Basicly follows the same background story, but it much more developed. Since Studio Ponoc was founded by Studio Ghibli's former workers, the animation follows the same philosophy, also the same source of inspiration from many stories written for children by british authors about sorcery and other supernatural creatures. The only downside is that like all other movies from Ghibli, this one ends too.

Earwig and the Witch, and Little Witch Academia are stories about witches. Earwig and the Witch portrays witches brewing potions. Little Witch Academia portrays witches using wands and spells. While both anime have different stories, they feature a main character learning to become a witch. Both anime are driven by the personalities of the main character, but Little Witch Academia has a more engaging story compared to Earwig and the Witch.

Congratulations! You've reached the bottom of the barrel when it comes to anime about witches. Earwig and the Witch is likely dismissed for its 3DCGI animation, but its biggest is the storyline, which can be summarized as the main character wanting to learn from a witch who does not want to teach her. Tweeny Witches has even more problems from its animation (still shots when characters are talking, lack of character movements, etc), its storyline (underwhelming conclusion, lack of cohesion), and its characters (lack of character development). The series does have a promising premise and interesting art, but it has challenges that severely limits enjoyment.  read more
