Choboraunyopomi Gekijou Ai Mai Mii

I'm giving this anime a 6 because the story isn't really in 'depth'. It's basically just about a bunch of girls in a manga club. It involves comedy, and makes me chuckle sometimes. If you want a anime that will make you feel like you just did pot, then watch this. If not, then watch something else.

Story:
With no real narrative, the next thing to respond to when it comes to story is the comedy, and I can admit that there were times where I laughed out loud. It's very strange, incredibly so, and that's what makes this so hilarious. A lot of people enjoy the 'cute girls doing cute things' type of anime, but I'm a big fan of 'cute girls doing absurd things in ridiculous situations' a la Nichijou, so this was right up my alley.

Can't give it anything above a 5 when talking story, however, since there really isn't anything beyond the comedy.


Art:
As funny as it needs to be. ... The art is definitely a part of the hilarity, and it's definitely one of the things that help boost the score up. It's not that its proportions are a mess and therefore bad, but the fact that they are a mess makes the comedy feel more cartoony and genuine. This work doesn't take itself seriously in the slightest, so why should the art?


Sound:
Voice acting was fine, no complaints. There wasn't anything in this work that dictates a good VA though, so I can't feel comfortable going above a 5 in this category either. It does what it needs to do to stay good.


Character:
Each character has their own traits, but nobody has any real character at all. Even their traits are barely used anyway, so that's kind of a bummer, but it still works.


Enjoyment:
Super fun. Had a great time. Although part of the praise is in regard to the short length of this series, I'm still glad there's another season and an OVA to enjoy. The general shenanigans these characters endure is a blast.

Ai Mai Mi is supposedly about three girls writing a manga, well that's what the synopsis says anyway. Throughout this brief anime they seem to be doing almost anything but writing a manga aside from a few scenes where they are depicted actually trying to make it, in fact I forgot at a few episodes in that it was supposed to be about writing a manga.
However, I must forgive it because its not meant to be an outstanding anime nor one with a sound story line/plot or deep characters of any sort. Instead this is more of a parody anime if anything, with ... episodes being short and the content being random and nonsensical.
If you are looking for something short to watch to kill time or give you a quick laugh then I think you'll enjoy this one, however if you want an anime that you can get invested in then this is not the one for you.

Overall, despite all said, I would not say it was awful to watch, nor was it very memorable. Its a good way to spend your time if you're bored and have nothing to do, and due to this anime's randomness and shortness there is no real feeling of having to commit yourself to watching it all.

Now for the ratings individually:

Story - There really isn't any story, besides what has been written in the synopsis. As stated there, this anime is about three girls writing a manga. However, after finishing this anime there are very few instances shown of them even working on it, I'd say it'd be more fair to say that the story is about three girls getting caught up in "everyday" shenanigans.

Art - Art is very poor most of the time, but for comedic purposes, so I'd say its a fitting choice for this anime.

Sound - Fair, the music fits the scenes well and I had no issues with it.

Characters - There are four reoccurring characters in this anime; being Ai, Mai, Mi, and their senpai named Ponoka. Characters have no development throughout the anime, so there's no feeling of emotional attachment to any of them. Character designs vary and aren't over done nor are they too simple, so they wind up being somewhat refreshing in an odd way. Each of them also have quite quirky personalities and are interestingly unpredictable.

What a bizarre show.

Story:

There isn’t one. I’m not joking. This show goes beyond random humor, it’s surreal. There’s no real plot progression, though certain events occasionally come into play in later episodes. The show seems set in the real world somewhat, but then out of nowhere something utterly insane will happen. Due to it’s humor being focused on surprising the viewer, and each episode generally focuses on setup and delivery of one to three jokes, it doesn’t always work. Some episodes fail to entertain, while others are incredibly great.

While I say it’s random humor, I don’t think it’s poor. There’s a difference between throwing random ... at you for no reason, and throwing carefully plotted, unexpected, and somehow….hilarious random at the user. The jokes that work are well thought out, and due to the childish look and feel of the show, the dark humor in particular can be downright brilliant. Definitely not humor for everyone, but I personally thoroughly enjoyed it. And with a total of 13 episodes that are 3 minutes each, it’s not a huge waste of time.

Characters:

These characters merely exist to deliver the humor, they don’t have much character outside of their basic traits, with one being the more cool and focused, another being more robust and instinctive, and the remaining character acting as a sort of middle man, though tending to lean towards the robust side. As well as that we have Ponoka-senpai, who doesn’t seem to have any clear character traits, but none of the characters in this show get much time to develop anyways.

Animation:

It’s bad, it really is. I’ve seen better stuff from small YouTubers. They resort to image distortion and movement, and the detail of the animation randomly shifts depending on how much is going on in the screen. It lacks in consistency, fluidity, or even looking nice.

Sound:

Not memorable at all, even the Ending song isn’t anything special.

Final Thoughts:

Despite shoddy animation and some serious flaws, it succeeded in making me laugh quite a few times, and despite it’s lower rating from the majority, there were some amazing moments in this show for me.
