When it comes to action-packed shounen, World Trigger is a great example. From a plethora of interesting characters to clever action scenes, World Trigger never fails to deliver.
Let's have a look at the pros and cons this anime has to offer.

Starting off with the weak points. First of all, the series is not very visually appealing. Being almost a decade old, the animation and backgrounds can easily be compared to modern anime. There are scenes where the visuals seem lazy or repeating.
Another drawback is that it takes a while to get into action.
The first ... episodes introduce the better ones to follow, but sometimes it feels too much.

Now going over the reasons you should watch it. Foremost, World Trigger presents and expands a universe with seemingly limitless potential. As mentioned in the beginning, many characters appear throughout the series and have their time on the screen.
Another great part of the show is the action scenes. They are filled with plot twists and smart scenarios where the character's personalities are explored more.
Lastly, the plot is sweet. There are no times when it feels that it is changing pace; World Trigger keeps things exciting and original in every episode.

Concluding, World Trigger and the following seasons are nice choices for action and adventure anime fans.

Definitely a good and solid anime.

Unlike your typical action-packed anime where the characters blast and punch their way to victory without any tact whatsoever, this anime actually makes the road to victory realistic. Characters don't rely on sheer physical strength, they use tactics and creative ideas to overcome their enemies.

The MC not being the strongest at all, he uses his smarts to win. He has quite a likeable character and his progress is improving after every setback. He learns from his mistakes and becomes stronger because of it.

The story itself is interesting with many characters having their own distinctive character trait. The anime does ... a good job at focusing on other characters besides the main ones.

This anime is surely one of the better ones in its genre. Good directing and transitions.

The story had me engaged throughout most of the anime anime however the filler arc sorta stops the flow of the story. The start of the anime can also be a little slow for some people but around the middle of the season it really picks up the pace and becomes really enjoyable to watch. It should also be noted that the first couple episodes are probably the worse and are the reason that so many people drop this anime. I also personally enjoyed watching Yuma progress and watching as his rank increases with each battle.

Nothing that special. it's not bad and has slight variations from the usual art style that i am use to watching and didn't really effect my enjoyment of the series.

Throughout the anime the characters experience growth. The anime really showcases how each of the main characters grow. With some growth being related to their skills in battle and some of the growth being mental. Really loved some of the character interactions throughout this anime.

The show was really enjoyable with there being plenty of action throughout the season. One major aspect of the show that i enjoyed was that not every fight was just won by either force of will or the strength of an individual character. A lot of the later fights in the series consist of a lot of strategy and tactics allowing for a refreshing and interesting show.

A solid anime with some amazing qualities. For me it is probably one of my favorite Shonen due to the fact that the main character isn't overpowered (asides from the beginning) and that all the action is just people winning due to brute force with the deciding factor of many battles coming down to team work and tactics.

Anime mixes all feelings and emotions without being cliché, the songs are well selected with an exciting rhythm, each character has their background and each one is unique and makes the story rich and that you have intimacy with each character and be inserted in the world from World Trigger. I assume that in the first episode I didn't receive it very well, but after 2 episodes the anime evolves surprisingly.
It's an amazing anime, when you get the hang of it you've watched several episodes in a row.

Story: Mikumo Osamu a high school student is a member of a security agency named as "Border" which protects the civilians from the neighbors invading the Mikado City. Neighbors in this anime comes from a portal named "gate" in order to invade and capture civilians from Earth. One day Osamu met a person name Kuga Yuma who is a neighbor who protects Mikumo from neighbor, which taught Mikumo that not all neighbors are bad. Amatori Chika is a middle school girl who Mikumo wants to protect as it was a promise made by Mikumo and Chika's brother. One day Jin )(a person from branch office ... of Border called as "tamakoma") confronts Kuga and Mikumo who knew that Yuma is a neighbor and then he recruits Yuma in Border. In the end Amatori Chika, Kuga Yuma and Mikumo Osamu made a team in Border in order go to the away squad.
Art: The art is not that great but is good enough during the fighting scenes.
Sound: Sounds in this anime aren't perfectly delivered but wasn't bad
Character: All the characters in this anime are very good and they even get screen-time in order to show why they act like what they do.
Enjoyment: This show is honestly soo good that i didn't even knew when I finished all of its episodes (excluding the fullers).
Overall: Its 10/10 for me, this anime is greatly underrated I will suggest all of the people who watch anime to watch this without any delay.

