Both are violent and got nicely done action scenes and interesting flashbacks. Berserk is set in a more fantasy medieval world while Vinland Saga follows the life of Danish Vikings.

Berserk Golden age part is very similar to Vinland saga, both is about a strong young boy who is a part of a mercenary group and got full respect from the leader who gives him the most important missions.

The art in the two are very close, tho Vinland Saga is a more clean while Berserk is more sketchy and more detailed.

Drawing is almost exactly the same. Not to mention the fact that the stories are very similar. Not nearly as much nudity in Vinland Saga though.

Similar artwork and also similar level of detail. Also plenty of similar over the top fight scenes however Vinland Saga has more strategy elements than Berserk and has a more merciful approach to the slaughter of women and children

if you read berserk and like it and haven't started reading vinland saga what is wrong with you. vinland saga is very similar to berserks golden age story like before the apostles and sh!t but vinland saga is so much better. berserk was the first manga i read and have been a fan for some time now but vinland saga takes the cake i think. so if you like berserk take a look at vinland saga while you are waiting for the next chapter to come out we all know how long that takes.

Both of them have similiar art. Stories are big and epic. only differense is that vinland saga has no monster it´s more realistic. Its must see series if you like manga like beserk

Technical wise, Berserk and Vinland Saga shares an adventurous tone of storytelling. In their perspective stories, there is a main protagonist who seeks revenge for what has happened to him in the past. They also strive to obtain absolution by any means. 

Both series takes place in a setting that is considered more of medieval/historical as opposed to modern times. And in that period is violence, war, and bloodshed. There is considerable amount of mature content in both series but is presently vividly to illustrate the cruelty of their worlds.

Berserk and Vinland Saga are alike in many ways... Pacing, Art style, characters, etc. Vinland Saga starts off with Thorfinn who yearns to avenge his fathers death, and works for his fathers killer, while berserk follows the much more mature protagonist Guts, who also yearns to avenge his fallen comrades by cutting down his former ally Griffith. Both characters have similar appearances and goals despite their age difference. Another similarity in pacing is that both stories have an extremely long back story shown early on. Vinland Sagas backstory being around 10 chapters around 5 chapters into the series and Berserks backstory being around 7 volumes 3 volumes in. read more

The stories are both focused around a character that is morally dark and trying to find himself a greater purpose for his existence. In Berserk Gutts is brought from his depression by attaching himself to Griffith, in Vinland Saga Thorfinn loses his way from an ideal and becomes like Gutts when he was a solo mercenary.  
Vinland Saga takes a great deal of inspiration from Berserk in multiple areas such as plot progression, art, morality, and combat. There is no magic in Vinland Saga, so the battles are more realistic with only select characters having skills that allow them to take on large crowds.

Both manga tackle very adult themes while featuring beautiful art. Both Guts and Thorfinn are very compelling characters with troubled childhoods and complete badasses in their own style of fighting. Both Manga feature the MC looking for his place in the world / finding meaning in life. I can't recommend them enough.

The intense action, the art, the way the story progresses is very similar to Berserk. This is more like the Golden Era from Berserk. This has a lot of killing and a revenge plot.  The personality development  is done amazingly by the author. Enjoy

Both mangas are extremly violent and are set in a historical time period, known for being dark and brutal. They focus on creating a detailed setting out of it, while focusing on a more psychological and philosphical journey.

Similarities - Some of the best artwork , plot and character development ever with both of them having quite mature content.
Dissimilarities -While Vinland Saga is loosely based on viking history Berserk is set in a fantasy world though the fantasy elements take a while to fully appear 

Overall I cannot not recommend these two masterpieces enough but be warned it takes a while for new chapters to come out for both of them especially Berserk and both of them are not for the light hearted

differences:
vinland starts off with revenge's story, while berserk doesn't and eventualy MC seeks revenge.

Although Berserk takes place in a medieval-like fantasy world, and Vinland Saga takes place during the time of Vikings, Both focus on young and strong fighters who lived on the battlefield and fought in wars for almost their entire lives.

Both Guts and Thorfinn start on a revenge-fueled path and have to face stronger enemies as well as their inner demons while protecting the ones they care for and their dreams.

Berserk and Vinland Saga both tell a story about war, revenge, and dream. While Vinland Saga story take a form in historical legend of viking, Berserk use the form of dark fantasy to make a good story.
What you should suspect from the story is lot of blood; hate, revenge, and redemption; friendship and dream.

The series takes place in historical era. The main protagonist of the series are seeking for revenge or a bright side in life, they both are hard working and cold hearted.  The series without a doubt has one of the best antagonist in whole animanga universe.

