Tensei shitara Slime Datta Ken Movie: Guren no Kizuna-hen

I’ve liked this series, even if my enjoyment of it has waned a bit over time. I think it’s well done isekai with a rather unique take on the premise and a direction that keeps this series feeling dynamic. Even if some plot elements fizzle with less than satisfying results, there’s enough going on that it still feels like it’s moving in a positive direction.

Then the series takes a step to the side and it loses me. I tried to watch Slime Diaries and I was just bored. It’s become one of the few series I’ve outright dropped with no plans of coming back to ... it. I know it’s a vibe and I’m probably an outlier when it comes to not liking it, but it’s not what I came to this series for and I find its cute facade off putting.

This movie is part of the main line series and it stands as a weak entry. It looks really good, and some of the tracking shots are incredible, but that's about it. The story is pretty vapid, with the central problem usually being one of lack of communication between people who really should trust each other, as well as Hiiro showing a degree of trust in someone that just feels entirely unearned. Most of the fights aren't very interesting, either - when you have a character as strong as Rimiru in the mix and there aren't other demon lords or dragon-level threats involved, there's not much tension in the fights. There are a couple of good ones, and there's a genuinely sweet dynamic between two of the new characters, but this movie just felt like a weak excuse to have everyone bust out secret techniques with no real meaning to the series proper. It's fine, but that's about it.

This movie is a stand alone story written by Fuse (the LN author) specially for 8bit. Nothing that happened in the movie will have any effect on the next season. I'm only starting with this because I wish that I had known that going in.

Let me preface this review by saying that tensura is my favorite anime of the last few years, so I had high expectations for this movie. Needless to say, it did not live up to them.

The plot in the latter half is so incredibly predictable (and tropey) that I think anyone with half a brain could predict exactly what's going to ... happen next, and most of the characters that are introduced are cookie cutter anime archetypes. Tensura has always had a somewhat predictable plot and archetypal characters, but this movie is on another level. If that were the only issue, then I would have rated this movie much higher, but the most disappointing part of this movie is the ending. It's really hard to talk about why the ending is bad without spoiling it, and I want to keep this as close to spoiler-free as possible, so please excuse the vague and metaphorical language. Fuse sacrificed the plot on the altar of a certain plot device (deus ex machina) in an attempt to score a very (poorly executed) Disney-esque emotional home run with the audience. However, if you really like that type of sickly sweet ending, then maybe you'll be able to overlook the poor execution.

The movie "Tensei shitara Slime Datta Ken Movie"is a pretty mid movie, i expected more from this movie, im not sure if i liked or not. First of all the story was kind of boring all over the movie, with a lot of dialogs and side stories, less action and less focus on the main story. Secondly the fact that no one dies made me a little unconfortable, for the simples fact that all of them die, even after the Great Sage (Daikenja) said that there was nothing to do about. As far as I watched still no deaths and this make me lose a ... little interesting for the anime, even i had got attached to the characters a lost or deaths in animes is crucial to get the equilibrium for the anime. The only thing i liked about this anime was at the start where we could see more of the story of hiro, also when they was in the mine, was really pretty visually. The rest was really mid. i expected more...

To keep this review short I have no complaints about the visuals or the audio. As far as the movie goes for an ongoing series I think it did a very good job of not pretending that anything overly dramatic was going to happen. It's a movie between seasons so you know the chances of any primary character being killed off is practically zero. But I think the movie leaned into that a lot and that's why I think it work better than several other anime films I watched over the years. So yeah if you enjoy the series it's based on you will probably ... enjoy this movie.

I rarely write reviews but... wow, I'm very disappointed. I feel like I just wasted 2 hours watching this movie, or rather cartoon for kids, because it was so poor. Hahhhh... please give me these 2 wasted hours back. That's all I can say honestly. It was just terrible. I love Tensei Shitara Slime Datta Ken series but this movie was extremely inferior. It wasn't interesting, it wasn't funny, it wasn't enjoyable. And since I'm sleepy I almost fell asleep watching it. And the music didn't fit in most scenes. 'Someone's dying? - Okay, let's put some circus music there'! Yeah, such a good choice... ... Such a 'good' choice to watch this movie. Such a 'good' choice to 'spend' 2 hours from your life. Absolutely disappointing.

This movie bucks the recent trend of popular anime having in canon movies. The likes of Kimetsu No Yaiba and Jujutsu Kaisen have cinematic releases that continue the story from the seasonal releases.

Before this spate of movies, it has been original stories for movies, something the Dragonball franchise is familiar with, given the multitude of releases through the years.

As an original story by the original author, it fits into the continuity of the anime series which has already multiple seasons and a spin-off, since that story continues to air and expects sequels.

However, the light novel series that has served as the source material of ... the franchise has already concluded and thus lessens the impact of this story on the overall narrative.

This story is canon, but anime only. As for the movie itself, it scratches an itch while waiting for the next Slime Isekai season. The animation looks marginally better than the seasonal anime, but ultimately this is just a side story.

Watching the English dub, my interest grew less and less as each minute elapsed. The story does not revolve around Rimuru which comes as a disappointment. A new character emerges, an ogre, but his character seems contrived and offers no value in one's interest.

The dialogues and voice acting are the real culprit of this atrocity. Cringey writing and translation make this film unbearable to watch. The writers squander their efforts from formulating a well cohesive story. The voice actors force their voice into painful utterances as though they have given up their craft in their artistry. Why still be an actor if you are regressing ... in your work?

