Dead Leaves, Birth Recommendations
Birth is pretty much Dead Leaves of the 80s in that it's intended to be non-stop, creative, fun and stylish action. Considered irredeemably terrible by many 80s anime fans, it's one of the most underrated OVAs of all time.
Before Hiroyuki Imaishi's insanely entertaining Dead Leaves, the world of anime delivers Birth two decades earlier. Just like Gurren Lagann was inspired by the likes of Getter Robo Armageddon, Dead Leaves takes at least some inspiration from the more modest Birth. Featuring impressive directorial choices and cuts, good animation (for the the mid '80's), fast-paced action and a cast of mad, yet colourful characters, This 1h19min OVA film is bound to leave some people wanting more and some wishing they'd get back the time they wasted.