Unlike most people, I personally enjoyed this anime. The story is so unique and different from what I usually see in anime. The cast of this anime is especially interesting. From Mikumo to Yuma to Chika, each character has an interesting past and upbringing. I would definitely say that this anime is underrated and I can't wait for the next season. The manga is outstanding and very interesting. If you liked world trigger you should definitely check it out! The soundtrack is really good too. One of the openings is sung by the popular kpop group TxT and the song is titled Force.

World Trigger was a surprise find and delight! I enjoyed the heck out of this show. It had me hooked on episode one. It truly is an underrated show. The plot isn't that original but they did a good job at making it their own. World Trigger introduces you to a vast amount of characters, so you should be able to find a character that you enjoy watching. This show starts right away. The power system is very easy to follow because it is a weapon system and there aren't really any unique ... weapons. Also because of the standard weapon system you get to see each character create their style within the basic fighting style to give everyone a sort of unique yet memorable battle. The main cast of Osamu, Kuga and, Chika are all vastly different characters, but the added supporting cast helps put everything together. All the characters are loveable in their own way. The only negative that I have about this season is that there is a filler arc closer to the end of the show that ruins the flow. The art style of the show isn't groundbreaking but it does a good job with the fight scenes. One thing that I found confusing was when you are introduced to new characters they give you a lot of information at once, and it can be hard to process or to remember whose who. Overall I gave World Trigger season 1 a 10/10. I really enjoyed this show it was fun and sweet.

World Trigger is one of those anime that are focused on character development and plot. I think this was a fair anime, but it could've been better in many ways. For instance, the plot was a bit rushed. There were times where I got lost and didn't fully understand what was happening in the story. Other than that said, I really enjoyed the first season of World Trigger.

Main character becomes a huge icon and fights neighbors and their creations. He allies with a neighbor and forms a team with him and another girl, their sniper. This genre is not uncommon, ... but the plot is quite common found in anime similarly to Bleach, Kekkaishi, and Gate. I have this an 08 only because I enjoyed the difference between the action anime that have been coming out.

Although, not aesthetically drawn, it is simple and easy on the eyes. Nothing too flashy, sparkly, glamorous, and just right for an action anime. To me, it's not the details that matter, but how the backgrounds and characters mesh.

There aren't really any dramatic or suspenseful soundtracks in this anime. The sound effects are cool and basic, nothing too much to the ears.

I couldn't really come to like Osamu, the main character. He is physically weak and takes him too long to realize he needed to focus and train on his body. Although, he is very intelligent and is the brain of his team. You could say he is also one of the "useless" teammates. Chika, the sniper, is a very tiny, timid, and short girl. She knows she is weak so she wanted to be someone useful to the team. She holds a lot of Trion, so she can shoot massive explosions. I came to like her in the end. Kuga, is probably my second favorite character in this anime, he is the neighbor, and is very strong. He knows when his opponent is stronger than him and thinks logically. The other characters in the anime, you don't really focus too much on them.

I probably started getting into World Trigger around episode 28. The first 20 episodes are boring and Osamu is weak and boring, dull, incapable of getting stronger. But after a while, when he realizes how weak he is, he changes and the story starts moving. My favorite part of the anime is during the team fights.

The anime wasn't bad nor amazing, but it was worth the while to watch. Chika and Kuga really grow on you more than Osamu does. I would definitely watch this again C=

It's been a long time, apparently after the end of Boku no Hero Academia Season 5, an anime actually triggers my adrenaline.
The anime, namely World Trigger, is a story about the alien creature called Neighbors invades the world. However, the world counters by stealing the technology of Neighbors and making it their own. Later, the world creates an anti-Neighbors organization called Border.
Border agents make use of Neighbors' technology by utilizing the so called Trion, the life energy, in exchange for much powerful body and of course, power.
Our main character name Osamu is one of the Agents which is known for his weak Trion and high ... intelligence plan making, and he starts from the bottom pit of the hierarchy, climbing out to be the strongest Border Agent in order to protect the world.
Simple story yet it develops into a much greater scale of enjoyment.

The story itself is one of the main interesting point, because it uses the ranking system and the fact that the main character is probably one of the weakest Border Agent with so little Trion.
Though, that also interests me because main character putting into the bottom hierarchy, climbing to be the best, is one of the story I love so much.

I can tell that this art is pretty much similar to the character making of Boku no Hero Academia. The main character really looks like Midoriya Izuku in a straight hair and glasses fashion.

