MY EXPERIENCE WITH THE WHOLE GINTAMA FRANCHISE

I got to know about the anime called Gintama in the summer of 2020s and started watching it. From the beginning of the first season, I felt like I'll enjoy this anime so much and I did. The whole season one was full of comedy, a bit of action and started developing the dynamics and it handles that well. After season one, the second season, as well as the third season, was a bit different, there were more action sequences and the production was a lot better. Then came season four, a highly anticipated and much waited ... season and it pays off the worth of watching 300 episodes. After episode 300, Gintama was no more a gag comedy series, it became a shounen with a lot of serious moments which were not expected from Gintama, it completely blew me off. And I watched the Final movie today. Indeed, it was a masterpiece. Its message is everything that Gintama has built up to for 367 episodes, and it's a celebration of what makes it so special. Gintama is amazing because of how perfectly it depicts the beauty in finding connection, even after losing everything. The bonds we form with others can rework the old, and that we can continue to rebuild what we've lost. An incredibly powerful message is delivered in the most exceptional way possible. There's so much to this arc in how it illustrates this theme.
My thoughts on Gintama

Gintama made me laugh, Gintama made me cry. Gintama made me feel things that no other animanga has made me feel, and it's quite possibly the most impactful, powerful work I've ever consumed. Its message is something everyone can take from, and it is a series that everyone can relate to some degree. It took my heart damn near instantly, and to this day Gintama has never left my mind. It's a celebration of everything that makes life so great, and what makes human connection such a wonderful thing. Gintama is perfect. Gintama is a festivity of friendship, of finding a purpose and moving onwards. It's the best show I've ever watched, and the most impactful ever, I'm gonna miss it so much

Gintama is a journey that many people will never go on, but to those that have laughed, cried, laughed some more, and maybe puked a little bit, this movie will bring a satisfying conclusion that most series attempt but fall short.

Not much changes from the main series, but there's a noticeable bump in production value, which I think we can all appreciate. The sound, music, art, etc is top notch. The movie is paced well for maximum enjoyment, and it's faithful to the source material without being a shot for shot remake. Fans will probably understand what ... I mean by this straight away, and I can assure you it's everything you've been hoping for.

I've seen some reviews saying that Gintama betrayed the fanbase by ending with a serious shonen arc, and I can understand those views, I simply disagree with them. In reality, we all like to parody and make fun of the mundane or depressing facts of daily life, but this doesn't mean that we get to turn away from them completely. I guess I would argue that the endless satire of shonen anime and RPGs throughout the series wasn't a scathing criticism, but rather an homage based on love of pop culture in regards to how we can all find common ground by sharing it, but I'm rambling.



Conclusion: I don't recommend this movie to anyone who isn't a fan of the show, but that should be obvious. For the fans, here is what you've been wanting. Please enjoy.

You all remember when Shinpachi said these words in the prologue of Gintama, right? Those fun times when they all used to laugh, telling poop jokes, doing comedy schemes, and many more. But at this moment, the Yorozuya and the whole civilians fought for the sake of the world. And this movie is called, "One Piece!!" or rather, "Gintama the Final!"

Story: 9/10
The story continues at the end of the semi-final series when the remaining Tendoshou arrives at Earth to complete a mission; to revive Utsuro again and gain his immortal blood to gain immortality, while the 3 Jouin samurais, ... find a way to bring Shoyo back. The movie was filled with many action fights, as all the characters were saving the world from exploding. The comedy on the recap was amusing since it is the final movie of Gintama. The plot and execution were nice but they cut some contents. The ending was satisfying, as they bring back the vibe of the first episode of Gintama and the introduction of Yorozuya.

Art: 10/10
The animation was improved to the highest level. From the old looks of the characters in the first season of Gintama, the characters looked cool and amazing, as they matured a lot from the first series. Every detail from the looks and the fight scenes was improved a lot. The expressions and moments were memorable, even the scene when the Yorozuya held Shoyo while he destroyed himself from the explosion. I don't know if Gintoki's hair was light blue or silver because, in the movie, his hair was color silver.

Sound: 9/10
The sound was already superb and I don't have to say anything. I loved when the Gintama theme was played at the very final moments of Yorozuya. Wadachi by SpyAir was like the best farewell song for the series.

