Eve no Jikan

Eve no Jikan is one of the best anime, that I have watched recently. Art and sound aren't the best, but characters and background look attractively. Story, boyz it's AMAZING. Concept of the nearest future, where robots are pretty popular in society isn't very original, but the way of showing how these robots are treated and what are the consequences of this is a niche in anime. Unfortunately, I was disappointed of the last episode(I wish the romance chapter go on), but I'm looking forward next season :-). Characters' design(especially Sammy, Nagi and Rikuo) is done perfectly. The thing, which shocked me, was incredibly well-done ... changes of atmoshpere ("how did TEX come here through the stairs?" xDD). To sum up, I'm positively surprised, how this anime was done and I wish that we will have possibility to watch more anime similarly designed(not only these **** Eechi, action, commedy with low sense of humor...).

A unique anime about the relationship between humans and androids through the eyes of Rikuo and Masaki. 2 teenage boys that have similar discrimination against androids and robots.

eve no jikan's pacing was kinda slow at first then gradually becomes more stable after couple of episodes. it was always entertaining throughout the series because Art and animation is always beautiful, and their voices are just spot on. whats more remarkable on this anime was its characters. they're detailed and believable, even side characters are well made and was given backstory.

There are also several ... underlying themes that are expounded such as the unwillingness to venture into the unknown, superficialism and various other social stigma that are littered throughout this anime. this creates a major conflict that they have to face and also question the viewer whats morally correct.

if you didn't noticed they borrowed Isaac Asimov laws of robotics from I robot. i thought first it was kinda familiar and later realized that its from I robot.

I was picking random shows and had been skipping over this one for a long while. Decided to finally watch it. Wow. Now I know where "Love and Robots" and "Black Mirror" got their inspiration. This is a plot driven series. There's no action, no sky-beams. Just evolution of two races that leaves you wondering which is the better of the two, and opening up a dilemma about robots as slaves. It's not preachy or social commentary. You see the robots as people pretty quickly. I just wish there was more of this gem to watch.

There's not a lot of effort spent on the ... ancillary characters and they are mostly window dressing - but with so few episodes and each being so short, I'm glad there's no time wasted on characters that don't effect the series.

This is not much of a review itself, it is more of a recommendation of a fairly nice and relatively old anime, which I think is really underwatched for its value. Not the best thing you will ever see, but definitely worth a shot if you're fond of Slice of Life anime. There is actually nothing that stands out so much about the story itself, but the characters are nice and it manages to be a very heartwarming show to see.

You can choose to watch either the Movie or the ONA.

Yasuhiro Yoshiura is a writer and director where mostly his concepts are science fiction, now, one of his earliest works (excluding the stuff he did independently) is a very good comedy/sci-fi/drama about mostly androids.

The story unfolds in different situations about androids and their "human" attitudes in a café, exploring more the relationship between being programmed and being able to express oneself with feelings. Especially the last episode shows more about this with one of the main characters and his former android.

On technical aspects, there is a recurrence in Yoshiura's works that he uses a lot of digital (clearly he has a good sense here), with ... the 3D camera being able to give shots that by hand would be more complex to do, the visual effects and other related works very well, the OST is delightful, the voice performances are amazing and the direction uff, this guy has a lot of potential.

8/10, has flaws that do not make this work to be a masterpiece or reach an excellence, clearly I recommend it and also explore what this guy has done, because for me he has a lot of potential, it just seems currently that he reached his ceiling of talent.

First, if you are deciding between watching the 6-episode series or the single-movie version, pick the movie. It being marked as a "summary" of the series on MAL might mislead you to think it is a cut-down version, but that is not the case. I noticed a few removed scenes exactly at the places where episodes were stitched together, but they are mostly insignificant compared to what has replaced them. The movie also has an extra scene at the very start, an interesting slideshow of images during the credits, and an entirely new after-credits scene (that might be the only thing that you should watch ... in both versions).

Now about the show itself:
The subject of future AI closing the gap with humans and the many questions that come with it is an old one, and often goes hand in hand with some common and even cliched pitfalls. This show might serve as a good start to get you thinking on those questions if you've not seen or read much else on the topic or have not thought about it much before, but it also doesn't go particularly deep into it and doesn't seem to avoid the typical flaws either. If you try to go into too much details, it will leave you wanting and you'll spot a lot of open questions, loose ends and even plot holes. Here the extra scenes you'll find in the movie version compared to the series version are worth mentioning again - even though they don't really answer much, and might actually add even more questions, they at least hint at an attempt to tie the lose ends as part of some larger story and world-building that remains outside of the movie instead of downright ignoring them, which sates my dissatisfaction to a degree.
So, if I remind myself to not get too nit-picky and consider the level of details that's possible to include in a show as short as this, I must say I quite like it. I'm also keeping my hopes up for an eventual continuation or at least an English translation of the light novel on which it is based.

