100-man no Inochi no Ue ni Ore wa Tatteiru 2nd Season

After watching the first season of this anime I came in to the second season with low expectations since the first one was mediocre, after a couple episodes I started getting intrigued again by the story and it seemed to maybe have the potential for a massive boost in writing quality from the first season and then, just like the previous season, all my hopes for the show and it's potential were shattered by other factors such as the bland characters or bad animation. In the end "100-man no Inochi no Ue ni Ore wa Tatteiru 2nd Season" felt like an attempt to make a ... continuation to the anime with a really low budget and mid-way through they stopped caring and just did it for the sake of finishing what was started.

Plot: I already talked about the basis of the world building and plot the anime is based upon in my review for the first season of this anime so I won't be repeating myself here but in relation to the plot explored throughout the second season we get a total of 2 quests our cast completes in this season however from what I've researched the first half of the season(first quest) comes from the original material and the second part(second quest) is anime original. In my opinion the second half is definitely significantly worse than the first half. The plot this season explores had much more potential than the first season since that season was mainly focusing on introducing characters and showcasing the world and this season was actually diving deeper in the plot and introducing what looked like the main villains for this anime whereas in the first season the enemies were simply typical isekai monsters with no deep lore but just like the first season this started with good potential and wasn't able to build on it making a less than mediocre show.

Art: The animation on the first season of this anime was already pretty lackluster, however they've managed to somehow make it worse on this second season, there was no fluidity to the animation making most scenes feet static including the fighting scenes which was a big downgrade since on the first season although the animation was nothing special it at least had a bit of fluidity to the action parts and didn't feel like a powerpoint presentation.

Sound: The sound effects feel as clunky and weird as in the first season unfortunately. The opening song is a bit worst than the song for the first season and pretty skippable in my opinion, however the ending was actually really good and probably the best song of all the season and I will definitely be revisiting it in the future.

Characters: I'm assuming if you're reading this you've already watched the first season so you know that after each quest our main cast completes a new member is brought in, at the end of the first season we are introduced to the new character who is to join the party and throughout this season another member later joins. Torii the character added at the end of the first season is definitely the worst character in the entire show he is blonde and gets the spear warrior job and ironically is basically the spear hero from "Tate no Yuusha no Nariagari" in terms of personality. I don't want to talk in depth about the other member that later joins due to spoilers but I will just say she is my favorite character in the whole main cast and actually isn't useless like most of the members. I won't reiterate my thoughts on the characters in the main cast from season one since it's already in my season 1 review and they didn't get a decent development in order to be relevant to talk about them, but in short, this season suffers from the same issue than the first season in terms of characters where the side characters linked to the quests that we most likely won't see again and aren't relevant to the bigger picture are much more interesting than our bland main characters.

Overall: After the first season I didn't come into this second one with much expectations but somehow it still managed to be a bit disappointing since it felt like it had even more potential than the first one and ended up being a clear downgrade to this first season. As I said in my season 1 review the plot for the anime is actually really interesting, in this season the first quest was also intriguing (second quest not so much but we can't blame the author since it's an anime original arc), but sadly all the other aspects of the anime couldn't keep up to the plot making you constantly think it was a waste of a good isekai world. I want to give it more but unfortunately I can't go above 4/10 since it was a clearly below average even by isekai standards and even when only comparing to it's previous season. I personally wouldn't recommend it unless you either absolutely loved the first season or are a completionist that gets bugged by dropping a show mid-way through.

First thing please watch this show!! SEASON 2 is the biggest upgrade I've ever seen in anime ever!!!

I want to completely admit I have a fondness for isekai even the clearly lower ones because to me it's very easy watching and I get a lot of wish fulfillment out of them. I get to live vicariously through the bland main character going on adventures an enjoying harems. So I pretty much give every isekai a shot. I recognize Overlord and Tanya the evil to be the best. I wanted to say that for reference. So when I startes watched a Million Lives I wasn't expecting ... Overlord or Tanya the evil. I just wanted to watch an easy show.