Rimuru's voice actress has fallen. Why shriek your voice in each response like a small child? The character seems ill equipped in growing as a ruler of a nation. Whimsical in nature... His power should be unmatched, so why struggle fighting with weak villains? You should crush them with ease in no time. No real powerful players are included in this film, which further brings down the utility of this film.

*Sigh... Anyway, one of the most nonsensical tripe is Shion's cooking. From last season, her wish should have cured her cooking skills, yet her dishes still look grotesque. Why keep the joke? It's as if you are beating a dead horse. Find new jokes to play with.

Instead of a new season, we received this disastrous movie. Hopefully, they find their footing in better projects in the future.

Overall not a bad movie at all, but it's obvious it could've been better.

Like most of the main seasons of slime, the story is serviceable and the characters are fun and easy to root for, but the focus and timing of the plot are loose and the animation budget seems to have gone into the wrong places. The story seems confused at times, not clearly working towards characterization and plot but meandering and loitering. A large chunk of the plot sort of rips off the basics of DBZ Broly. Many scenes look very good with detailed backgrounds, but the final fights are not ... juiced up to match. A few of the final moves, like Rimuru's Beelzebub could've easily been drawn out for spectacle but the opportunity was missed. The new characters are memorable and fun and its too bad they can't show up in S3 more.

Moral of the movie. Never hesitate to ask your friends for help. But then again, this would have been just a 1 episode season 2.5 instead of a feature length movie.

The plot was contrived and artificial that the payoff ending fell flat instead of actually evoking some emotion. There is nothing to see here in terms of story which marred the good part of this movie, which is the animation. It felt like this movie was made for a quick cash grab. I expected it to be a great tide-over until next year's 3rd season but it made me rather ... lose appetite on the series as a whole.

The charm of slime isekai is its refreshing (refreshing that is if you haven't delved too deep into bad light novels) premise, great character designs, and just chill atmosphere. It's writing has always been bad, which might ruin the series for some, but given its general chill atmosphere it can be forgiven. At its best, slime isekai's writing is generic and ignorable. You watch it for its chill atmosphere and fun fights and interactions. Slime season 2's plot tried to take itself seriously so I didn't like that part of it.

So, give that's my background on the series, how is Scarlet Bond? The part ... that takes itself seriously hit a new low and is impossible to ignore. The new character designs aside for the brother ogre are all really bad. Most literally have no distinguishing characteristics and are literally just grey-brown generic not-humans. New Main Girl is just a generic 14 year old with green extenders on her side bangs. The fights suck. Voice acting randomly sucks. All emotional scenes are just suddenly there and just as suddenly gone with no build up or stakes or investment or anything. Every moment of tensions is just Rimuru sandbagging (that's kinda all of slime isekai tbf and most anime movies have a similar trope) and any loss gets taken back immediately (happened a lot in season 2).

tl;dr its weaknesses are magnified and its strengths don't exist.

That said I recommend because if you like slime isekai, obviously you gotta watch slime isekai season 2.5. You'll probably like it, because nobody who watches slime isekai seems to care about writing. But the action is really really bad. I don't think even the most dedicated fans can defend the fights here (again aside fights with the brother ogre). That trailer really showed off literally 100% of the good parts in this movie.

Story (6):
The story is okay, in my opinion before watching vision of coleus and season 3 so as not to miss much. But yeah the story is okay, there's nothing hype or really special. But I also like tempest working with the new kingdom. Because there's an important scene that might be in Vision of Coleus or Season 3. Here also the villain isn't that strong rimuru can also defeat him easily so yeah nothing much

Characters (7):
Here there are several new characters from the Kingdom of Kings. The protagonist is okay, but the villain is just a subordinate who wants to destroy this kingdom. but ... there is one villain whose scene is very lacking so I don't know that much. But the main villain of the underlings clearly shows his motto

Vision (8):
Visual is awesome and animation is okay. but because the role is small and ordinary so it's not too tremendous or goosebumps. But overall nice

Audio (8):
Sound effects are nice, voice actors are nice, sound effects are nice and the soundtrack is just okay

Even after excusing all the strange things from the main series presented as normal to the potential first-time viewer, you have a movie that drags on forever, has far too many characters, mind-numbing dialogue, diuretic pacing, terrible color grading, brainless audio balancing, a generic artstyle, and the same mediocre TV quality digital animation that you'd expect from any schlocky seasonal isekai, and not from a feature-length movie that people were expected to pay money to see in theaters.
 
Bottom line: This isn't fun to watch. It's not "so bad it's good". It's not a dumb but entertaining action flick. It's, at best, easy to fall ... asleep to, and at worst, an annoying reminder that there's an incredibly large audience of people who deliberately choose to dedicate a startling amount of their unpaid attention and time on this earth bankrolling thoughtless media that fails to be fun on even a superficial "keys jingling in your face" level such as this. Watching this movie is like watching paint dry. Low quality badly mixed paint.

One of the worst movies I've ever seen. The movie overall is at best mid, at worst complete crap. Movie is very boring to watch, the plot is shallow and the characters are forgettable.

There is no struggle or obstacles that our main character and his friends need to resolve, and even when presented with one, they are extremely mild and are treated like a pebble by a river bank. The characters suffer no consequences for their actions, everyone gets away scott-free so often that it makes me think why would there be any challenges to begin with?

If I wanted to see nursery rhym, I ... would have watched Cocomelon instead.