Characters and Enjoyment: 10/10
All the characters in Gintama were some of the best. These characters will be memorable, as they filled my time with many happy and saddest moments throughout the story. I'll miss their comedy schemes and the moments of MADAO (Hasegawa-san). Even the wackiest Elizabeth and cute Sadaharu moments, I will miss that too. There were so much things to miss but I'll make sure that those characters will be so memorable for me, as they accompanied me from the beginning, until the end. There were some things I learned from this show but the characters made the show rowdy than ever.

Do you think if Gintama is worth watching? As everybody said, if you invest yourself in this show and the characters, this will be very worth watching. This anime was worth my time and I'm glad I'm a part of the journey of Yorozuya and the Kabuki District. To be honest, I'll miss this series and truly Gintama is really the crowned king of the comedy genre. Yorozuya Forever!!

What a journey it has been. I remember when I was a kid, my friends would constantly talk about Gintama as the show that has a lot of funny scenes. Back then, I wasn't convinced if I would watch the show or not since I wasn't that into the shounen genre. That would ultimately change when I watched some clips on funny moments in the show. That would ultimately be me falling to the rabbit hole of Gintama, which would be one of the best anime that I have ever seen.

Every season of Gintama never ... failed to amaze me. I laughed, I cried, I got angry -- you name it. Gintama, to most people, would probably be 'that comedy anime', but the truth is, it is more than that. Gintama, in its essence, is a masterpiece (subjective). From start to finish, the anime really delivered. The movie itself really closed out neatly and I am very satisfied with the ending.

The movie really improved on the art, especially on how fluid the movements were. I was kind of shocked on how the animations felt different from the past seasons, but it's kind of a given since it was the last movie after all. The fight scenes were incredible and I was left with nothing but amazement by the end of the movie.

The music choice, in my opinion, really fit the movie. Wadachi served as a good ending song, both for the fans and for the series as it kind of describes our journey throughout the series.

I really loved the improvement of every character in Gintama, especially Takasugi. Throughout the series, he was portrayed as some kind of villain but I never grew to hate him despite of this. Katsura being Katsura is always nice to have. The characters kind of grow on you as the series progress and you get to feel a connection between you and the character.

As for enjoyment, hell if I had to rate the movie, I'd probably give it 11/10. I was never bored throughout the movie, and I think that goes for the series as well. There was never a dull moment. I loved every moment of the movie and I'd probably rewatch it whenever I have the time.

I'm glad to have watched Gintama and to be part of this journey. If you are browsing the top anime, looking for a great anime to watch and happen to stumble upon this, then this is the sign that you should probably watch it from start to finish. Trust me, you will not regret it and you will be entertained.

Goodbye Gintama, and thank you for everything, especially to Hideaki Sorachi (the author) and Sunrise (animation studio behind Gintama) for giving us such a wonderful series. I do hope we can meet again someday, but that's kind of ambitious. Until next time.

This review would be for the entire series of Gintama.I have finally finished watching gintama and all i can say that its the best. Also i don't see this movie as the end like there is a lot to cover ,it has so much more grounds and comedy can never have a end, likealways i hope they are again trolling us with the final and will come back asap in a year or two with more work, coz i want to see more of ginsan,shinpachi,kagura and the gang. Well if u are here that means u have already watched all, i just want to say ... its not the end, comeon let the final thing again be a troll and come back with a new season filled with every type of emotions like always.

I completely loved this movie. This is easily the best anime movie ive ever seen. The conclusion was amazing in normal gintama fashion, all the characters are very well done, the fights are amazing, the osts are great, and even the character moments and characters conclusions are insanely peak. As of now I do not see a single anime being as good as gintama it is truly one of a kind and no anime will ever be like it ever again. I have never watched an anime where I could be laughing hysterically one second and very sad the next. There is only one other ... mc ive seen as great as gintoki he just fits so well and is done to perfection, the cast is one of the best ever, the soundtrack is amazing, the arcs are so well done, the pacing is some of the best ive seen, the comedy is the best ever, and gintama has multiple top 5-10 animanga arcs of all time for me. gintoki and takasugi are one of the best dynamics in all of animanga. GINTAMA IS THE BEST ANIME OF ALL TIME, thank you.

