JoJo no Kimyou na Bouken Part 3: Stardust Crusaders

JoJo no Kimyou na Bouken Part 3: Stardust Crusaders is one of the worst anime that has been made (in my opinion) for two main reasons, it is super repetitive and overhyped. For the repetitive part, I usually don't mind if an anime is repetitive by ARC because at least they add something new. One example is Alabasta Arc and Dressrosa Arc from One Piece. Both have the same formula of story but they have aspects that are unique to each other but here in Trash-I mean JoJo it is repetitive by EPISODE. They will encounter a Stand user that came out of nowhere, without ... proper build up. The main characters will fight them for 24 minutes, defeat them and that's it and the show does not even make it interesting. It's on par with ecchi/romance anime in terms of cringeness.

Naruto or Bleach fillers are more well written than this. Hametsu no Mars is way more entertaining than this. A generic isekai is way more refreshing than this. The only reason to watch this anime is for the memes. Other than that it is an utter waste of precious time.

We're gonna talk about the most important aspect of the anime, the character designs. The character designs are nothing special, we got the characters in different nationalities, a stereotypical indian/egyptian/whatever, some retired indiana jones wannabe, and a main character that ripped off assets from kenshiro with an edgy twist, everything is in dark bleak and bland colors like we need anymore of those outside of blockbuster puke. Now let's get to the main point. Right off the bat we are introduced with the characters, and what the series is best known for. For every character whom for some reason gets no explanation whatsoever, they happen ... to be able to wield super powers! What they basically do is use spirits out of their bodies to fight enemies in their stead and they are called "stands", hmm where have I seen this before? Oh right, THE FRIGGIN PERSONA SERIES?

Jesus christ I was facefdesking the desk so hard right when I saw the main character whom have the worst name to exist in a shounen series ever, when he tried too hard trying to be cool and edgy copying the persona 3 characters by shooting a gun in their head, except persona actually have cool characters. Not only that but he curb-stomps every enemy in the anime like they are nothing. Where is the fun in that? Some fight scenes were neat to be fair, ones that actually used strategies rather than pure powerlevel, like that ugh... Jo-J-J-Gaaaaah! I would've had like this show better if that awful character didn't exist since I did not mind the other characters at all despite have almost no substance save for 1 character.

Just when you thought they couldn't have ripped off persona even further, all the enemies here have tarot card motifs. WHAT. Yes, it goes all the way from magician to the world cards but here in doesn't work because the supposed "stands" don't even have anything to do with the corresponding tarots while in persona, the tarot cards are used to reflect the character's personality. Might as well use constellation names if they're going to be relevant if at all.

In some episodes, we get to see the big bad's supposed "all according to evil plan" scene, but all he does is sit his ass all day while he dispatches the bad guys to do the dirty work for him, I keep thinking I'm watching a Saturday morning cartoon for some reason! So yes, the whole show is also an episodic one at that and the only plot line is them getting to the big bad, that's it.

"But AzuriteMal", Stardust Crusaders came out in 1989 while the first persona came out in 1996". Oh that is simple, let me educate you my dear boy. You see, Persona is part of the megaten series, and megaten came out in 1987, megaten = persona, therefore persona = megaten. What year is that? *gasp* no way, now you know?

I did kinda like how the title stays true to its name with having a real sense of adventure since they travel from Japan to Egypt and such. Most of the setting are like what I'd imagine them to be so that's a plus. Music started good like they keep up the tense of the scene, but it got repetitive hearing the same thing over and over again like a JRPG battle theme. Someone said that there will be an epic fight scene in the 2nd season but I'm not holding my breath since I'm not a fan of episodic anime. I got better things to catch up to.

Recommendations
- Persona series: both are very similar, very dark, better characters, makes you think.
- Berserk: It's still darker and more gar than this.

I was so disappointed in this sequel to the first couple arcs I felt compelled to write a review. It would have gotten a few more points if it wasn't totally overshadowed by it's predecessor. So let's go make a list of reasons why this is a total disappointment.

Reason 1: Concept. For some reason, they went in a totally different direction of the established universe and decided to make it some kind of manly Digimon-type anime. Not as cool as it sounds. Remember those cool martial arts fights with Ripple energy? Yeah, that's essentially gone.

