A movie by Production I.G that very few people have heard of.
Mitsuami no Kamisama aka Pigtail.
We follow a young girl with pigtails (hence the name) who lives by herself on a farm in a dystopian future where the world has been heavily polluted. The only contact she get is from people wearing hazmat suits who giver her an inspection every week. As the story progresses we get to know more about this world and what is so important with this girl. All trough visuals and conversations between the girls furniture and tools (Yes you read that correctly).
The girl herself and every other human being have
lost their ability to speak or something, because even though their mouths are moving they don't say a word.
Anyway the story is quite interesting and a pretty unique approach to the slice of life genre. The downside is it's runtime, being only about 28 minutes. I think it had potential to be better if it had been longer and give more details about the world and the characters. [6/10]
Art and Animation:
The art is pretty unique, makes me think of something from an old children's book. Not very detailed but very pleasant to look at and adds a certain atmosphere to the movie. [7/10]
The animation was solid which I kinda expect from a movie.
Since the characters don't speak, their feelings are shown trough expressions and they did that really well. [7/10]
I wouldn't classify the pig-tailed girls objects as characters so their isn't a lot to talk about here.
It feels like the girl herself just exists to tell the story and nothing else. She has no personality or motivations of her own and just go on with her daily life. Like I said it's only 28 minutes long so I'm going to be a bit nice on this, but they could have given her some personality at least. [4/10]
Soundtrack is nice and atmospheric although it's not used very much.
The sound effect used throughout were realistic and helped make the world feel more real.
Voice acting (for the objects) was mediocre. It was just talking objects and nothing more, but I guess it didn't have to be more than that.
Also it comes apparent that they used like 3 or 4 voice actor to voice everything.
Even though the character was as interesting as my shoelace, I still enjoyed this movie. Which is mostly thanks to the atmosphere it creates. It was just nice to sit back and just enjoy it for what it was, even though it could have been better.
If people can enjoy trash shows then they can also enjoy this, which includes you. A nice watch where you can just sit back and relax for a bit (28 minutes).