Sound: 7

The sound is pretty good, especially the OP and ED.
However, one think I don't understand, or prolly it is just me who is not really familiar with this pattern, is the OP song in the middle of the anime. It sounds great, but it somehow disturbs the enjoyment I have.

Character: 8

As I mentioned earlier, the character making is pretty similar to Boku no Hero Academia. Our MC, Osamu, also has the stubborness and straighforward character that are typically Main Character-ish stuff.
As I watch more, I kind of notice that Itachi's seiyuu and Kugimiya Rie-chan are there as well. My heart fills with joy! LOL

Enjoyment: 9

I enjoy this freaking anime so much, that I thought season 1 would end with 24 episodes, similar to BnHA, but thanks God, it is 70++.

I give 9 because points that bring enjoyment and jump up adrenaline actually overperform everything. Especially Itachi's seiyuu and Tsundere Queen Kugimiya Rie.

World Trigger has annoying plot progression.
Every, and I mean EVERY arc will abide to that age-old rule of all shitty shounens, "every next episode until climax covers less and less time in the story".

MC is an absolute, painful to watch weakling at the beginning, is a shameless weakling thorought the show that, while understands that he's weak, doesn't become exceptionally backstabby, as a conscious weakling should, and, in the very last episode, becomes a weakling that maybe has chances of stopping to be weak.
In shounen genre it's trying to watch and empathise with non-dynamic, weak MC, so that's a significant drawback too.

Worse yet, the ... whooping 73 episodes end extremely abrubtly, without even any effort on studios part to tie up the loose ends, obviously aiming for seconds season. However the show wasn't received as well as it should, and the manga went on an indefinite hiatus, so we're left with a show that basically ends crudely somewhere in 3/4 of fourth (i think?) arc.

Then again, the characters are quite charming (annoyingly enough, MC and his overpowered sidekick don't belong to that group), and the art quite solid.

I won't hide the fact I dropped the show at first after withnessing that the main premise is humans fighting against some weird, white animal-styled knick-knacks you'd buy your mom for christmas if you had no idea what'd be good for a present. They have some kind of eyes inside their mouths too, so...
but don't worry, the story generally focuses on interactions between humans, and stupid CG fights against lazily made mob robots takes suprisingly little screentime.

That's generally my opinion of the show. If you've run out of interesting anime to watch, it's worth a go. It's not at all exceptional, however.

This is one shounen anime where you can find a double protagonist, Kuga Yuma-kun and Mikumo Osamu-kun. Basically, this is a shounen battle anime so fairly one of the protagonists is just experienced fighter. And the other one is smart, and work on the plan. I kinda like this type of anime story pretty much because it's just will not make you upset but will give you some will power to do something actually, should be careful from chunibyu side-effect. xD
I will give simple and short details of this anime so it won't hurt the interest when someone ... is gonna watch it.
Neighbour, is an alien type people who were not born into Meeden (a.k.a. Earth). Who attack normal people to steal life energy (a.k.a. Trion). So in order to protect people of a hidden academy discover a technology which is basically inspired by Neighbours (Name Trigger). And one of our protagonists is one of the agent of that academy, border agent. Mikumo Osamu is the agent from Border who use to study in Mikado High School and he was keeping secret from his classmate that he is a border agent. Then one day he meets with Koga Yuma, who claims himself as Neighbour and after many things happened and Osamu and Yuma became friends. Osamu has a very close friend name Chika. With Yuma and Chika they made a team and aiming for being Rank A Agents.

I’m not embarrassed to say that some pretty good anime gets past my radar even when the poster invites a curiosity that is asking me to just give it a gander. It took a positive reception of the second season for World Trigger to really give this anime a chance and after watching season 1, I think I have a good idea of why the new season is getting a good score.

After finding out Studio Toei’s involvement with this anime, something I neglected to pay attention to after watching 26 episodes, it now makes sense why the Art in World Trigger feels just a ... bit off. The animation is not a complete turn off as there are particular moments where it can turn from mediocre to stunning. With that being said, you can still see that senior artists play a big factor in the anime’s random quality which really hurt its chances of a higher score.

What really becomes the saving grace of World Trigger is the plot. The story follows Mikumo a 15-year old high school student who gets saved from the Kaiju like “neighbors” which come from another world. A chance encounter with a new classmate leads Mikumo down a path to becoming what is suspected as an unlikely hero in this dire situation.

