The "Scotland Loves Anime" film festival takes place annually in Glasgow and Edinburgh. It was started in 2010 and includes the "Golden Partridge" jury award and audience-voted awards.

The past winners of the Golden Partridge Award are as follows.

2016: Kimi no Na wa.
2017: Yoake Tsugeru Lu no Uta
2018: Penguin Highway
2019: Kimi to, Nami ni Noretara
2020: n/a

In 2017, the live action Tokyo Ghoul film had its UK premiere at SLA.

In 2019, Isora Iwakiri's film The Sacrament had its UK premiere at SLA.

In 2020, the festival was hosted online. It also included Penguin Highway, Production I.G.'s short film collection and Weathering With You.

When I first started watching anime, I thought anime was basically a kind of animation with a unique art style. But now I am seeing that most anime comes with a lot of tropes, and a lot of people see these tropes as part of anime. I am not a fan of these tropes, so I am making a list of anime that I like, and I feel have a relatively low amount of tropes, at least compared to most other anime. I still haven't watched a lot of anime, for example - Fullmetal Alchemist Brotherhood. But I will add more anime as I watch them.

Whether for better or for worse, these anime have characters that highly value individualism, personal achievement and detest government action against peaceful peoples.

This includes a wide ideological base ranging from Randian Objectivism, to Anarchist, to just generally anti-authoritarianism.

Shows that take the audience's intelligence seriously, with dark tones and heavy stories. No overblown gorefests or edgy "psychological" shit that's just trying to shock viewers by pretending to be adult.

These are mostly 90s-00s SF, a time period in which this sort of heavily grounded, emotional/philosophical tone was popular with industry veterans.

Series that I consider to be more than just a dumb animation.
(I could forget many series, especially the old ones)

Shows that given to the right staff and with the right budget could make for a fantastic live action adaptation. of course it can still go wrong when given to incompetent people, but if done well, they have potential to be amazing.

shows that heavily rely on telling you what's going on to a big degree.

sometimes you don't feel like using your brain, so having everything laid out in front of you, may make for some good popcorn fun!

although you should still look at the genre, sometimes tell don't show is there to convey massive amounts of information in one go. info dumps so to speak, so don't go into shinsekai yori expecting a popcorn movie.

you should also note that shows like Baki or JoJo are here, but their "tell" is not out of lazyness. it's there because it would be impossible to know wtf is happening if the characters didn't explain what was going on while it was happening, due to how absurd the "powers" are.

Here are some works that explores concepts/themes that may have some ground on the queer theory narratives like identity, power, desire, sex, gender, etc. They’re mixed with other societal problematics such as colonialism, politics, race, class, dispositives of control, institutionalization, etc. Thus they’re intersectional-queer animes.

I try showing stories that have some queer stuff on them but also go beyond the typical romance drama, so no BL o yuri or wathev, i try to evade basic Queerbaity-ones from the fujoshi’s realm like Free! or SK8.

P. S I: These works are date from the 2000’s onwards. I have another one for the ones below the 2000´s, and one for the very best, check them!
