Recommendations for fans of The Legend of Zelda

Shows that take the audience's intelligence seriously, with dark tones and heavy stories. No overblown gorefests or edgy "psychological" shit that's just trying to shock viewers by pretending to be adult.

These are mostly 90s-00s SF, a time period in which this sort of heavily grounded, emotional/philosophical tone was popular with industry veterans.

good anime with a score of 6 or less.

These pieces have a harmony, uniqueness or just an x-factor to their overall aesthetic presence, to include music/sound design.

This is not to be confused with animation though. While the two intersect, if something is interesting only for its animation quality, hopefully it's not here.

I'd only say there are a couple here where it is a spoiler to know, so they will be at the end of the list. Let me know if you think I should change the stack to have a spoiler warning. But I don't think it's necessary.

Either way, these are various PA works that I think are interesting, some overall good while others lean more into their environment than anything else.

Spiritual & Ethereal anime, anime that are Metaphysical or Existential or Philosophical journeys, or an Ontological Odyssey, or Transcendentals, Epistemological Enigmas, or Metaphoricals, or Existentialist Experiments or Cosmic Contemplations.

These anime can look as beautiful as they are nightmarish.

These TV shows, movies and OVAs make horrifying images look as aestheticly pleasing as possible sometimes through creative character designs, bold color choices or breathtaking animation.

Just some classic physical cels and hard work.

Try to get the blu-ray or 4K version of these works (if they exist and after you've checked them to see if you like them) because the high-resolution scans are clean and really help bring out the texture and color of these works. And yes, it looks better on physical media than streaming always.

Ordered somewhat by aesthetic preference.

Every anime I could find that still used cel animation during the early 2000s

Releases which draw in meaningful ways from the named esoteric Hellenic spiritual tradition in their symbolism, themes, or both (Alchemy, Kabbalah, etc.). Most elements from the practice are fairly perennial in their implementation, and this is something up to interpretation, so I've tried to be strict without relying on explicit references.
