Yamada-kun to Lv999 no Koi wo Suru

After her boyfriend breaks up with her for another girl, college student Akane Kinoshita wrestles with a broken heart and the memories he left behind. Loading up Forest of Savior, the MMO they used to play together, she forms a plan to get back at her ex-boyfriend through an in-person event for the game. In the process, she runs into someone unexpected: Akito Yamada, a gaming legend who just happens to be her guildmate.

Desperate for support, Akane ropes the asocial Yamada into helping with her scheme and lending her a shoulder to cry on. The differences between Akane and Yamada soon become apparent as they spend time together, yet they cannot help but notice each other's inner qualities. As the two gain more experience with one another in and out of the game, their tentative acquaintance may level up in a way neither expects.

I really enjoyed! 1000 % Recommend ! I liked everything story, animation, plot, characters...and that INTRO that was great. They selected best song they could. I liked personalities of main charakters. Yamada was cold at first but then he was really sweet. I admire his honesty. The girl, sorry forgot her name, had perfect persona. I have nothing I dislike about her. I cant understand her ex. How he could break up with her bucause of stupid random girl from game?! Nonsense. Well his BIGGEST mistake in his life. Fr. My fav scene was that where that nerd girl, forgot her name again, confessed her ... love to Yamada and he rejected her. I dont know why it is my favorite scene... But I dont want spoil too much. I'll summarize it. Overall:

Mixed Feelings

Romance anime...one of the most interesting and sometimes frustrating genres. Sometimes it produces some of the best waifus out there, other times the relationship dynamic is so outrageous and crazy that it simply makes zero sense. My Love Story With Yamada-Kun at Lv999 is not outlandish, but it's also not magical. It's a standard slice of life romance anime, but seems to fall flat.

The story revolves around Akane Kinoshita, a girl who just experienced a breakup and has no idea what went wrong and wonders how to move on. Through chance, she happens to run into Akita Yamada, and the story goes from there. There's ... really nothing too crazy that happens in this story. If you have seen any romance anime, you likely know how this goes. They meet, they talk to their friends about each other, have "dates" and so on. There's nothing inherently wrong with My Love Story with Yamada-Kun's plot. It's just...average. But that can sometimes work in an anime's favor...unfortunately this one didn't really land. The story feels a little sluggish, and it takes a while for anything to simply happen. The more interesting stuff ironically, revolved around Akane's relationship with her fellow guildmates. There's nothing wrong with Yamada's character either...it's just...flat for some reason.

Now the art style of My Love Story With Yamada-Kun is...interesting. I can't really describe what it looks like, but imagine any slice of life anime, turn down the saturation a touch, make the color palette dull, and you generally have an idea what the art style is like. It actually looks pretty, the problem here is the females. They look passable, but sometimes they feature more detailed lips that look...super odd and a bit uncanny. It's definitely personal bias leaking in though, but when they added that lip detail the characters became a lot less pretty. I feel if they stuck with a more standard art style, or leaned into the semi-chibi style for the in-game characters, it would have looked a lot better. But this is most likely personal tastes making me feel that way.

As I mentioned before, this series was sluggish which is a shame because the opening act was pretty decent. Having to deal with a breakup is extremely tough on your psychology, and having Yamada appear to distract Akane with his...interesting personality, was very fun to see. When Akane meets her fellow guildmates, and their quirks come out, it was fun to watch. However the pacing just...quickly falls apart and drags on. This is only amplified when a certain character is introduced out of nowhere and we spend about three episodes following that storyline.

It's hard for me to recommend My Love Story With Yamada-Kun. I felt it was going to be for me, however it just didn't land. If you like romance animes, I can see this one being enjoyable, especially if you binge it. I like Akane's quirkiness, the voice acting was good, and the side characters were fun. Even Yamada himself, despite not really doing too much, was fine. It's just the storyline and pacing really made it a slog to get through. I am glad I watched it, however, as it does refresh my palette and shows there is better stuff out there.

I understand I am hardly a target audience, but this is as bad as the anime industry today. It is so wrong on so many levels. It is not a deconstruction, which I would love. It is on garbage-shonen-level-bad, and I am a shojo stuff connoisseur. I would not slap 1/10 because I am not a TA, but I must, as I could not recommend that even for my weeb bimbo summer-child female friends, and I have some.

Probably this is strictly for Japanese consumption? Spatiality and graphemes are hinting hard. Plot/pace-wise, I was in doubt and checked out the manga - it looks like ... the staff do not understand how to seamlessly remediate the story. Anime is not a manga, wow. If Morimori-chan I can understand as a character, this title screams LOL DONT CARE )))))

One of the worst titles I ever saw, even kodomo stuff is more fun in your late 40s than... ok maybe I do scream on the clouds A BIT.

I rarely drop stuff, but this is my 2025 "enduring to the end" commitment. I would be better off playing MMOs, which I do not even play in the first place. And this prochild propaganda is too obvious, like, 5 years straight - too late for that huh