This is the best thing I've ever watched as a whole anime fan. This is it, everything in one movie. What else is there to say? A complete-perfect movie to sum up an astonishing series that is Gintama. It really is rare for popular animes to pull off good endings but this one takes the cake up there in the anime greats. Perfect comedy, perfect action, and a perfect execution to summarize the series. The pacing is well done and the animation and visuals are god-tier. A 10/10 Masterpiece easily, I'm glad I watched Gintama! Nobody else but this series can make you laugh so ... hard then cry just minutes later. Sorachi's storytelling is PEAK. Farewell to you odd jobs. You will forever live in my heart and soul. Thank you sensei.

Gintama translates roughly to silver soul, and I can say my soul now has a touch of silver residing within it. This, like many before me, is a review of Gintama as a series, which I lovingly write here after finishing the final movie.

Except, I couldn't review this series if I tried to. There are plenty of people out there way smarter than me who have broken down this show in every way they can. So, I instead would like to offer up to you all what this show has done for me over the last year I've spent watching it.

Life sucks, and for ... a lot of us we watch anime, read books, and play games as a way of escaping. Gintama taught me how much smiling can shine a light in the darkness of my life. These last couple of years have been really tough on us all, but watching this show made me forget about all that. For 20 minutes at a time, I could go to my happy place and smile the pain of living away.

The thing that I never saw coming in this show was how attached I would become to the cast, which really helped make those "serious" moments throughout the show better. Let me speak directly to anyone reading this with the question, "should I watch this?" If you heard that the show gets good once it's serious, don't bother watching. 90% of the show is comedy, if you don't want to deal with that then don't watch. You need to set your expectations, be here for the comedy, and revel at the story that unfolds as the show gets more serious. Also, don't skip ahead through the show to serious arcs. They won't hit you the way that they're supposed to. Part of what makes this story so unique is how the comedy builds up the characters.

I don't like handing out the rating of 10/10 very often. I reserve that title for something that is both a personal favorite and something that helps me in my personal life. That being said, nothing is more worthy of both that title and your time than this show.

Gintama is one of Myanimelist's highest rated works to date. Through its multiple seasons, Gintama will have made us go through all emotions... sadness, anger, frustration.... But also joy, good mood, warmth... These 367 episodes will have been an inspiration, a lesson in life. What better way to conclude than to compress all these feelings that represented the soul of Gintama in this last film? I think today, after having seen the final film, that this ending has perfectly fulfilled its role... An ending that will forever remain as one of the most beautiful of all.

As far as the film is concerned, everything is ... perfect in my opinion...
Some might reproach the "comical" ending, but let's not forget that we are still in a parody anime.

The characters, the music, the art direction as well as the animation itself were all up to the task of this finale. We remain in the spirit of Gintama: parodic but at the same time touching and profound.
A life lesson, an experience that will have left its mark, comes to an end.

I can't believe Gintama is actually, truly over. Even when I finished the manga, I had this film to look forward to, and now it's all completed. It's such a bittersweet feeling to have seen this amazing series through to the end. I'm not gonna gush about Gintama itself, but I will say this series was an absolute honor to take part in. Let's get into the film and talk about how this incredible story came to an end.

So, in case it wasn't a given, the art is absolutely gorgeous for this final film. More than that, though, the animation and camera work were really ... well done, too. Whether it was the angle of the camera, the cuts between shots, or anything else, it felt like watching a live-action blockbuster film. I also want to point out the use of sound in this film because it was insanely good. Intense moments were either accompanied by intense music or dead silence, and that effect and contrast was so damn cool. It made every bit of emotion in the story stand out tenfold.

Speaking of emotion, let's talk about that because I was absolutely blown away. It wasn't as though I didn't know what would happen throughout the story, as I read the manga, but the delivery of it in the film was so powerful. The seiyuu did an amazing job, the sound design did its work, the animation and editing came together beautifully--I was astounded by how much emotion was exuded in the final product. I guess I shouldn't have been considering Gintama has always been the best in the business at delivering emotional stories, but hey. The pacing of emotional content is really difficult to pull off, and Gintama: The Final, not only pulled it off, but excelled in it.

As far as the rest of the film goes, I found it to be a good blend of Gintama-brand comedy and major story developments. You got the crackhead start, and the crackhead ending, with all the amazingly intense and emotional bits in the middle. It was such a feel-good film to watch because it felt like coming home to this story, coming home to these characters. It highlighted the importance of appreciating where you are and not forcing change. The end of Gintama really compiled all the wonderful things it has taught over the years with the things that made us all laugh and cry in equal measure.