As you watch each episode, you begin to understand the World of……World Trigger is an expansive one. What I grew to appreciate was the surgical push of information. This becomes apparent in the first big fight scene as we only learn just enough to follow what's happening and nothing more. The next big fight scene then continues to deliver more information in one of the most creative ways I’ve seen from an anime and it was at this point I was all in to find out just how deep this rabbit hole gets.

While the story of World Trigger isn’t a light hearted one, it definitely does not take its self seriously….at all. The writing is just as detailed as the plot and you get a great sense of personality from each character.

The soundtrack is also pleasing. I hate to be that 90’s guy but this anime is definitely giving off that deliberate vibe and the music is its main culprit.

Overall, I enjoyed the first season of World Trigger. Better animation would have made this a standout of the season, and what I believe to be a filler arc almost took me out of the anime(I skipped it) but I do recommend giving this one a chance as it will pull you in eventually.

LONG REVIEW INCOMING

So its 2019. Here I am sitting in a room, writing a review for a series already 5 years old instead of going outside and getting my priorities straight. Yup, that's how dedicated I am to writing this and hopefully someone out there would be willing to take this review to heart and try this series out without simply conforming to the majority's views.

This series is underrated and I don't use that term a lot. A lot of people are actually willing to call a series that don't get enough attention "underrated" which is really just the wrong use of the word. I ... say World Trigger is underrated because it doesn't deserve even half of the hate it gets. The other half though, I can understand.

1. The Production.
As someone who read the manga right after finishing the anime, I can say that as a series, World Trigger did not deserve the lackluster production Toei Animation gave it during its 73 episode run. And now we get to the 50% I was talking about earlier, one which I understood for being this anime's failure. Toei Animation really choked the life out of World Trigger and I mean that literally. Almost everything you don't want to see in an anime adaptation is pretty much present. Recaps ranging from one minute to two, the opening popping up out of nowhere in the middle of the episode, cliffhangers, still frames (the worse being at least a minute long) and just outright bad animation. They even had the nerve to make an episode where it's 50% recap and 50% plot. So why do I still like this series? Is there something wrong with me? No because if you can get behind all of these flaws, what you have is a battle shounen that could potentially compete with big name titles like Naruto, Bleach, etc.

So to quote Tokyo Ghoul and Berserk fans. Read the manga.

2. The Power System
Now here comes the positives should you stick around to this show till the end. World Trigger isn't your average shounen when it comes to fights. It's battles are not your run-of-the-mill "my POWAA is stronger than yours" or "I beat you because I care about my nakama more". Almost every battle that takes place is strategy based, the ones that aren't are usually resolved as quick as possible. It may not seem like that at first, in fact most people may be turned off by the subpar fights and slow pacing in the first few episodes just because of that. I would say the fights really start to pick up at episode 7, where one of the main characters really start to struggle and even then its just one fight and may not be able to convince most people to stick around. The fight that I would say sold me to this series would be in episode 13 to 15 where Jin Yuuichi, one of the main characters, gets to shine.

Here, I will now introduce Triggers, which if we're talking power systems, may just be one of the greatest power systems in anime of all time. Now that is a large claim to make, especially from a newbie reviewer but hear me out. It is in my humble opinion that out of all the shounen anime I have watched thus far, Triggers would rank spot number 3 for unique power systems in anime. The second would be alchemy from FMA and the first would be a tie between Stands from JoJo and Nen from HunterxHunter. Note: I have not watched HunterxHunter as of writing this but hearing how much people love the Nen system, I'm reserving it alongside JoJo just from expectation.

Now back to Triggers, it's largely a simple system. All living beings possess energy called Trion within them, basically the chakra of World Trigger. And just like physical attributes, Trion levels differ from person to person. Don't worry though as having high Trion doesn't necessarily mean you win all the time. Border, the main organization in the series develops Triggers, small pocket devices that when activated, harnesses Trion into weapons and abilities. When activated, Triggers replaces your physical body with a Trion body that magnifies your strength and reflexes. You also do not feel pain and when fatally injured, you'll simply revert back into your normal body. As you can guess, deaths in this series are rare. Even after 73 episodes, you can pretty much count them on a single hand.

Unlike in most shounen though, where you use your increasingly unpredictable powers in usually predictable power wrestling matches, Triggers are the exact opposite in that you are forced to use your usually predictable powers in unpredictable ways in a series of mind games to pull through. Triggers are technology, as such most of them that are created by Border are uniform. While Triggers are customizable and can give you a few but still limited weapons and abilities, they cannot be done on the fly. So what you choose better be suited to the conditions you're fighting in.