And admittedly it seems that way in the beginning it seems like an easy show with a slight twist on what is isekai with the usual oh crap we can die it's a harem its an edgy protagonist and the first season is good and somewhat follows that formula. Don't get me wrong I love it but I can understand people saying it's just an isekai.

BUT SEASON 2 IS INSANE!! I don't know if they received new writers or they purposely pulled what I want to call the Hunter X Hunter bait and switch. When I say that I mean at first your like this show is bright and seemingly not dark but then it's like holy crap we have deaths here deaths there we have darkness hiding under the colorful imagery. And this isn't just for edgy sake like many other anime do. Don't get me wrong it's not Attack on Titan with deaths every episode. But the deaths and danger seem so real. It's been a while since I'm genuinely suspenseful of death.

(EXTREMELY MINOR SPOILER- the protagonist revive if they die so long as someone is still alive in there party) So you don't worry about the protagonist dying or injured it's the people around them that makes it suspenful. And you care for these character and if anything were to happen how that would affect the main party/protagonist.

Speaking on the non main cast every single person has a nice fleshed out personality and everyone helps. The main character will always be the focus but he is not the be all end all which I love. Other characters get to shine and love.

MY FAVORITE PART- I HONESTLY ALMOST CRIED. Season 2 has a character thats not even a main character and a scene with that character that literally made me teary eyed and so much bitter sweetness. It was so sad but so happy and beautiful. One of my favorite anime moments of all time. That is all I will say. WATCH IT!

Animation- I know you might see the animation and clearly it doesn't have a massive budget put please don't let that stop you from watching it. I'm begging you if you read all of this atleast get to season 2 episode 5. Trust this random ranting stranger begging you to give this anime a shot. I need more people talking about it and at least 6 more seasons.

Season one was a good 7 out of 10 show but season 2 is cracking up to be an amazing 8 or 9 out of 10 if they continue with these amazing stakes character and story. I am so desperate for the next episode right now.

And the sad part about this show is people may not get to experience how amazing season 2 is because season on is not as amazing.

Plot is LITERALLY half canon, half filler.

I highly recommend the first 6 episodes but the last 6 MUST be skipped.
The plot for the first half was very well done, probably around an 8/10, but I give the second half a 1/10. It really goes to show you the difference in writing capabilities between two people even when using the same characters. the first arc gave something for everyone to do and improve upon for themselves, the second arc frequently ignores most of the characters intelligence and on top of that have an AWFUL moral at ... the end that is simply, the main character shouldn't kill the villain...just let someone else kill them...


I very much still want and hope for a season 3, but as usual, beware of fillers. It really brought down this whole show.

Just to be short, the story itself is interesting where the mc try to level up to change class which allowed the heroes to get a new kind of job, where it will the most suitable job that will help them to achieve the quest (Also to prevent them from dying). The story is quite good but it seems like the transition between every episode in an arc is quite butchered/shortened, although some scenes is understandable by the narrator telling or mc grieving, but there are quite a lot of skip scenes that sometimes makes this anime confusing to watch, somehow it feels like the ... plot line is not smooth at all. Hence sometimes for me, i got confused do i get in the wrong episode or not. The character design and art is good, the voices is very suitable with the characters performance.

Alright, alright, alright! It is time for a spoiler free review!!! If it's your first time seeing something like this, then welcome and if you're the person who read atleast one of my other reviews, then you're even more welcome! :D This season has been really good and in this review, I will try to give some of my thoughts about it, story, characters, artstyle, the whole shazam! (of course without spoilers) And let's begin!

