Seishun Buta Yarou wa Odekake Sister no Yume wo Minai

Sakuta Azusagawa's little sister, Kaede, is wrapping up middle school and needs to make an important decision. The school counselor believes it is in Kaede's best interest to attend an online high school, given her history of being a shut-in and her crippling phobia of traditional classrooms. However, Kaede wishes to enroll in Minegahara High School, just like her brother, as she desperately hopes for a typical high school experience. She pleads with Sakuta; his girlfriend, Mai Sakurajima; and Mai's half-sister, Nodoka Toyohama, to help her study for the entrance exam—and they enthusiastically agree. But her envisioned high school life does not unfold as planned. With her unresolved trauma coming to a head, Kaede grapples with the conflict of determining what sort of future path she truly wants to embark upon.

I've just watched Sister Venturing Out, and I recommend it, but probably only for Aobuta fans. It's clearly not a movie meant for people who aren't familiar with the past events of the series.

If I had to compare them, this movie isn’t as good as the last one (Dreaming Girl), because it strays from the usual arcs involving Puberty Syndrome. It’s heavily linked to Kaede’s arc from the first season and could be considered a direct continuation of those events. The main theme focuses on the issues Kaede faces now that her “old self” has returned, including her high school choice.

As a theme, I think ... it’s interesting enough, as it can make you think about education or reflect on some problems you might have had as a teenager. However, the movie felt a bit underwhelming, not much happens, and the events are somewhat predictable.

So why do I still recommend it ? Well, because it’s still an Aobuta movie. If you like the anime, there’s no reason not to watch it. You’ll still enjoy the cast of characters, the same type of jokes and interactions, and the sense of closure it brings. Likewise, the animation quality is on par with the first season.

All in all, I enjoyed this movie, and I think any fan of the series will have a good time watching it, but you should think of it more as a “2–3 episode arc” rather than a mind-blowing movie with major plot developments, otherwise you might end up disappointed.

Mixed Feelings

I loved the series when i was in 7th grade, now a few years later i understand it much better but

The movie itself wouldn't keep me interested not if for the characters that i knew, i started enjoying it in the second half of the film, nontheless its really good

Ofc the movie is mainly focused kn Kaede and her difficulties with choosing which highschool she wants to go to, and... nothing much else. ... If you are looking for more serious drama or much more pleasant there would be better series tho

It's just another subpar addition to the Seishun Buta Yarou Series.

There's barely any story, the movie is about Kaede deciding between correspondence school and Sakuta's school and that's it, not much occurs that could create any gripping tension. Even though this movie is only one hour long, it still feels way longer than it should be due to the lack of plot. Combined with the lack of substance, the anime still keeps the flaws of its predecessors. Cringeworthy interactions with Sakuta, especially with Mai, jokes that weren't funny for the first time being repeated after many times; scenes of the characters just doing daily normal ... stuff, which could work for a slice of life with good characters, which is not the case for this anime. And about the characters; it seems like they had to fill all the previous cast somehow even though they were completely irrelevant, so there are many random scenes with characters like Futaba and Tomoe that are pointless and dull.

The art style and animation are the same, mediocre and nothing to write home about. Even though it's a movie, there's no new song. Just like in the previous piece, they just use the old ending song and that's it. There's nothing memorable about the soundtrack.

It's hard to find something good to say about this movie, the only thing is that Kaede gets a lot of screen time. Even though this movie was focused on Kaede, who is the best character in this franchise, it wasn't able to present a compelling story, which is a waste of a good character. Her struggle with social anxiety makes for a promising setting, but it falls flat with the poor execution. This low-effort piece of media is not only bad but an offense to the honor of anime fans. It's unnaceptable to present an anime in this state and expect people to like it.
