A stack of animes which are set, fully or partially, in the late'90s and early-to-mid 2000s, so somewhere between 1997 and 2007, roughly.

Most of these animes share the same nostalgic vibe for that era and naturally replace smartphones with old mobile phones, modern computers with white CRT monitors and Internet Explorer, and the flashy colorful and dynamic cities of today with the grayer, blocky feeling of this era.

"Heart of Darkness" is a novella by Joseph Conrad, which explores the darkest aspects of human nature and follows the protagonist delving deeper and deeper into its own evil, due to circumstances and environments.

The concept from Conrad's novel can easily be portrayed to other media, and in the case of this interest stack, to anime. The shows you will find here tend to delve deep into dark topics, and generally include one or more characters that lose their own humanity find their own evil.