I'm so glad to have finally gotten the opportunity to see the end of this story in an animated format because Gintama really does deserve all the attention and love in the world for how amazing and special it is within the Shounen genre. Every comedy episode, every arc, every major story piece meant something to this final film, and any fans of Gintama should be pleased with how it all comes to an end. Nothing is unsatisfying, nothing is not worth the time it takes to experience it. I'm not planning on leaving this story behind, but I've now closed the book on it to open it again down the line when I need a story to lift my spirits. Thank you, Gintama, for giving us everything and more.

Simply beautiful and satisfying.

There's a few anime out there that truly touches your soul. Be it as it may when I first started Gintama I was reluctant to continue this series, as I thought were only gags. I might not have enjoyed every single arc, because some of the jokes I did not see as funny or sometimes even falling out because it was uninteresting.

But, this series concludes with this final movie. I can't seem to think of another way it could have ended. This movie perfectly cemented the characters of Gintoki. That made me believe to be the best written main character in ... the shonen genre. It, somehow made me feel connected towards these characters. As if they were human.

Well, These 2-D characters are already human in our hearts if we could empathize with them. And that's what makes Gintama soo good. The way it can switch from comedy to seriousness is so unique. I think that there wouldn't be quite anything else like it. Gintama is truly far ahead of its time.

I am really glad that I was able to start this journey. And I hope that everyone enjoyed it as much as I did. Thank you Sorachi for creating this masterpiece. I hope that we will meet again, but Gintama will stay with me forever. YOROZUYAA FOREVER!!!

It was a great blend of drama and comedy as always. I would say that the parody scenes of a particular anime at the beginning was fucking epic and hilarious. Those madlads in the studio pulled it off. Anyways, it was a great conclusion to the anime. I am really happy I was able to see it in the theaters. For the manga readers who know the conclusion of the story, there are bonus scenes that don’t exist in the manga. You should check them out.

i love gintama when i was young, and now its ended on its final movie so ... sadd, so hard to find anime has comedy and action

I think the final gintama anime is very good in terms of story and comedy, the opening song is very good especially with the same band as the previous gintama series, I think the graphics of this anime are a bit on the level so it's good it's good but I think it's a bit lacking in gintama but that's it very good, moreover I am a person who really likes gintama from the eps 1 series until now, and this movie is a masterpiece. I'm also very sad that this is the last movie of Gintama and I'm also happy that Gintama is finally ... over but I'm very, very sad

I would say that this was a perfect closure to the series, despite the fake ending scams and stuff like that. This film had a solid mix of comedy, drama, and action and definitely had a lot of heart and soul put into it. It honestly felt like the pure essence of Gintama, so I would say this was an almost perfect film. One of my main complaints would be having some chars like Tsukuyo get some more time to shine instead of Otae, but considering the size of the cast I felt that no one really got left out who needed to be ... here. However, I would say that it is slightly worse than the second movie in terms of overall enjoyment. Still a solid 10 for me though

It was a crazy ride! I remember watching the earlier episodes on TV repeatedly because that’s the only season bought by the local network. I watched everything again recently and today’s the conclusion.

The Finale movie was just the perfect ending for me. It wasn’t too bizarre, the plot wasn’t too forced to create an ending. Though if I were to choose, I’d say the second movie was more thrilling because it was has a different storyline.

It was definitely worth watching and I wasn’t pissed off or frusrated with the outcome. It was like a great big good bye from a dear friend I’ll ... probably never see again. The memories will remain and the comedy will definitely pull back the falling tears.

To be honest, I wasn’t expecting much because I felt that it was going where it was headed. I was just eager to watch it because the show had a huge impact on me that I’d send it off. Overall, it was a great watch. Great enough that I wish, somehow, there will be more.

Art & Sound
I’d say the animation and character art weren’t that very impressive. While the entire series was not exactly the best in those fields, the art here was just kind of different than usual that I can’t help notice it at the beginning. Or maybe that’s just me missing the old art that I came to get used to.

Sound wise—the music was great! But idk about dear nostalgia, but I felt that it could’ve been better with some old legendary Gintama OP songs.