Reason 2: The ... characters. No depth at all. And you might be thinking, "but it's one of those manly type animes, they don't have to be deep." Watch some Fist of the North Star. Hell, watch the prequel to this piece of crap again. There might of been two or three scenes in an entire 24 episodes that gave me some kind of investment or feeling towards the characters. Additionally, Joseph Joestar. While I thought he wasn't as cool as Jonathan, he was pretty damn cool and actually had a personality. Not to mention he had wile and guile in spades enough so to defeat nearly omniscient beings that had lived for over a millennia. He makes a return as a grandpappy in this season and apparently old age has addled his brains because he's more often that not a liability the whole show. The only thing I ever had to look forward to from Joseph was his comic relief shticks of screaming "OH NO," "OH SHIT," and "OH MY GOD," in English which is probably the most enjoyable part of this show.

Reason 3: Length. They drag this shit out so far. Let's compare. Prequel, they essentially go through two story arcs and 2 generations of Joestars in the same number of episodes. This show, they got to Egypt. IT'S HALF A FUCKING STORY ARC. I was so hopeful. I enjoyed the prequel so much that I struggled to get through this. I'm like, "it's okay, this happens. I'll just get through this and next season will be better, I'm sure of it." Imagine my growing sense of dread as I come to realize that the next season is more of this. But you know what, I'm going to watch it anyway because I liked the first installment so much. I'm really going to try and see where this goes.

I could keep going but those are my main complaints without going off on tangents about every little thing. Plus my disappointment has drained me so I'm going to get ready to steel myself and begin the next half of this travesty. Good luck to us all.

Wow what an overrated shit show, considering how popular this series is I'm shocked at how bad this is. I'm not talking about the entire JJBA Franchise because I loved the 1st season and I'm expecting future seasons to be better but if the rest of Jojo's Bizarre Adventure is like Stardust Crusaders I will be left wondering why tf this show is so popular. I gave 1 point for great animation because visually the show is stunning and 1 point for creativity because all the stands are interesting and cool but besides those 2 aspects I would have given this a 1 out of ... 10.

The main problem with this season is there is absolutely 0 plot progression, yeah I know the main point is to defeat Dio and save Jotaro's mom but that isn't enough for a 48 episode show! Hopefully Battle In Egypt is better but I'm not expecting a huge improvement though I will attempt to watch it.

Also Jotaro is one of the most boring main characters i've ever witnessed what a pointless man. There is nothing interesting about him he's a big macho man with a cool outfit that's it. I'm starting to think this whole show is just about looking pretty while having no substance.

I really hope this season is the worst this anime has to offer because I want to like it but there has to be something real to like. I feel like since this is such a historic series starting in the 1980s I have to watch this as a huge anime fan but I can't take much more of this. Future seasons please be better.

Introduction

The consensus from a typical Jojo fan seems to be that Part 3 and beyond are the better parts of the story. However, as a new viewer to the franchise it seems completely the opposite to me. Part 1 & 2 were SIGNIFICANTLY better in terms of characters, the personality of the show, the intrigue it brought with the time periods, the mysteries of “Hamone”.

In Jojo part 3 the author decided to completely bury “Hamone” and pretend as best as possible it doesn’t exist, only referencing it when necessary, and pivoting to the new “stands” gimmick. It was poorly done, and this is where the ... problems begin.

From what I understand reading about it online the author when he was writing this series in the 80s/90s decided after writing Parts 1 & 2 that the powers his characters use are too similar to all other manga at the time thus he replaced “Hamone” with “Stands” and the popularity of the manga only increased after the change so I guess that speaks for itself.

However, from my view it is just lazy. Instead of planning the world and the powers his characters have and their limits from the beginning he seems to make it up as he goes and we end up with many continuity problems, power spiking and power regression. Not to mention the awful writing.

TL; DR

“Hamone” was removed from the story hastily and poorly, instead of combining it with “Stands” or giving an explanation to why it isn’t utilised anymore it is simply ignored. Even though it is still applicable in many situations Joseph encounters. This nonsense completely breaks my suspension of disbelief alone, there is no reason he should not use his powers.