Let's start with the story. Well, in the previous season's review, I mentioned a thing that happens legitimately at the start of 2nd season and how much I didn't like the ... decision that the writer took, towards which I haven't forgotten. But if you're interested, you can read that review and you'll know. As for everything else in this season, it felt great. The pacing, the characters, the plot, everything was done really well. It's also the first time that I see the story being so good, that it almost makes the artstyle problems not matter at all, since you're constantly engaged in it and don't notice anything else. :D The first season was already good, but this one would beat it if not for that shitty move that I mentioned at the start. This season has so much going on, with character development, relations between them, plotwise also, you've got a grand mission, but the small ones are also super interesting, with a lot of things going on. It almost makes me question why didn't other studios take it and most importantly how is it so underrated, with a rating of 6.87 (at the moment of writing), it's absurd. But yeah, it's not very often that writers actually utilize everything they create, for example the worlds, time periods are being used perfectly, which makes it even more unique. I understand if someone looks at it with the first glance, thinking that it's just another isekai, but that's just the surface. Underneath this one has a completely different approach, making it actually feel like something you haven't seen anywhere else. The more you see, the more wider the world feels. Tremendously good job!

Now a little bit about the characters. There is definitely a chraracter development going on, but there could be more. Because some of the characters tend to act like kids, not caring about the world around them, which sometimes can get frustrating, because the weakest one of them all is who's doing most, if not, all of the work, while they just complain all the time. I understand, they are kids, and that's how kids act, but come on, when people die around you and you know they are real people, I think even a child would care more. Towards which I really liked the new addition to the group, because now the main character doesn't need to deal with it all by himself. But even though there are these problems, it's kinda good to see them suffer (the guys who complain) from time to time and it also creates a good dynamic storywise, making the main character feel more like realistic hero.

Artstyle has improved a tiny bit, no major ups or downs, but it's kinda sad for me to see an anime with such a good story have a little bit disappointing artstyle, since there are some pretty mediocre story anime out there with better animation than here. But I know they are trying their best, so I will keep holding my thumbs, in hope, that they make the next season even better. Also the opening song is a banger, good choice!

Overall, I think it's been a while, since I actually tried to do a relative detailed review. But how can you not, when you see that it's so much better than the ratings say it is. So in the end it's hard to choose, I don't want to give it a 9, but I also cannot give it a 10, so my final decision is a 9.5/10, people may hate me for it, since it's more than I gave for Horimiya (there were good reasons), but this is a HANDS DOWN hidden gem and it deserves it.

This anime was pretty good, the animation was just " okay ", they didn't do so much rush and the ost was pretty good. but yeah there a big problem, in the last arc they changed everything, rushed everything, they killed the best arc of the manga, they killed the characters itself with a bad story who didn't even exist in the manga, and they can't do anything about this, they destroyed the anime with this. I don't understand why, it was good but they decided to destroy the good work of 16 episodes with the last arc, sadly like a bunch of isekai, this ... one didn't got a good adaptation.

100-man no Inochi no Ue ni Ore wa Tatteiru 2nd Season was definitely a bit of a step down from the first which is a little disappointing, the pacing felt a little unrefined and the animation frankly wasn't the best. I did really enjoy the characters though and the new ones that were introduced fit in well with the rest of the cast.

The arcs in this season were a little strange I can't lie, it felt like for the most part a lot of stuff was forcibly explained and some strange conclusions were jumped to but I do think they were entertaining nevertheless. Each ... one did have a pretty cool setting and I liked how there was a link between them as well.

The animation this season really just wasn't that good, there were climactic scenes that were just slideshows and it was quite annoying, but the art remained pretty good throughout. I think the characters definitely carried this season because I do really like our main cast, and I'd also like to mention how episode 1 was by far the best of the season, my hopes were set high by that and unfortunately the rest didn't stay at that level.

Overall I think this is definitely worth checking out if you've seen season 1, the cast remain as good as they were in the first season and I think the story definitely developed quite a bit.

The second season of this show is above average in my opinion. It is not yet a great or even good show, it just got across the message it wanted to, and was a fine show. It falls in that infamous "mid" category. If the theme of the first season was discovering oneself, as he literally repeats "who am I?" in that season, then the theme of this season is rising from failure. I will now give my thoughts on each section of the show as well as a score for each. Please note that if I write spoilers I will put them between *'s. ...

