Granblue Fantasy The Animation Season 2

To be honest it doesn’t matter if this gets a season 3. I probably wouldn’t watch it. I admit the music was awesome the OP and ending were amazing in both seasons and Katalina and the black knight seiyuu’s ❤️❤️❤️❤️ Other than that the crew of the Gran cypher are idiots. Pure and simple. They leave every single bad guy alive and every single time the same bad guy tries to kill them each episode and in the process kills countless innocent people, causes billions in damage to property and they just keep letting them get away with it. It’s like what kind of idiot ... can you be? No one can keep going like that. Hell. That captain did the unthinkable to Gran in the first episode (spoiler). I see why the rankings were so low for this. Vyrn, what was the point of his existence? You’d figure he’d have some hidden talent, blow fire, transform into a huge dragon do SOMETHING but nope. He eats apples and has a snarky attitude. I can’t believe I’m writing my first review. I’ve been on this website for probably 10 years and never written a single review. This one anime finally did me in lol. I can’t believe it.

Season 1 was a generic fantasy riddled with cheesy, cringy or pitifully stupid elements on all scales.

Season 2 threatened to be just more of the same with its filler episode start, but then suddenly got a much better arc from the second episode. It revealed some interesting background for one of the important characters, it had an interesting, understandable and relatable villain, the plot was suddenly not just completely generic monster of the week garbage but seemed well-planned at last.
It was still terrible on the finer details scale, the characters were still doing stupid and cheesy things, but at least on the plot level ... it impressed me and gave me hope that the show will go beyond mediocrity.

Unfortunately the other two arcs weren't as good as my raised hopes. They were better than season 1, gave some revelations about a few of the characters' pasts and hints of a better thought out overall plot, but their core conflicts reverted to something generic and disappointing.

In the end the said overall plot remained unclear and thus the season is mostly meaningless, maybe making a slight step of progress but still leading seemingly nowhere.

Given enough seasons the story might turn out to be a colossal load of crap even on the largest overall plot scale, or a grandiose feat of world-building, with many interesting and interwoven character stories. But even in the best-case scenario the seasons we had so far certainly did a piss-poor job of revealing it and would remain objectively bad, mediocre at best.