Lisa Lisa is never mentioned again even though she could reasonably still be alive because of Hamone. Also, Joseph never asks for help from other Hamone masters to defeat Dio again? Surely he would be introduced to some by his Mother.

Then there is story continuity, Irina floated to safety from the ship wreck (Pt 1) on Dio’s coffin and Jonathon stopped Dio from stealing his body once and made sure he died in the wreck. Yet Dio managed to steal his body anyways, and somehow find the coffin again. That’s impossible, there isn’t a reasonable explanation for this other than “Unreliable Narrator” which means the Author changed his mind. Lazy writing.

The entirety of this cour of the anime barely advances the plot, every episode follows the same formula. Group is travelling to Egypt; they notice some strange stuff but ignore it and then they get surprise attacked by an enemy! Then either a single character is chosen to fight them, or the group does as a team and they win and travel a little farther. Also, if the single character is Jotaro he just waits until things look rough and then says, “good grief/gimme a break, I already won” and then haha Star platinum go brrrrr. Repeat this for 24 episodes.

Stands & Hamone

Did stands always exist? Where were they in Part 1 & 2? Why does the Joestar family (and Dio) receive stands because of Dio’s resurrection? “magic” I guess. Also, the narrative seems to imply stands came into existence once Dio was resurrected. At least nothing says otherwise.

Why does Joseph not combine “Hamone” and “Hermit Purple”? In Pt. 2 Joseph was likely one of the most powerful “Hamone” users alive (natural talent untrained). He killed 2 pillar men in solo combat and a 3rd evolved one (albeit mostly by luck). Joseph should be as powerful as Jotaro or more if he combined his Hamone and his Stand. Remember Hamone is a do-everything ability, you can heal yourself, walk on water, attack through objects etc…

What happened to Lisa Lisa? It’s impossible she died. She looked like she was in her late 20s when she was 50, and Ton Petty was incredibly old. She should still be alive thanks to her incredible Hamone energy.

Furthermore, what happened to other Hamone users? Lisa Lisa knew many masters of Hamone and trained with Straizo and others, surely there are new master “Hamone” users. Why does Joseph not call on them for aid? Surely his mother introduced him to her friends/mentors.

Continuity Issues / Unexplained Issues

How did Dio survive? Jonathon made certain he'd die along with him, that was the point of his sacrifice. Also, Irina floated to safety in Dio's coffin, how would it end up back in the ocean close enough that Dio found it and he took control of Jonathon's body even after a previous failed attempt?
This all makes no sense.

What happened to the remaining stone masks? There were dozens in the Mexico chamber where Santana was asleep. What about where the others slept surely there were more? Did the speed wagon foundation destroy them all? It wasn’t stated if so. Seems a silly oversight. The only masks explicitly destroyed were the one Dio used to transform and the one Kars used to transform.

Santana is still alive, where is he? He is shown in E14 of Part 1 (~4:30 or so). Why did he not become the next villain? Surely Joseph knows he is still alive too, Robert would have told him. Did he go back and finish the job? Is he still in the laboratory? I thought he must be the next villain for Pt. 3 but nope guess not.

The show is written so poorly that instead of utilising tactics and interesting story telling to create conflicts enemies simply throw themselves at the group as they travel to defeat Dio. Every episode is the same thing, go somewhere overlook something obvious or strange and then OH NO we're under attack by the enemy!

The most frustrating part of this is the set-up is always the same. One-character notices something strange or discovers something but decides it's not suspicious enough or whatever and keeps the info to themselves. Or one character gets attacked the others realise something is odd and they take their sweet time to find the missing person and by the time they do they've already defeated their adversary! How convenient that they had all that time to show off their solo fighting skills.

Any battle that involves Jotaro is the same, he waits until things look dire and then pulls out the "good grief/gimme a break, I've already won" line and he just punches the enemy until their dead. haha Star Platinum go brrrrrrr!
When an anime is entirely centred around cool fights, I expect the fights to be interesting, full of tactics, interesting situations and environments. Not a group of idiots that can’t come to the realisation that anything suspicious should be suspicious.