Trigger users are usually grouped in four classes; Attackers, Gunners, Shooters and Snipers and each of those classes possess their own options, strengths and weaknesses. Think of the classes in RPG games. In this case Attackers are warriors or rogues, Gunners and Snipers are Archers and Shooters are mages. To put it simply, Attackers uses blades and boast the most damage and least Trion consumption, Gunners are the exact opposite but with far better range, Shooters manipulates Trion in the form of moving projectiles and expend Trion just as much as Gunner and Snipers are well...snipers.

Now this may seem like your average rock-paper-scissors type power system but that only applies to the ones not willing to exploit the weaknesses each of these classes possess. Even the weapons and abilities each class possess have weaknesses. For example, the Scorpion in the Attacker class is an energy blade that can manifest anywhere from the body, can be shaped into anything the user wishes and is virtually weightless. However, it's also fragile and any attempts to block with it will break it. Then there's Kogetsu, a medium type blade that is heavier than the Scorpion but also more durable. So does this mean Kogetsu is better? Of course not. Scorpion has the advantage of being the most nimble and versatile. Heck, one border agent replaced her severed foot with a Scorpion copy. Another agent was able to channel Scorpion to travel underground and strike another from below. Meanwhile, Kogetsu is better for long drawn out duels, unlike the hit and run style of Scorpion users. It's all in how you use it.

Battles in World Trigger are rarely about power and the ones that do are extremely rare. Most of the time, a user's skill and experience will pull him/her through. In cases where skills are near equal, it becomes a set of mind games and strategies and this is what the battles in World Trigger do best.

3. Story

The story of World Trigger would probably be above average at best, at least for the first quarter. And for those who dropped it at the start of the series, may not like it at all. This is because World Trigger lacks a clear and concise goal in which the characters can pursue until like the 12th episode. And even then, the real purpose isn't really the most compelling in the world. Most of the time prior to episode 12,
the plot mainly progresses in favor of world building rather than character development. Not saying that's a bad thing but in the case of shounens like WT, a balanced approached would've been better. World Trigger's modus operandi is its battle scenes and while that can be just as good as having a compelling story, it is sometimes not enough to attract a majority of viewers.

4. Art

I've little to say of the art. The designs for the Border agents are incredibly unique for some and generic for others with only their team uniforms to differentiate them from others. The design for the main villains of the Aftoktrator arc are unique but not really game changing. The most unique that pops up in my mind is the old man and teleporter woman.

5. Sound

I rarely pay much attention to sound effects in anime. But as a regular watcher of shounen, the weapon SFX for the Triggers are unique enough to pop up in my mind should I hear it again. The soundtrack too are also well done and can perfectly capture the vibe that the characters are in, such as during close quarter combat or moments of strategizing and exposition. Although, it's main theme can get repetitive. The openings however, are one of the best parts for WT. My favorite being the second opening song. The first half starts of slow with its MCs, the second half perfectly captures the fighting style of almost every Border agent while also being fast enough to get your blood pumping.

6. Character

Anyone who has seen WT for the first few episodes can pretty much see one of the major flaws of this series in general. It's main character, Osamu Mikumo. To put it simply, he's useless. Born with average (maybe below average) Trion as well as lackluster fighting capabilities, in almost every encounter with an enemy he needed aid from his much stronger friend Kuga. And does he improve after 73 episodes? Barely. Just from me saying that, a lot of people are going to be turned off. But here's the thing. It's not his character to be badass. It's not his character to have over the top powers. He is the antithesis to shounen protagonists. He does not have a demon with unlimited power in his tummy or having the luck of meeting and inheriting a powerful person's power.

Osamu is a strategist and in World Trigger, that alone is already a valuable asset. But do note that he is not a battle tactician. What's the difference? In a war, Osamu is more suited to being in an office rather than the field. Let's look at his closest counterpart from another anime, Joseph Joestar. Joseph, just like Osamu, uses his brain over his brawn but that's where the similarities end. Whereas Joseph can think on the fly and incorporate mind boggling tricks to overcome his opponents, Osamu is absolutely horrendous at seizing the opportunity. Even when a weakness is presented, he himself cannot exploit it due to his own lack of ability, usually relying on Kuga to do it for him. But instead, he chooses to think what will happen an hour later rather than a few seconds. That's the true purpose of a strategist, a role he himself accepts and excels in especially during the Rank Wars Arc.