Its like Vinland Saga except way better and focuses on the dark hopeless reality rather than the main character finding inner peace and making up for all the people hes killed. Berserk's fantasy element really enhances the plot as well.

Both are historical mangas with a great focus on the details to each titles respective eras, the detail is so good that sometimes it will make you wonder if these titles were produced and or directed by members of the history channel, discovery channel or national geographic. Both titles show considerable amount of action and violence and both titles don't make use of super powers or special moves but rather focus on technique to keep the action going (although vinland saga has some characters that posses super human strength)

Vinland Saga and Vagabond takes place in a historical time period with great emphasis on storytelling and characters. Both series' main male protagonist are skilled fighters and throughout their journey, we learn a lot from their experiences. Their story doesn't have similar premises but does go into great detail every chapter that connects some of the overall themes of the series. Expect some mature content that depicts the violence of their storytelling. Recommended for fans who wants a thrilling adventure.

Historical epics from the focus of a wild main character. we are unsure of where the narrative will take us but we will enjoy the ride. 
Moreover, great care has been taken to ensure that the details of the period are reproduced perfectly and it is a proper insight into a time long forgotten.

It's hard to explain, but these 2 stories have a similar serenity about them. Both series are different from other action manga's in how they come up with a solution to their new purpose in life. Everything isn't about violence in these manga's (but the content is still very violent ironically). Vinland saga just gave me super similar vibes to Vagabond and so I highly recommend anyone who liked Vinland to try vagabond.

They are both great at potraying each of the cultures in both series very accurately. Vindland saga is about vikings, where Vagabond is about Samurai/Ronin's.

When I read recent chapter of vagabond, I remembered vinland saga, expecially on "farmland saga part".The samurai and viking warrior who is well known from their skill in battle found their new live as a peasant and slave.

The evolution of characters I would say is the most similar, I think that in a way Thorfinn and Musashi are alike, the fights are quite good and personally I think that Vagabond has a better drawing than Vinland Saga which also has an incredible drawing.

While I was looking at the recommended section, it dawned on me how similar these two really are. So here we go.
- Both are highly acclaimed Seinen manga.
- Both feature a brash teen main character that evolves to a mature adult with a completely different perspective on life.
- Both are historical manga that represent its different time periods shockingly well.
- Both feature breathtaking art.
- Both have an arc where the action takes a backseat for the character to get a lot of development. 
- Both of these are not afraid to show you the horrors of war.
- Both have almost the exact same main theme.

Both stories feature young lads who spend their childhoods and adolescence murdering other people (for one reason or the other) and then we follow them as young adults to witness how their life of death and murder has shaped them (and perhaps changed)

Vagabond and Vinland saga have so many similarities its crazy, both are about a young guy fighting in battles in a medieval/feudal historical setting and going on a character journey about their own strength and sort of rising above their own murderous intent. they're both peak too

The concept of warfare with involvement of a main protagonist in conflicts strikes a cord throughout both series. There is the theme of revenge explored and intent to gain vengeance. At the same time, characters are well fleshed out with clever writing and details. They also earn both friends and allies throughout their experiences. Although Vinland Saga takes on a more adventurous journey, both series' setting has historical landscapes with rich details. Recommended for fans of historical action and drama.

Both of them are epic masterpieces of the action historical seinen genres. 

Both have incredible art styles that ooze with personality. 

Both have initially hot blooded main characters that grow up and undergo through some serious 
character development after the experience they gained from endless amounts of battles.

Both have very strongly written characters, with villainous figures that often outshine the main character in every aspect.
Both of them are excellent at creating large scale battles, but no only, the action these series provide are some of the most blood pumping and exciting stuff you can find in manga.

There is a tonal shift between the two after some point, but they still maintain a lot of similarities.

Both of them have strongly established themes right at the beginning of their serializations, although it might not be as obvious in Vinland Saga's case. Both stay true to their themes.

Both are full of fight scenes and action.  They're also full of philosophies, though Vinland Saga is more deep than Kingdom in that regard.  Both have strong protagonists that you root for and want to watch grow into wonderful men.

Kingdom is probably more exciting, as the enthusiasm never dies down.  In Vinland Saga, there are moments when fighting is not the main focus, but in Kingdom, fighting is quite present while not being overwhelming.  Kingdom is much longer, as well, so binging it is fun.

Kingdom is very good at being engaging, even where there are politically-heavy plot moments.  The tension is managed well, and you can feel the progress that the protagonist makes in reaching his goals. read more

Both historical mangas featuing wars and fights between incredibly strong warriors. Kigdom has a particular drawing style and it takes a while to get used to it, but the storyline is just amazing, same goes for vinland saga's story, even though the level of the art is just superior in this one.