Ah! I’m wishing Shinsengumi Trio, Umebouzu and Kamui, and Madao had a few more scenes, mainly for action and comedic reliefs. But I guess that’s a movie constraint/disadvantage. There could have been more scenes if it was made into a season but I guess that didn’t work out.

Still it’s a wild watch! Definitely still one of my top fave series and something I will rewatch and rewatch again. Thanks, Sorachi-Sensei!!! 10/10

This is a review of the entire series not just "Gintama: The Final"

I only started to watch Gintama in November of 2021, While the series concluded in January of 2021. I haven't been a fan for a while but this series is seriously phenomenal.

STORY
Gintama doesn't really have a story since it is episodic, but there are arcs put within the series, most of them are very entertaining and funny. But the last 70 episodes I consider to be a story so I'll talk about them. The last 70 episodes are in my opinion, the best part of the series . Not going into ... spoliers but, I love the character interactions and the fights are the best series it can get pretty sad at some points as well. Overall I'd say 10/10 on the story.

ART
The art for the first 200ish episodes was pretty weak. I wouldn't say it was bad but the fluidity wasn't great. Not that big of a deal because the anime is about comedy not really art. But after 200 episodes the art gets very solid and everything looks great. The movies look phenomenal with all of the effects. Overall 7/10.

SOUND
The soundtrack itself is good. Not much to say about it, some pretty catchy tunes. But the openings and endings are peak. 90% of the openings and endings are bangers so that's definitely a plus. Overall 9/10

CHARACTERS
The cast of characters in Gintama is the best cast of characters in any anime period. My favorites gotta be, Gintoki, Tagusugi, Kagura, and Shinpachi. If I can remember all of the main cast/main supporting characters that means everyone is memorable. The cast compliments each other very well and all of the relationships make sense and all have some sort of backstory. Easily the best in shonen/comedy. Overall 10/10.

ENJOYMENT
My enjoyment of Gintama does fluctuate a lot during the show. Episodes 60-150 where pretty difficult to get through and I wasn't really into the comedy at first. I really only started to enjoy Gintama after the original series. But once I started liking this show I LOVED every moment, comedy was pretty funny and the fight scenes got even better for me. Overall 9/10.

OVERALL SCORE
10/10. This is my favorite anime of all time even if there are some things that aren't the best about the show.

Outstanding conclusion to an incredible show. Perfect balance of humour, character and story. This movie captured my emotions and at the same time filled me with laughter as I was watching it. The art was magnificent and contained the right colour/lighting.

However, I would have loved for this movie to be a little longer.

I would love to come across a series like Gintama in my lifetime if possible. Thank you Hideaki Sorachi for this masterpiece.


I recommend this anime more than any other. It's a slow start but you will love the journey you will experience per episode you watch.

This will mark my first review for an anime, and what a fitting first for a more than masterful end to a series which when I first heard of, I thought it was nothing but an over hyped parody anime with humour that only a child would find funny. I can thankfully say that I was completely wrong and in fact, this was one of the most enjoyable shows I’ve seen.

Story

The story was in my opinion the third best in gintama, only beaten by the shogun assassination and farewell shinsengumi. The recap was the best I’d seen in any anime or show without a doubt, ... and stayed true to the parody side of gintama.

Art

The art was without a doubt the best of all the show. I don’t think anyone good really disagree and still keep a valid point other than nostalgia or love for the older art. It was more than beautiful and I can say with confidence that it felt better in many areas than even the praised Demon slayer movie.

Writing

The writing was as good as any of the gintama seasons and in many areas better. It didn’t trail in areas unnecessarily and kept good pacing which didn’t make it feel tire some.

Characters

One of if not the best part of the movie was the characters. They are probably one of the best designed and written characters in anime and are the ones that I will remember the most.

Conclusion

Overall this movie and the series in general was a blast to say the least. Though it may not be my favourite, it is definitely the one that will likely stick to me the most especially with how re-watchable it is. There were a few episodes I skipped over the series and now that I’ve watched the “for now” finale, I can return to those episodes and enjoy what the series has left me. To anyone who is reading this and has not watched the series, I highly recommend it to you. Many may have trouble getting into it with its slower start, but come time those episodes will be some of the most enjoyment you can have with the series. It always stays true to what it is and doesn’t spew any ridiculous messages or symbolism that many other popular shounen or anime in general like to do. It is one of a kind and will always be a show that one can relax to, with the joy of the amazing characters brightening your day.