Overall, I can see why he is hated by many. I myself did not take a liking of Osamu until during the Rank Wars arc. As for the supporting characters, most of them are likeable for me to care with diverse enough personalities to tell them apart from one another. And when it comes to tactics, the supporting characters in WT are probably the best in shounen I've seen thus far.

7. Enjoyment

As stated at the start, I find myself enjoying this show more than I should have. While the cliffhangers and recaps can really take a toll on you, ignoring those two can give you a better enjoyment out of the spectacular battles especially during the Aftokrator and Rank Wars arc.

8. Overall

In conclusion, World Trigger the anime is bogged down with lazy production from Toei, dull character motivations and sometimes repetitive soundtrack but on the other side of that gate lies a battle shounen that if only became a little more popular could have risen a little higher among the shounen hierarchy. If you're the type that prefers fast paced plot progression and fights in the first few episodes, you won't get it in WT. But stick around further and it'll reward you with its "sometimes" spectacularly choreographed battles as well as its tactics oriented power system. When it comes to World Trigger and probably any good shounen, it's more about how to defeat the villain rather defeating the villain itself.

Despite its average score, World Trigger is a great anime that many people can and will enjoy. From lovable characters to actual story World Trigger has got it covered.

Story: Story is good, but it isn't to Shingeki no Kyojin. Though the story is average there are some really good plot twists and scenes that are unpredictable and interesting.

Art: The art is very mediocre, of course, do not let this stop you from watching it. Also, by mediocre I dont mean absolutely horrendous, just that it can be waaay more refined.

Sound: Sounds great. All sounds feel right in the place they are, thats all to ... say.

Character: I love each and every character, to the point the MC is ignored. Each character has their own traits and have their own enjoyable scenes. You'll like the characters for sure.

Enjoyment: I have enjoyed this anime through and through, from funny scenes to unexpected plot twists World Trigger hasn't failed to deliver a satisfactory amount.

Overall this anime is great, and you should try it out. It is easy to drop for the first few episodes, but if you got time to waste try it out and you may not regret it.

At first, I was off-put by the beginning of the show, as it was rather low-quailty and predictable. However, World Trigger quickly expanded and became much more enjoyable to watch after the first few arcs, combined with the animation becoming more average. The concept of the show is interesting to watch, and I found myself wanting to watch this for multiple reasons. From concepts such as dealing with being below average, avoiding regretful decisions, and just cool characters and fights, I would this is a great anime to start watching if you can't choose from your Plan to Watch list.
The story is interesting, and ... I know the animation ramps up for the 2021 seasons, so I'm pretty down to watch the season 2 and 3.

I started watching this anime with my little sister because we had nothing else to watch. She was pretty excited about it since she had already seen some of the episodes in the past but really I wasn't expecting much. After I watched the first episode, I wasn't hooked that much, I was just a little bit interested, and after watching a few more episodes, I still wasn't convinced yet if it was going to be good. I actually had a few problems with how things were proceeding in the story, I had some problems with the main character and really, it was partly my ... boy Yuma and partly the story as a whole that kept me going and now, after having watched the whole thing, I can say without a doubt that I have absolutely no regret watching World Trigger.

Dear god, I ended up loving that anime so, so much.

The anime kept me awake until 3 am for three days in a row, like I was so hooked (I started being hooked at episode 10 or so) and I just couldn't stop watching. The fights, the different triggers that exist, the characters, everything is great and I was excited throughout the whole thing.

The only things that bugged me at some moments, at many moments actually, were the two characters Osamu and Chika a little bit.

I didn't find Osamu(the MC) that great to be honest. In the beginning, I didn't care a lot about him. Like he is really weak and really I don't need him to be super powerful or anything, just sometimes I felt like he should be able to do more. I was just waiting for him to do something, to prove his worth and throughout the whole season I find him more useless than useful at times. He is indeed good at making strategies or something but other than that, he wasn't doing much to really impact me as a character. Though at the end it seems like he finally found a technique that will suit him a lot but that's to see in season 2.

Chika's kind of like Osamu. At first I wasn't paying much attention to her, she was just there always smiling (I find her face sometimes creepy to be honest) and what really started annoying me about her was the fact that she just has a tremendous amount of Trion power and everyone is always praising her because of this. Her huge amount of power was her only good point but even then, she still needed to improve herself in some areas, to develop her full potential but it seemed like she was not interested at all into doing that. The other characters are always shielding her and she didn't seem motivated at all to become stronger. Though just like the MC, it is only near the end of the season that she will finally find her way around but again, will see more of that in season 2.