First of all, the story. The story is actually good in my opinion. During this season, we get to learn more about the parallel world and how it relates to their original world. It feels like the world around them is getting more and more important to the story, and it also feels like their actions have a much clearer objective compared to season one. Like I said, the theme of this season is rising or rebounding from failure. *(spoiler) We see that when the Väikedaam regret their mistakes and swear to work harder, when the survivor's of Zagroth village literally have to fall to the city below in order to build a new peaceful life, as well as Yuusuke's journey throughout the story to rebound from what he considered a "mistake" in season one when he killed someone, as well as his struggles with that journey*. Honestly, its a pretty good continuation point from where we left off in season 1, and although the theme is not conveyed in a straightforward manner, it enhances the story a lot when you finally understand it. The story has seen a drastic improvement from season 1, and gets a 7/10 for me.

Second, the art. The art in this show is good. It is still nothing amazing or groundbreaking, but it is an improvement from season 1. It is generally smoother as well as more defined. It still has some rough edges, but it is generally easy on the eye and pretty well animated. 6/10 for me.

The soundtrack/music in the show was also fair. It was usually blended into the background, and no ost really stood out. The op and end songs were nothing special either. However, this time around when some ost's stood out, they generally stood out because it enhanced the scene. That did not happen often, but even the few times it did it was impressive. Again, its an improvement compared to season 1 in my opinion. 6/10 for the soundtracks/music.

Now for the characters. The characters in the show are bang average. We see visible improvements in Yuusuke from season 1 to season 2, then you see him change throughout the season. *As the theme of the show tells us, he is going through his own struggles as he comes to terms with himself over what he considered a mistake. He is slowly rebounding from his failure, as we see him go from depressed over his choice to slowly coming to terms with it when he says "I'm already tainted" and offers to do the party's dirty work, till at the end, Hakozaki stops him from killing the villain girl telling him basically he can still take back control of his life*. Other than Yuusuke, we see a development in Hakozaki's character, as well as are introduced to an actual level headed character in Glenda. The rest of the characters, including Torii, Tokitate, and even Iu show no personal growth. The relationship dynamic between the party members also changes as more people join, and we also see a minor relationship growth between Yuusuke and the party after Iu talks to him. My problem is that these characters generally don't seem to have come to terms with the fact that they will have to kill to survive, as well as watch others die from time to time. It feels like even though they finally realized they are in another real world, it hasn't sunk in that this world is different from the one they come from. As a result a lot of the times they hesitate in major decisions, which I think is ridiculous when we are 2 whole seasons in. Imagine still struggling against goblins 2 seasons in... Also, some characters like Tokitate are utterly useless. Like 0 contribution useless, and it gets very frustrating in serious scenes where there are things like lives at stake. Overall, I think that even though a lot of improvement happened, enough negatives also happened cancelling out at a bang average 5/10 for me.

To sum up, the second season is a marked improvement from the first season, and once you actually grasp what the season is trying to tell you will enjoy it a lot more. It has not suddenly become some great show, but it certainly isn't bad either.

Honestly really bad and predictable, the only thing missing to make it complete new gen trash is the title demon lord being thrown around.

but even without that, the show is mostly devoid of plot or anything interesting.

Being isekai'ed and either being/becoming overpowered or starting underpowered just isn't anything new nowadays and the creators of this anime really didn't add anything interesting.

I have had dungeons and dragons sessions with more content and less aggravating time wasting.

No the story wasn't unique, it was predictable and even though isekai is my guilty pleasure ... it sucked.
Art style was okay as long as you don't look closely or pause at any point.
Characters are trash, the mc is annoying but neither smart or strong.
The reactions were predictable from miles away and I don't think anyone with half a brain would like this anime.
