Birth is pretty much Dead Leaves of the 80s in that it's intended to be non-stop, creative, fun and stylish action. Considered irredeemably terrible by many 80s anime fans, it's one of the most underrated OVAs of all time.

There is not much to stories as it's not suppose to be important in both, but there are lots of action scenes and fight with of course aliens and monsters in similar places like desert and city.

Both are laced with exaggerated animation and happenings. While Kill la Kill has a minimally more elaborate story, Birth is already much simpler and seems to be an anime that just wants you to enjoy its 01:20:00 animation of extreme quality.

Fun & stylish animation with likable characters and a thin plot.

The Revue Starlight Movie made me think of Birth. - Wonderful visuals. - Many scenes in the desert. - Lots of movement like running and falling. - But the story and ending did not make much sense to me.

Quality animation and fantastical worlds are the biggest similarities between these two anime. Stylistically different to be sure, but Flip Flappers almost feels like a throwback to the type of thing we'd see from Birth and "similar" OAVs from the 80s and 90s. That's immediately what I thought of when I first started watching Flip Flappers, and while it doesn't necessarily live up to that "feel" entirely, there were enough elements to scratch that same kind of itch.

The visual style and general feel of both works is very similar. Both involve extended chase sequences with odd looking robots and moderatly cryptic philosophy masked by their manic tone.

Fast-paced, wildly kinetic, and fluidly animated. These OVAs share a similar art/animation style. But beyond that, they're not terribly similar.

No time for plot (as it was common in that era) - there is one non-stop race-and-battle for ya. Funky transport, big robots, speaking blobs, cute girl, some magic in sci-fi-ish post-apocalyptic world - all check. Cool Cool Bye has seemingly more detailed drawing but lame animation. Interesting hover bikes design and good ending song are only worthy parts for me. Birth is much better overall. Story has some depth actually, if you can find it behind nonsensical dialogues. And animation is just awesome.

I found the visuals of both these films gorgeous. In Birth, it was more the animation, in Kaijuu no Kodomo, more the background art. In many scenes, there are people falling or floating. Not many words are spoken, and if there are, they did not make much sense to me... The stories were somehow about birth and rebirth and cosmic forces, but I could not really follow, because during the beautiful scenes, my thoughts were wandering somewhere else and I found myself dozing off, which I consider as a bad sign regarding entertainment value. But for someone who can sit through almost 2 hours just for the beautiful art,  read more