Lastly, Jotaro's character development is awful. The only difference from the episode we meet him and the final one is he has finally accepted the fact that the people he is travelling with are not so bad. His entire character is just being a tough guy. Even caring for his family is not a development, it was made clear he already does care when he noticed his Mother didn't say goodbye to him when she fell sick in the first 2 episodes, so there wasn't any development there either.

Jojo Pt 3 is a huge downgrade from part 1 & 2. The author wrote himself into a corner, how can you top the pillar men? I guess he had no choice but to make a nonsensical decision like bringing Dio back and killing off “Hamone”. Why not just write a new manga at that point, it would probably have been easier and made a better story.

I’ll probably watch the next cour since I’ve committed this far to at least see what happens to Dio first hand but I have no hope left for this franchise. It’s incredibly overrated and consists of below average writing therefore I give a final score of 3/10 to reflect its utter mediocrity.

First ~10 seconds of the OP Animation & music is pretty great. I loved seeing
Jonathon and Joseph in their primes and the animation quality there was pretty epic. Rest of it wasn't as exciting though LOL.

The ED was pretty great too, I loved the clap transition and the way the animation went with the music.

The special edit of the OP for the final episode with the extra SFX was pretty epic. However, I sadly just didn't care at this point. But it was a great idea.

JoJo returns with a third part and much like the first two, this one is also boring as hell. Araki proves yet again to the world that he really is just living in the moment and uncapable of producing anything of substance whatsoever.

Jotaro is an incredibly boring character and in earnest, for all of the "wowzah-bowzah, so epic, he be just like Clint Eastwood when he be pointin' da fingah,"-esque discourse, I'd argue that Jotaro is one of the blandest protagonists in manga/anime for years. Chadwick Boseman (God bless him and may he rest in peace) said it best: 'Aw hell naw, Karen! Keep ... your bland-ass potato salad to yourself!'” Indeed, indeed. Keep your bland-ass crappy stories to yourself, Araki. I've said it in another review and I'll say it again: leave your bubble and actually experience works for adults, anon. You can do better than this kind of series. You are worth it.

Where do i even start? jojos is the worst shit ever.It really seems like a completely different show. I keep wanting to go back and finish up Stardust Crusaders (I'm on about episode 31), but I truly cannot stomach the terrible writing and disappointing attempts at jokes. If I could straight up murder Polnareff, I would, in a heartbeat. And then take a shit on his grave. And then take a shit on his dead sisters grave.

To say nothing of Iggy. I fucking love dogs, man, but dont make him goddamn fart in Polnareffs face in every fucking interaction with him! It is not ... funny! It is not entertaining! It is just lazy, shitty writing. Fuck you, iggy. You probably die somewhere down the line, and I'll still be sad because dogs are great. But even so, fuck you.

On top of that, why in the absolute fuck did they get rid of hamon? That shit was fine! Stands are bullshit! Where did they come from? Why did they not exist before and now are fucking ubiquitous? Why do they have such bullshit fluid rules about what they are and what they can do?

On top of THAT, why is this show now a 100% 'enemy of the week' type format? Who thought that would be a good idea for 50 fucking episodes? On top of THAT, Fuck you, I'm upset that this show that I really enjoyed seems to have become such a shitshow. On top of THAT, fuck you too, guy or girl who is reading this. Just because. My dissappointment and polnareff loathing knows no bounds. Honest question, how can you like Jonathan better than Joseph? To me Jonathan suffers from the same problem as Jotaro in SC in which he is just too perfect. Jonathan is that perfect gentleman who is incredibly strong and manages to master Hamon much quicker than his teacher. Not to say that he doesn't develop really, Although I might argue that most of his development is when he is depicted as a kid, he seems to be pretty firm in his character as an adult.

But to me, Joseph in Battle Tendency was just fucking amazing. I loved Joseph's imperfections. I loved how, clearly he was a strong dude given his build, but he was definitely not stronger than most of the enemies he faced, and he managed to use his wit to defeat them. Personally I'm a sucker for David vs Goliath type battles and Part 2 was just full of them. Also his character just seemed much more entertaining. Jonathan Joestar is such a standard anime character to me, he's your average superman, the most basic of the heroes. Joseph is wacky and perverted but also serious and caring. I just feel like I can relate to him so much more.
Enemy of the week got so tiring, I agree. It's the reason SDC is my least favorite part so far; 1 and 2 felt like a single story, and each week we saw some progression and it was good. But with p3, it felt like it lied about being a single story, instead becoming super episodic until pretty late on.