Now concerning the other characters, I simply love them all. Really, this anime has so much characters, each having their own fighting style, their personality and it just adds so much dynamic to the story as a whole. It's really refreshing to watch and they are given just the right amount of screen time. It's amazing. I feel like everyone is developed just right. Sometimes we won't even see the three MCs and the battles will just focus on the other side characters and it's great to be honest. They're so entertaining.

Also, I like the fact that the fights are not the typical one vs one fights. In world trigger, there are multiple squads, each with their own rank, each with members using different weapons and having different abilities and it's so cool to see them all work together to fight one enemy. Since there are a variety of triggers, the fights are never boring and it just keeps on getting interesting and interesting. This is probably one of the thing that I love the most about the anime - how everyone despite their rank and squad will come together to fight the bad guys.

Moreover, the story, the trigger technology and powers, etc, are all really interesting. I like the mechanics and I think that it is a really good idea.

And one more thing, the filler arc (starting at episode 49 to 63), I watched the first two episodes and the final episode of the arc, skipping the middle entirely, and really, I simply have no idea why this thing even exists. The anime would have been better without any filler. It served no purpose at all. It just bugged me and just delayed the good stuff that was happening. You can watch it though.

Well, other than that, I love the anime. I recommend it. I HIGHLY recommend it. World Trigger became one of my favs and it's now just so precious to me. I'll admit that it has its ups and downs but still I think that it is really worth it.

Please the anime is so good but I'm pissed off AT Mikumo, what a useless coach, average strategist, I could accept if he is not powerful in physical strenght but has the highest I.Q that he can capitalize just like in Code Geass, but not just he is weak he is an average guy with so little Trion, I watched World trigger cause I saw YUma Kuga fight and he is Over power in his own way, but when I saw Mikumo, Man he is so useless, I get so irritated always. Chika has tons of Trion energy but also like Mikumo useless, why can't ... you make Chika a little braver and less STUPID!!, make her shoot without hesitation, she is so timid and useless also, PLEASE CHANGE MIKUMO AND CHIKA INTO SOMEONE BETTER. that would compliment with YUMA KUGA's Power and ability. I love World Trigger don't get me wrong I just dislike WEAKLING CHARACTER THAT HAS NO IMPROVEMENT LIKE MIKUMO AND CHIKA!!. THANK YOU.

If you have been watching anime, be it a few months or several years, you might be familiar with the Battle Shounen genre. Boasting the largest and most popular titles in modern anime/manga such as the Naruto, Bleach, Yu Yu Hakusho, My Hero Academia and so on, it goes without saying that their influence and presence over the medium is here to stay. At conventions, it is often the norm to see people break out into their favourite finishing moves, cosplay as their favourite characters, defend their favourite fights and moments vehemently. It is one of the foundations on which the modern industry is supported, ... serving as the channel of entry to new fans. I was also one such fan, starting my journey in the medium with Dragonball Z back in 2000, albeit lacking knowledge of anime at that point in time. And while my current attitude to the genre is cold to lukewarm at best, I won’t deny that it is close to my heart.

And why wouldn’t it be! Despite my changing taste, fights like Rock Lee vs Gaara, Kenshin vs Saito, Yusuke vs Toguro and so on, are moments that I revisit from time to time, indulging in a sense of nostalgia that only this genre offers. These characters and their struggles feal real enough, despite being in different worlds or time periods and I can’t help but egg them on as they strive to achieve their potential and personal goals. With all that said, the genre is not free from flaws. While it might be filled with great moments, the lead up to a lot of them, often tend to be underwhelming. Crumbling under the weight of bloated casts, which only keeps on increasing as the series goes on and resorting to cheap resolutions in the form of power of friendship or power creeps which render existing threats, toothless. It is a genre which has had no sense of direction and innovation since the late 90s (exceptions do exist as is always the case) and people who have known me long wouldn’t help but agree with my disdain for the genre due to the aforementioned reasons.

Enter World Trigger, the focus of our review today. World trigger is set in Mikado City, where an organisation named Border must protect the city and its inhabitants from visitors from another world, aptly called neighbours. These neighbours are here to kidnap the residents in order to fuel their own economies and society in the other world. It is up to Border and its employees to stop them and ensure life continues as normal. The story focuses on three main characters, as they fight and grow in the organisation and strive to achieve their goals. Stock standard battle Shounen as they come.

