New Interest Stack
Interest StacksAnime with great worldbuilding, or the development of the fantastical environment and world! None of these anime take place in what you would call 'our universe', rather taking place in an alternative universe or fantasy/ sci-fi setting with amazingly well-tailored and fitting details in technologies and architecture that makes every world unique. Although none of these anime have a tag/theme that denotes them as psychological, they all use cinematographic tactics often seen in psychological media to explore different aspects of the human condition and tackle atypical and philosophical topics. Very few stories can craft a setting that leaves a memorable impression, in fantasy fiction creators tend to fall back on safe and familiar settings which to me is always a missed opportunity in a story. These are anime that go above and beyond to envision and breathe life into unique and inspired worlds. A significant artistic effort is put into the locations, technology, vehicles, clothing, props, and architecture of these anime and have been masterfully crafted to facilitate these stories. Featuring little to no dialogue and/or characters and the experience is carried by the music and/or visual atmosphere. 100% purity here! Not a single bit of nonsense relating to sex! Shows that take the audience's intelligence seriously, with dark tones and heavy stories. No overblown gorefests or edgy "psychological" shit that's just trying to shock viewers by pretending to be adult. These pieces have a harmony, uniqueness or just an x-factor to their overall aesthetic presence, to include music/sound design. I'd only say there are a couple here where it is a spoiler to know, so they will be at the end of the list. Let me know if you think I should change the stack to have a spoiler warning. But I don't think it's necessary. Spiritual & Ethereal anime, anime that are Metaphysical or Existential or Philosophical journeys, or an Ontological Odyssey, or Transcendentals, Epistemological Enigmas, or Metaphoricals, or Existentialist Experiments or Cosmic Contemplations. These anime can look as beautiful as they are nightmarish. Just some classic physical cels and hard work. Releases which draw in meaningful ways from the named esoteric Hellenic spiritual tradition in their symbolism, themes, or both (Alchemy, Kabbalah, etc.). Most elements from the practice are fairly perennial in their implementation, and this is something up to interpretation, so I've tried to be strict without relying on explicit references. |