The first few episodes weren't too bad; after all, they were just introducing the characters, so it's fine if the plot doesn't move too fast. But then progression just, stopped. If I'd known it'd be like this, and approached it like Cowboy Bebop, simply looking for highs within the episodes plot, I think SDC would've been a lot more enjoyable for me.

With anime, episodic shows only seem to be a problem when people expect them to be serial. In comparison with part 3, DiU has also been episodic, but no one expected anything else. For that (and many other reasons) part 4 seems to've been better received; at least, I've loved it completely so far.
I can totally see why someone would not enjoy Stardust Crusaders. It has a radically different style from parts 1 and 2, it follows a very generic monster of the week formula, and many of the fights tend to be very forgettable.

Jotaro was meant to be a "Clint Eastwood-esque character" but I had a hard time liking him because each episode with him basically boiled down to:

Part 1 of the arc: Villain talks mad shit to Jotaro

Part 2 of the arc: Jotaro beats the ever loving shit out of them.

I just don't feel like he lives up to the Jojo name as well as the previous ones, and honestly I feel like a lot of his popularity comes from his awesome design. He's Part 4 Spoilers In essence, he's a fun character, but tends to suck out any tension in the series. I found I had far more fun when the arc was following Polnareff/Avdol/Joseph than him, and that's kind of lame.

I'd actually have to disagree with you on Polnareff. He's easily my favorite character from part 3, because he's not perfect, and he's a goofball. His stand is interesting, all his fights are neat, and he goes through a broad array of emotions unlike some of the other characters. He has a great character arc throughout the series, and honestly he's just a fun dude.
Look SDC isnt really that good. IT has boring stand users, slow as hell plot and a weak MC jojo for most of its time. it really doesnt become good until the group reaches a certain city where the bad guy is. Up until then the show feels like it is just stalling for time. This couldve been like 10 episodes shorter and have a much more fast pacing. instead the anime wanted to adapt basically everything in the manga and we are left with a really slow progression.

jotaro as i said is not a interesting MC. He isnt as honorable as jonothen or as clever as Joseph which doesnt necessary make him bad but what does is is mary stu tendancies. For all intense and purposed hes perfect, perfect stand, perfect physique, perfect personality that everyone else wants to have, and a really high intelligence. He honestly doesnt seem like he needs the others as they seem to be causing more harm then good. But thats just my opinion I do like jotaro just not as a MC as a side character hes actaully pretty enjoyable.

Agreed on the hamon though I do see why he would change it as ahaki wanted to create his own thing the fact hes just flat out ignored it entirely is kinda bad IMO. Like he couldve made hamon and stands have a similar relationship to magic and science in a certain magical index. Nope the last of the hamonians are gonna die with a certain person.
Personally I actually agree with you on every single point. Stardust crusaders to me actually felt like literary garbage. The show is mostly Polnareff's retarded adventures, because they made Jotaro such a perfect infallible character that if he had most of the screen time there would be little to no suspense in the series at all. It feels so cheap and easy that the series uses Polnareff's idiocy to make things seem suspenseful. Adding to this, why the fuck are they always splitting up. It literally makes no sense. I understand if they ever split up to search for something and cover more ground, but they constantly act like this search for Dio is some sort of vacation in which they can constantly just be splitting up for the smallest and dumbest of reasons. Even though they must clearly be aware that Dio is constantly sending stand users to them. It actually drives me insane.

And then let's not gloss over what I said about Jotaro being this infallible monster of an MC that literally never falters, wavers, or displays any possible chance of failure. It's actually crazy to me how much he manages to accomplish with no explanation to his great ability other than him being the main character of Part 3. It was such a bummer to see Joseph Joestar in Part 2, using his wit to cleverly take down his foes in a David vs Goliath type situation, and then switch to Part 3 where Jotaro is basically Goliath with David's intelligence.