Where it differs from other BS is in terms of how it approaches the whole world vs characters dichotomy. While the characters are the main focus of the series, the world is an overwhelming presence and the cast must keep that in mind as they navigate around Border. The series maintains a level of mystery to it and we along with the cast are offered titbits of information at appropriate times, which enriches our knowledge of the world and its systems, without overwhelming us with aforementioned information. The cast and us, the viewers, then have to process this new information and adjust our understanding of the world. And in that, it is very reminiscent of how Oda, of One Piece fame, presents the world to us, the viewer/reader.

World trigger also offers a rather grounded power system, unlike its other Battle Shounen counterparts. The power system is called trion and functions somewhat similar to other systems like Ki or Chakra, in that, there is a finite amount and it requires time to recharge it. Unlike the other two, the big differentiator here is not how large the trion reserves are, but rather how efficiently it is used to meet combat goals. And I say combat, because that is how the series approaches conflict. Not a lot of silly 1v1s centred around pride and showboating, but rather conflict with respect to principles of strategy, implemented through astute tactics. It is not out of the ordinary to see concepts like staggered columns, defeat in detail, supply chains, logistics, combined arms, etc rendered in a Shounen mold. Series like Naruto alluded to it, but World Trigger fully embraces it and I can’t help but admire it for that.

On the cast itself, the trio (Mikumo, Kuga and Chika) are like any upstarts trying to make it big in their world. Their motives are not as ambitious as leads of yesteryear Shounen series, but is still admirable. They are a likeable bunch and I can’t help but support them as they aim to achieve their goals. The series also boasts a large supporting cast, as is the case with a series focused on the world building side of things. I was pleasantly surprised in terms of how it managed to flesh out the supporting cast and make them damn likeable. They were individuals in their own right and were not presented only to be undermined by the lead trio. Reveals of the world also affects them and impacts their own personal equations and this is only bound to be richer as time goes on. The series is also not afraid to show what really is the top of the world, in terms of power. We, the viewers know what to expect from the lead trio once they reach the top. Just smacks of confidence from the creator and I can’t help but appreciate that. The character dynamics is great and love how the characters bounce off each other.

Honestly, I could go on for hours why I love the cast and world, but that would make this review too unwieldy. So, let’s move onto the shortcomings of season 1. While this was technically a rewatch, I won’t deny that the earlier episodes are somewhat of a challenge to get through for someone new to the series. The series takes a lot of time in setting up its world and characters and that might irk a lot of people. It also doesn’t do any favours that the art and animation is underwhelming. This series is an example of Toei at its absolute worst. Often spending 3-4 minutes in recaps of the previous episodes and having the opening at weird times, be prepared for a tough start. However, the good writing kicks in and would only make the ride even more enjoyable. The music is serviceable, without being tiring. Oh, and do skip 49-63, which were fillers. They don’t add anything to the story and does everything that the series isn’t about.

With that said, I’m glad I got around to rewatch the series and derive so much enjoyment from it. Hope you, the readers of this review will get the same. And for people who have already seen s1, go on ahead to read my reviews of the subsequent seasons!

World Trigger.... what can I say? For starters, this is a great anime that at first glance looks like a show that you should drop due the amount of episodes and lackluster art. I will have to say, yes the episode count is daunting and the art is not up to the standards of most anime you probably have watched, but I feel like when you get past that, you will really enjoy it.

Addressing the art, I will have to say that it does ... improve later on, but if you can see through that too the great characters, plot, and battles, you most likely will start going to the next episode without hesitation. The large episode count doesn't matter either because every episode feels needed and filled with greatness, but there is a filler arc that some people do not enjoy.

The characters of this story are very compelling and stick to their morals and main goals throughout the entire story, improving on themselves in a very human way.

This is only a part of what this anime has to offer, I suggest actually watching it to be able to fully experience it!

Good story, wasted on an mc like osuma though. You can replace him with literally any B-rank and they'd still be more useful and less whiny. He's like an Amuro and Sakura combined into the ultimate disliked character. He gets like 90% of the screen time too, then they hit you with flashbacks from literally one episode ago. Once you make it out of the invasion arc I think you should be good...

I like how they focused on introducing and keeping around a bunch of characters. I found that pretty neat that we get to know their backgrounds and what-not's to a perfect extent.
