Divine Gate

So, I usually am a big fan of action anime. I don't care about plot or characters so much as there is decent fight scenes. This anime definitely has that, and it balances that with comedy as well. I know I sound like I'm about to give this anime a great review, despite me giving it a 3/10, but despite the action being good, despite there being tangible comedic relief, there comes a point where it is necessary to have good characters and plot. I was going to give it a 5, but I had to drop it because it got to a point ... where it became physically impossible to continue watching it. And I absolutely hate dropping anime.

There comes a point where it isn't just about bomb action scenes balanced with comedy, it's about good plot, good characters. The kind of shit that leaves you begging for more after an episode is over. And unfortunately to say, Divine Gate just doesn't do that for me, which is why I'm giving it a low score, despite its great action scenes and comedy.

The plot is convulsed, nothing makes sense. The characters are interesting; the potential is there for a great story, but the opportunity was missed. Perhaps because it's based off a game for cell phones idk, but the missed potential is definitely disappointing for sure, and that, if anything, is why this is getting a 5 out of 10.

I really tried to enjoy it; I did. Fuck I mean...the action is to die for, the characters have to die for potential--especially Arthur, but it just...didn't pan out.... It's just disappointing. I thought this anime would be like Scryed where the plot details are given less stress as opposed to the action scenes, but not so much that they don't leave the audience not begging for more after an episode, but nope. It's like they weren't even trying to make this good.

I mean really, how you gonna hire big name VAs like Akira Ishida and Kanae Itou for a half assed, half baked, sorry excuse for an anime like this?? It's just inexcusable. For anyone to even put this shit on national television is just inexcusable, and if I was looking for a writer for an anime, I would never hire the MF who wrote this crap.

Phew okay, so I hate it more than I thought I did LOL. Anywho, in its defense the art is A M A Z I N G. The coloring is PERFECTION <3 I mean visually this anime is honestly an orgasm as far as looking at the characters and their weapons, etc. But that's just not enough. God I wish it was enough. I mean Jesus I was rooting for this anime more than anyone because I'm the type of guy who always roots for the underdog. But fuck, they literally make it impossible for me to like any aspect of it, other than maybe the art. Even with the bomb ass art, everything else about the anime is so bad that it makes even that one thing that's actually remotely good about it irrelevant.

to be honest, the reason i watch this one back then because i was also playing the Mobile Version of Divine Gate, and since the game was JP, so i don't really understand with the story, the game version was enjoyable, the anime, well....... what can i say, pretty bad in my opinion, to be honest, i was just happy to see Yukari and Hikari ( also Midori ) get animated, but what the heck with the Aoto, i was laughing my ass of when he become hostile towards Akane, also, i don't really care about Ginji because i even didn't use him in game ... lol, not even interested in him in Anime, also i was overjoyed when Crowley make an appearance on the last episode, tho only for a moment............. anyway it's good enough if you don't have anything to watch, or just want to add it to your watch list, not really enjoyable ( even for me only want to see some specific chara's appearances like what i said above lol ), too bad the direction of the game took the wrong turn, and it closed.......... still regret it until now xD

In my opinion the real problem with this anime is the lack of plot, the lack of storyline. The explanation of how their things work and what the characters are doing is also not portraited well. Simply put the storyline is not interesting. The usage of CGI in some of the battle scenes also gave me bad impressions. Although the characters, the animation and the theme songs gave me very good impressions. There ware only a few characters i actually disliked. This anime has such potential of becoming soo good but the problem is the lack of events happening. Like literally there ware just ... a few fights and the mc reached the gate, he even decided not to go into it. Basically if the anime had a little bit longer story(like 50-100 episodes), then they reach the gate and for example the mc finally is happy and shit like this. This anime has great characters, great art style, great music and a bad plot.(IN MY OPINION)

I really have never found such an amazing anime in the past four years of watching daily. This show made me KEK harder than I've KEK'd in a long keking time. This review will be spoiler free.




Story: With an immediate sense of who the characters are at heart and their troubles in the past Divine Gate really gets you excited quickly. Any parts of the story that seem unclear are explained efficiently with the flashbacks in the episodes to come as the flashbacks are few in number and are highly informative. The story follows multiple characters and their own personal grief and what they have ... to do to rid themselves of the guilt that has swallowed them. This is all done with the help of the expert writers at the forefront of this anime.



Art: Words cannot describe the beauty that this shows art style has. The mixing of 2D and 3D make the fight scenes not only entertaining but interesting to watch and then re-watch later. I've never seen an art style capture the story within it so well.



Sound: The soundtrack of Divine Gate really made me hyped up during the battles that happen throughout. While I'm not much of a sound critic in particular I will say that the music during the battles was quite enjoyable. The opening is quite amazing I have downloaded it on to my phone and wish to play it on the piano.



Character: They're all great, every single one. I'm not a huge fan of Akane but having someone that you don't like as much really shows why the others shine so brightly KEK sorry Akane.



This was my first review and I hope it made you want to go out there and watch Divine Gate right away! It will not be a mistake.

Was it the best anime I've ever seen? no, far from it. But I LOVED the art style and I did really feel for the three main characters. Each of them had their own unique storyline, that I actually believed were pretty fleshed out under the 12 episode time crunch they had. Did I mention that the art style was absolutely captivating? It was a good one-day binge watch. I am actually pretty upset that this didn't get a season two after the ending we got left off on. I was even more disappointed to find out here is no manga for me to ... go read and catch up on.