Fuck man I hate it too it took me forever to wade through the garbage that was part 3. But I'll be honest with you, the show is very good in a week by week format. I had to watch the first season of SC when the episodes were all out and I hated it. But for the second season I actually was watching it week by week and it was pretty fun to watch because of the format. Although it was not any less bullshit.

Part 4 is noticeably better in my opinion, especially because the main character is not the perfect snowflake that Jotaro is, and Jotaro makes a bunch better mentor than a main character. But to be honest I am starting to enjoy part 4 less and less. I'm sure people here are gonna get your hopes up about it but I'll be honest, we are 14 episodes in now and there's still no real story yet. Maybe it gets one later but there is actually no goal right now for the main character and his friends. It's basically just watching them on a day by day basis seeing what other stand users they will encounter that day.

Aaaaanyways, fuck part 3. It's a sack of bullshit and I want you to watch the final fight with Dio and then come back here and make another post because I'm sure that shit will make you complain too. I still get into arguments with my friend about that fight because of how much it frustrates me.

TLDR: Like all of JoJo, don't go into it expecting this amazing plot with amazing characters. JoJo is
just a bunch of WTF is happening, mixed with over the top violence and BS plot twists that tricks you into thinking its a 10/10 story when in fact it's mostly just @$$pulls but since it's JoJo and it's wonky we accept it because why not.

Part 3 suffers mostly due from having a boring MC and it's length. Also, I personally don't like the villain of the week format that JoJo adapts from this point forward.

Stardust Crusaders S1 is ok I guess. Just like Part 2, Joseph carried this one for me personally. He's still as wonky and quirky as ever, if not even more so than when he was younger, the fact that he can go from idiotic goofball to wise old man from one scene to the next was fun to watch and seeing his interactions with the supporting cast was great. I'll even go as far as to say that Joseph is also the MC of Part 3 since the whole reason Part 3 is happening is because of his orders. He's the one who wants to recruit Jotaro, He's the one who Dio needs in order to become "complete", he's the one who's carrying on the will of Johnathan to end Dio's evil, Jotaro by comparison is kinda just there being the silent edge lord punching the sh*t out of everything, and granted while Jotaro has a reason to go on this quest too, Joseph just feels like he had more going on this than Jotaro, personally.

That being said the supporting cast was cool, from Kakyoiin and Polnareff to Advol and Iggy. Each supporting character has their own moment to become the "lead" at one point or another and it's interesting to see them actually get development in those mini arcs or episodes since for the most part they're just sitting in the background until they need to be saved or save someone.

My biggest issue with Part 3 is the villain of the week format that makes the story feel episodic in nature and as someone who isn't a fan of episodic anime (aside from Gintama), I was not invested in this story at all. You could skip a good chunk of episodes and you really won't miss much of anything in the grand scheme of things, not that i'm saying you should skip episodes, just saying it felt that way. From this point forward JoJo incorporates Stand Battles which while cool, feels a lot more tamed in Part 3 compared to how broken and out there some abilities are in Part 4 and on. Of course with Stand battles, comes a bunch over the top violence and gore that does nothing for me personally but if you're into that then there ya go.

Jotaro also has the disadvantage of being the JoJo to follow after Joseph, who is the most entertaining of all the JoJos. Jotaro's character can be summed up by Ora Ora Ora and that's about it. He doesn't have much development and aside from looking and acting cool, Jotaro doesn't offer much until the very end where he faces of against Dio and we see Jotaro deviate from his usual strategy of PUNCH STUFF and if that doesn't work then he move on to his second strategy of PUNCH STUFF HARDER. He actually manages to pull off some pretty cool feats and it was a nice breath of fresh air. The ending of the Dio fight i actually liked a lot. At first it seems like an a$$pull but once you look at Jotaro as a character, or lack of, it actually makes a lot of sense. He basically did what he did due to his stubbornness and out of sheer will power and I liked that a lot.

Okay, so I don't have much to say other than I was waiting for JoJo to get better and it didn't. If anything, it got worse because everything that I already didn't like about the series ended up getting dragged out in the form of unnecessary filler.

Story (1/10): The story is about as straightforward as it can get. Our heroes must band together and defeat the villain.

