This will be a very personal review. Candy Candy is one of those animes that have a lasting impact. I got to watch it when I was a child living in Dominican Republic, many of us would then talk about Candy Candy and even get together to watch it. The music is memorable and the characters were so engaging. It wasn't magical, it was simple drama with things that one might typically engage in at some schools and life in general. The bullies, moving forward through all kinds of difficulties and set backs, dealing with difficult people, and all the while staying positive. There ...

Nothing but respect for this one.

Mizuki has done an amazing job on the characters.Love, death, loss, despare, joy are all portrayed with a touch of innocence that this day is hard to find.

Igarashi was just excellent in her illustrations.

Watanabe's score is atrue masterpiece.Salida hacia la Esperanza still hunts me to this day.

Candy Candy has written History with its success in so many different countries (Spain,Greece,Italy,France etc) and has gained enormous popularity all across Europe, Southeast Asia, Africa, and Latin America. As a result it also boosted the anime/manga mania and helped the specific form of art be established and known across the world.

A shoujo that managed to ...

Same as @lucifera, being from the Dominican Republic, i grew up watching this great anime (we didn't even called it anime at that time, just J-cartoons ^^)

it brings back lots of memories, it has very sad moments, and that's maybe why i avoid re-watching it too much. But i will watch the movies (didn't know about them till today!)

on the other hand am grateful, i saw this, along with Future Boy Conan and many other great series from the 80's :)

another anime with a similar story is Ashita no Nadja or just Nadja, i started watching it in Cartoon Network, but only got halfway, so ...

I watched Candy back when I was about 8 on DVDs that my parents bought. This was in the 2000. My parents grew up with this series and were big fans of manga, enough to the extent we have manga in the basement. One of those collections were Candy, Candy.

Candy is an anime that had a lasting impact. Even now, more than 10 years later, I can still summarize the plot and character names. I can't say the same for many others.

This anime made me laugh, cry, burn in fury at the wicked step siblings and stepmother. I watched in earnest to find ...

Preliminary (7/115 eps)
Through millennia of evolution, the sound of a crying child has been genetically engineered to be the most insufferable noise imaginable.

Of course, in Candy Candy it's not nearly as grating but it tries to be and the characters are crying all the time. It's more realistic that way, but it's not in service of any goal. The anime is from the 1970's and hence so are the concerns it addresses (whatever those are). Insufferable realism is meaningless here.

Oh, and it looks and sounds awful, especially the sound of crying children.

It has it's moments and Donald Trump does make an appearance, but it's largely utterly insufferable.

All 115 Completed. (Español Disponible)
This is a very hard Slice of Life for the time that was released. There's so much feelings in this anime and very dificult things that make the viewer so upset about all the things that Candy has to pass through. In overall prepare yourself to cry. We need to be like Candy, always happy and fighting for every dream we have in our lives. Has a very good story, sometimes a little boring but that's the part when the art, and the characters bring on. The sound teleports you into a piece of a moment that Candy is living, is ...