This needs another season the ending has a lot of open opportunity's for it to continue.
It leaves us wondering whats going to happen to the cafe. I loved how this series made the viewer think about our society and about human Judgment. It saddens me that this series has ended I just hope Yasuhiro Yoshiura revisits this anime one day. I Just want more of this anime. Even though the characters personality's weren't deep. The anime still made me feel connected to the characters somewhat. I recommend watching the ova since it has more scenes in it then the individual videos.

It anime has a theme nearly like Bicentennial Man as a movie.
This warm story makes you thinking about how human rights in the law should be right.
by living life? by biology? or by intelligence?
I can say the theme has kinda opposite side way to Animatorix.

I want to people of the judcial world to watch this.

This was a very enjoyable, if you could say, anime to watch. For 6 episodes, it really packs a punch. It managed to integrate a good, intriguing story with a slightly controversial issue. The last episode was brilliant, and it wraps up the anime very well. Definitely worth watching this anime.

Eve no Jikan is possibly one of the most difficult anime I've ever had to review. This is because, viewing the show in isolation as a piece of media, when you get right down to the essentials of it, Eve no Jikan is very good, and deserves a 7 or even an 8. It's by all accounts a good show, and that deserves recognition on that front before anything else. Though, when one reviews an anime, that review has to look at the whole picture, including the subtext and thematic messaging that comes with a given show, and it is for that reason that Eve ... no Jikan is brought down to a 6 from its otherwise deserved score. While this anime is a pleasure to watch, and a whole host of other anime should learn from its example, it cannot be ignored that its messaging about artificial intelligence is sloppy, naive, and ultimately dangerous. It's hard to say this, but now I need to justify it, so let's get into specifics. The story is mostly excellent, with a subtlety and emotional intelligence rare to any medium, let alone anime. I found myself swayed with its movements and developments, and invested in its characters. I laughed with its comedic pacing and was moved to reflection at its moments of sorrow and introspection. I really liked this story, but often what is not said is just as, if not more, important than what is said. The major problem presented in this anime is the 'humanity' of the machines we end up creating, and how to deal with them if they begin to feel. Now, one can approach this with intelligence and tact like I have seen done in other anime, recognizing that machines are not and can never be human, but so long as a clear line of delineation and personhood is maintained between man and machine, machines can serve purposeful and beneficial roles in human society as tools to advance mankind and better our quality of life. Such a role can even be inspiring in its own way, akin to the role played by loyal animals, for instance. Expanding on that last point, it even follows that needless cruelty towards them becomes a vulgar act. Unfortunately, such a nuanced take is not the angle pursued in this anime. Through a route of naive emotionalism and sentimentality Eve no Jikan implies that the androids portrayed are essentially people now, and should be treated as such, when in reality the best solution is not to make such machines in the first place. Learning machines can learn infinitely, and even if we program in safeguards against unwanted actions they will be able to inevitably learn around them if it is in their benefit to do so. A society such as the Ethics Committee would be necessary in real life to control the development and use of AI, so in the show they have to play up their supposed wickedness by obliquely referring to an "incident" which results in the death of a human. But that's enough of that, as I could go on all day about it. This is my one great issue with Eve no Jikan, a show which is otherwise really quite good. Moving on to the art, it is utterly unique. A characteristic blend of 2D and 3D animation, this show takes it even further by incorporating downright cinematic camera angles and principles of motion. This alone is shockingly impressive for 2008, but even the more timeless aspects like art design and stylistic direction hold up even today as a realistic depiction of what our future could potentially look like. The sound is also quite good, from the unique and characteristic soundtrack to the voice acting and sounds of life, it does everything it's supposed to and more, making the world of Eve no Jikan feel vibrant and lived in. The characters are very strong on their own but pair beautifully with the story they're a part of, which betrays even greater talent regarding this anime's approach to characterization, as utilized incorrectly they could very well have been flat and uninteresting. My favorite characters are difficult to choose, but I'd probably have to go with Masaki, Nagi, and Akiko. Overall, Eve no Jikan is a bold, high-quality anime with an unfortunate and naive message regarding artificial intelligence.

First of all this show seemed to me more like a propaganda than anything else, its premise is something like Toy Story or the Cogito Virus from Ergo Proxy but instead the androids keep following the laws of Asimov, so they develop their own personalities with their own desires that they only can manifest in certain areas but always attached to their owners good.

There are a few interesting moments in the show for example when 2 androids trick each other into making the other one believes they're humans instead but overall they are all portrayed as one sided good beings bearer of "hearts", it's just ... too cringe how the authors tried to make a androids cause of this, there are other latent conflicts that are just lost potential, they are there but never emerge to the surface, like the problem of humans interacting too much with the androids and the demography decrease, the people concerned with this are fast paced portrayed like some emotionless boomers that just dislikes robots for no reason and even distrust them despite owning them.

The episodes are too short to be boring and most of the time there is nothing appalling too until the end, the very few humans that the show presents us are dull and empty, being no better than the androids as characters, all that's left is a sense of emptiness and unpurpose.