But what this entire season amounts to is the Monster of the Day formula of the 90s. I think someone forgot to inform them that the format doesn't work in 2014 because everyone is binging just about every anime ... online.

All it's missing are some magical girl transformations to pad out an extra 2 minutes to save on budget.

I joke, but I don't. By the end of 24 episodes, it seriously feels like our heroes aren't any closer to reaching their goal.

Why did I waste my time then?!

Episodes to watch if you really want to, but you also want to skip the nonsense: 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 10, 11, 21, 22

Character (1/10): Okay, so the characters of both Phantom Blood and Battle Tendency weren't anything special, but at least I can try and justify their flatness by the fact that they didn't have a ton of episodes to tell their story.

This season doesn't get that excuse.

With 24 episodes dedicated only to building up the great battle ahead, you have Joseph (old man America still negatively impacted by his portrayal from the previous season), Avdol (your generous helping of at least 22 stereotypes), Kakyroin (emotionally constipated Japanese uniform), Jotaro (power fantasy who mistreats the weak), and Polnareff (overly impulsive fashion disaster).

All of these characters come out at the end of the season the same way they went in. Instead of taking their time building the characters, they basically slammed these characters together and then decided to follow with their Monster of the Day format.

That's it. That's all this season is.

It's also Jotaro being a broken record with three sentences that basically amount to calling women bitches, variants of "shut up" or "you're annoying me", and "good grief."

Art (6/10): The art is still what you would expect from season one. There aren't any major updates to the animation or style.

Sound (8/10): The background soundtrack was actually quite nice going into this season, so my recommendation is to save yourself some time and listen to the music without the series attached.

TL;DR: If you must watch this season, only catch the episodes I listed above, duck out of the Monster of the Day nonsense, skip right to the last 11 episodes of Stardust Crusaders, then use the time you'll be saving to watch a better show.

Trust me when I say that you will have missed nothing important.

People will get mad for this so I’ll explain.

It’s very VERY hard to make me bored of a show, I mean, I sat through all 90 or so episodes of filler at the end of naruto (2002).

This show bored me to tears, the characters were uninteresting, the story felt like a filler arc, the fandom made me want to commit mass genocide, and did I mention it was boring? It’s SO BORING! I couldn’t watch more than 10 episodes of this shit! I was dying of boredom!

Story: 1/10
I’ve mentioned it many times in the last paragraph so you probably already know what I’m ... going to say. It’s boring, of course it is. Every episode is so formulaic. They travel to a certain location so they can get to Egypt, and then a stand user sent by appears. They fight the stand user and win, rinse and repeat for 10 episodes. I honestly don’t know nor care if this gets better in the future, what I saw was hell.

Art: 7/10
I won’t lie, the art is good. I have always liked the art style of Jojo, it’s indisputably good. The animation is also pretty good considering how detailed and hard to animate these characters must be.

Sound: 8/10
What can I say, David productions knows how to make sound effects. This and Fire Force prove that. The voice acting and openings are great too. Not the biggest fan of the endings but they aren’t terrible.

Characters: 2/10
It may be this shows age showing but most of the characters are painfully generic. Joseph is still good but that’s because he always was. Jotaro is annoyingly generic with his “badass silent protagonist” type attitude, and I can barely remember any of the other characters main traits. They just were that forgettable. All I remember is they were all enemies turned allies which is pretty cliche but I haven’t minded some other dynamics like this.

Enjoyment: 1/10
I had one hell of a bad time watching this show. I’ve mentioned how boring it was way too many times already but it’s not just that. Right around the time I started battle tendency, two of my friends got into jojo. They both promised not to be THAT kind of jojo fan but alas, my hopes were dashed. I had multiple other friends in a bunch of discord servers I was in who also were mad that I disliked this show. It got so annoying that any tiny chance I might’ve had to pick this show back up was erased. I’m the kind of person that will stay far away from anything that’s shoved down my throat. That’s why I haven’t finished aot yet.

Some stuff like art and sound bring this show up a tier. I won’t lie, David productions is adapting the hell out of this series. Im pretty frustrated that this part is as bad as it is. I’ve heard that the second half isn’t as bad and part 4 looks like something I’d really enjoy. Although, I know skipping parts is a bad idea and I don’t know if I’ll every manage to get past this shithole. I guess we’ll see in the future.

