Tbh it's really hard to find any idol shows similar to "Gekidol" since this setting is really unique. But if you enjoy good music and a little bit more action than in normal CGDCT idol anime, you might consider "Idoly Pride". The plot and setting is definitely different, but both aren't tha "casual happy" idol anime we use to know. They really have a kinda dark side and not everything goes that smooth. The music in both are great, idol music are always there to brighten up your day. They are also from the same Winter 2021 season, so they aired at the same time. If you  read more

- Both have actors who sing - In A3!'s second season, the winter half has some supernatural aspect, Gekidol does too - Cute characters - Implied BL/GL - Wholesome characters - Good songs - Poor babies who have suffered in the past get comforted - Have debts on their theatres - Have rival companies with members which some of the main cast have ties to - Some drama (what did you expect, they're theatre kids ^^;;)

Both have similar meta commentary within their genre and feature world-ending events that the characters need to come to terms with to solve.

Post-apocalyptic teenage performers doing their best to bring cheer and art back to their downtrodden world, against all odds, is a good description of both series, yet they are also very different. AKB0048 is a reimagining of a real-world idol group, hundreds of years into the future, They're borderline magical-girl in terms of their abilities, and face threats of robots and space police. Genkidoll, though set in a destroyed future, is in a Japan that's already looking up. Their issues are largely real-world struggles of todays' idols but are no less serious, and are mixed in with other, darker, disasters.

If you somehow liked Prima Doll, you'll definitely get something out of Gekidol. As I see it, Prima Doll is just Gekidol with a higher production quality. Similarities: - "cute" robot lolis !!!!!!!!! (or dolls, as both titles imply) - some kind of "tragic" and "sad" backstory for each and every character - on-stage performances (singing / acting) - a hidden "dark"/"deep" side plot - "shocking" and "emotional" scenes - annoying voices Differences: - characters in Gekidol feel lifeless - there are no human main girls in Prima Doll - the girls run a café with occasional performances in Prima doll, while in Gekidol they only do performances from time to time, practicing the rest of the  read more

Both anime deal with different obstacles actors face. Gekidol focuses on the psicological aspects of the post apocalyptic reality, while Glass Mask (2005) deals with the inner metamorphosis people experience through the art of acting. Both anime share a few simmilarities between a few characters, whitch makes watching them as a "mother-doughter" relationship, but between anime, allthe more enjoyable.
