used to be a channel called ImaginAsian TV which had the same purpose of informing people about Japanese popular culture through anime. The San Francisco and San Diego PBS stations did the same thing and NHK World Japan carries this on through series like Little Charo and previously Maiko-san Chi no Makanai-san.

I think it is agreed upon that retro is a niche, but with handicaps on subject matter like availability.

Those series that had not one but TWO (or more!) anime adaptations!!

Disclaimer: I'm not sure that I know every anime that fits this criteria so I will add those that I already know about and add more as I see more of this (dm me or comment in my profile if you want me to add an specific item, stick to the rules down below tho). This will prolly need more parts due to the 50 items limit per list, any new part will be linked at the end of this description. This is not a recommendation list, there's some adaptations that I wouldn't recommend but they're included since it fits the topic of the list, as it's purpose is giving visibility to these type of cases.

Rules:
-Has to be at least 2 anime adaptations (regarding of length/episode number/format..) of the same original media (manga, novel, game, etc).
-Sequels don't count, so won't be added (you can search sequels for an adaptation on your own by clicking the name of the item to go to it's page). I do this to reduce the amount of items per list due to the 50 item limit per stack, in this way there's less parts needed for continue this 'project'.

Important. Influencial. Groundbreaking. Any anime which broke the mold of the medium is here. Whether I like them, or not. Trying to take as much as an objective outlook I can.
Criteria:
Before what is considered "New Gen"
Must have a big fanbase. Hence no cult classics like Death Parade or 91 Days.
I must have seen at least 10% of it.
If I feel that they impacted the industry or the audience.
Reviewing those I actually care about.

WSJ mangas that serialized from 1990 to 1999 that became animated.

Note: There are so many classics this decade! Slam Dunk, Yu Yu Hakusho, Rurouni Kenshin, Yu-Gi-Oh!, One Piece, Hunter x Hunter, Shaman King, Hikaru no Go, The Prince of Tennis, and Naruto! Truly, 90s is the best era of anime.

Many millennials or younger generations experience "anemoia", or a longing for the pre-internet world when VHS tapes were king, stereos emitted synthpop, and the warm sun caused the rippling seas to glisten. (This stack is written to support members in finding entries which share highly specific or niche interests: that is), 80s-90s anime that boast a retro "aesthetic" prowess — that feature an art style or color palette that evokes "vibes", "atmosphere", "ambiance", or nostalgia. These anime are chockfull of screenshottable frames or GIFs to suit all the lo-fi mixtapes, feely beats, Pinterest feeds, and ethereal longings of a bygone era.

This interest stack only covers stuff referenced in the WataMote anime, not the manga. There may be some instances when a video game or manga is referenced, and I put the anime adaption in here instead. That is why a few of the anime listed here are newer than the WataMote anime itself.

This is a list of anime referenced in the WataMote anime. The first anime added in is WataMote itself, in order to make sure this interest stack is shown on the WataMote anime page.

Message me if I am missing anything, and I will add it here.

All Media Guide.
In all the anime on the list, I recommend watching the Japanese version, as it does not have any type of censorship and cuts.

These are all exceptional, unique, and interesting to all fantasy anime watchers.

I included only my top 10 fantasy Isekai, since I already made an Isekai-only stack.

I highly recommend you watch all other seasons/movies from the series listed.

They are arranged in order from my personal favourites.

Extra notes:
* Yugioh season 0 is very underrated and is not just about the card game 'Duel Monsters'.
* Berserk movies are the best adaptation of the manga.
* Both old and new Hunter x Hunter are amazing, and each has a different style/tone.
* Claymore is a great dark fantasy show similar to Berserk.