Season 1: Episodes 1-24: To quote Jotaro, "Good grief." What the hell happened to this show? I don't want to complain too much about the idea of "Stands" replacing Harmon too much, but I definitely preferred everything about Harmon and the amount of focus it got in the first half whereas these Stands come out of nowhere and make Harmon essentially useless since a "Stand can only be defeated by another Stand". While I could get behind the idea of Stands being the new Harmon, what I can't get behind is how formulaic the episodes in this arc are. It devolved from this super epic ... hero's journey with over-the-top theatrics from its villains only to be outdone by the over-the-top heroics or flamboyance (in Joseph Joestar's case) to a formulaic 'monster of the week" anime with a new JoJo who has a really dull personality and uses Charlie Brown's "Good Grief" catchphrase. It has it's moments since some of the Stands are interesting, but for the most part, this season is the embodiment of the Shonen anime that my brother loves and I can't stand. Over-the-top fights, lots of talking, and the characters taking turns winning for a bit before the good guys end up victorious. The first two parts almost seemed satirical with its presentation whereas this just takes itself way too seriously in most instances... with the exception of some of the memes. Like that cherry tongue licking lelelelelelelelelelelele lol!

And OHMUHGODT! How could I forget the biggest sin of this season? I am a HUGE fanatic of The Bangles! So I naturally got excited when they featured "Walk Like an Egyptian" as the closing song even though I absolutely adore how they utilized Yes' "Roundabout" which made the show feel like a western at times. Their sin was that they cut out the best verse of the song, the part where Susanna Hoff sings and then does her iconic side glance during the chorus that stole the heart of this hopelessly romantic weaboo.

4/10 This season wasn't all bad, but I don't like that the majority of the episodes just feel like filler. The Stands they fight are just obstacles that prevent our heroes from inevitably making it to the final goal of fighting Dio. Also, why is every single evil Stand so cocky and insistent on torturing the heroes instead of just killing them? There are so many times where Polnareff, in particular, should have been killed but was spared just because the enemy Stands felt the need to explain their power. I know this happened a bit in the first part, but it is excessive how often it happens in this show and it's really irritating to see. And again, why do the Stands appear one by one? Dio had no issue with sending a bunch of people to kill JoJo in part 1. Why do his minions feel the need to be so honorable now? Why not just kill them and earn Lord Dio's favor? I'm hoping part 2 gets more exciting once they finally make it to Egypt and they get to fight Dio.

Note: I rank part 3 of jojo (both seasons) independently, no other parts are taken into account.

I am not the biggest fan of stands, and I wished that Joseph would use his ripples/hamon a bit more. This part wasn’t utilized very well, I can tell that the battles weren’t meant for anime, as they were usually extremely awkward, with way too much explaining how certain extremely specific stands work, as opposed to taking action and actually fighting. As-well as starting fights in public spaces with no regard for how any of the bystanders would react to these men shouting at each other while fighting ... and using their invisible stands.

The story was also dragged out for way too long, and while some episode’s are able to stand on their own, few of the characters become important, and character deaths from both protagonists and antagonists feel unimpactfull and almost feels like filler. The plot-twists are either way too predictable, or they are way too stupid. The ending was also not very satisfactory in my opinion.

I loved the adaptation of jojo that was made in 2003 way more. And I would recommend checking that out instead, if you haven't already.

When I think of the Jojos franchise the first thing that comes in my mind is "boring"
This shit is boring just boring.
There are many reasons for that.

First: incredibly repetitive, the plot is just a bunch of fight every damn episode until they find the main villain

Second: The plot is absolute garbage. The best way to describe this franchise is by saying that its like its written by a 12 year old or something

Third: The characters are really boring and generic. 99% of the characters are just onefaced and generic with really really boring and bad development

Fourth: The fights. They are the worst kind of ... fights there can be in anime. Slow, predictable, uninteresting, don't make sense and are interrupted by commentary.

Overall i suggest u to watch this if u want to go to sleep or something cause this shit is hot garbage