Well both of then are set in the Middle Ages and have interesting storylines. Although Ookami no Kuchi is a little bit tragic, its still a great read and will appeal to the readers if Vinland Saga becuase both stories are about vengence and retribution.

Both have a historical context. However while the focus in Historie is more on the intellect of Eumedes and the historical context, Vinland Saga focusses more on the battles, suffering and development of the main character. However if you like either one I am pretty sure you will find the other one entertaining as well :-)

Magi and Vinland Saga explores an epic adventure with great storytelling. Both series has war themes that has influenced many characters' past, present, and future. The main male protagonist from both series has a troubling past but hopes to build a better future for themselves. From the start of the present story, they travel and becomes involved in dangerous circumstances. However, they also meet others along the way that they befriend and learn more about the world around them. As such, expect a lot of world building as well as characterization. Both series also has themes of revenge.

Manga: Rurouni Kenshin: Meiji Kenkaku Romantan

While both manga have their differences, they are surprisingly similar. Both are historical and have a message of nonviolence. Kenshin and Thorfinn have almost identical backstories. SPOILER: However, while in Rurouni Kenshin we are introduced to Kenshin, who has already come to his decision to embrace a pacifist lifestyle, Vinland Saga is about how Thorfinn arrives at the same conclusion. Both manga are top quality with an enticing plot, wonderful characters and great action sequences. However, it's important to note that Rurouni Kenshin is shounen and Vinland Saga is seinen. If you're new, that means that RK is aimed to an audience of younger teenagers (mainly boys) and VS is aimed at adults. VS is undoubtedly more mature and complex than RK (without taking anything away from the latter) and I wouldn't recommend it to younger and/or immature readers. read more

The thing that these both mangas has in common are the leading personages - young boys that got separated from their familys in a weary young age and people around them involve them in their illegal affairs. If we take into account that both mangas are done by different artists the illustrations are identical.

If one is looking for manga with historical settings outside Japan, then "Vinland Saga" and "Me and the Devil Blues" are top options. Richly-detailed artwork and writing capture the look/feel of the medieval Nordic countries and the Depression-era Southern US. The authors certainly did their research on these foreign times and places.

in innocent the mc is fragile and weak, but with each chapter, he grows stronger, his concept changes, sees the world in a different light. in vinland saga, the mc is reckless, brave to a fault, but hes strong gotta give him that. but he also progresses to become wiser and some might say even stronger. they're both graphic. oh and they're both historical with a touch of fiction which is the case for most historical mangas

Both historical manga involving children with talent for fighting in ancient Europe.  They are surrounded by misery and extreme violence in a world were slavery, political conspiracy, greed and wars are prevalent. Unfortunatly the roman boxer Cestvs is really underexposed so if you enjoyed Vinland saga, think about giving Cestvs a chance one of these days..

The MCs in both Mangas go through significant development, and yet are polar opposites. While Kaneki wavers between his original kind self and the emotionless, crazy side that turns on when he flips his switch, Thorfinn continues down his path towards redemption without ever straying. Vinland Saga starts out as an action-packed historical adventure, then becoming a simpler story where he seeks to achieve his dream as peacefully as possible, while Kaneki abandons that side of him to change things the hard way -- because he lives in a cruel world he has to be just as cruel. Thorfinn goes against that logic, and despite these large differences, there is a similarity between both manga that I can't really grasp. But if you enjoyed one of the two, you would definitely like the other as well. read more

Also note that both protagonists (Edward Elric and Thorfinn) both joined their respective ''army'' so that they could achieve their own personal goal. And lastly, these two stories take place in ''Europe''.

Both are historical fictions, both stories are about MCs creating humanity in savage eras in Europe & in China.

In Vinland Saga 1st arc, MC takes a defending village where it was previously difficult for an entire army.
In Bokkou 1st arc, MC successfully defends a city with the help of 1000 villagers against a 13k army. 

In Vinland saga, after all the problems MC wants to create a peaceful country in unreached land called America & In Bokkou after seeing many wars, MC goes to unreached island called Japan. Before they reach their goals they see similar things like foolish kings, slavery,  wars, etc.

Both are set in Europe, during the middle ages (yet, Divci valka starts in Central Europe a few decades prior the early modern period, while Vinland Saga starts in northern Europe). 

Main characters are kids (Thorfinn and Sarka) who  enroll in the army after experiencing  some traumatic event involving their families and their physical integrity (in case of Sarka). 

Both kids will follow some experienced mentor with brains for war: Zizka and Askeladd. Their methods are, of course, controversial. 

Both kids develope some talent for war: Thorfinn for close range dual wield and knife throwing, and Sarka, with early european firearm.

Due to these events it shapes the way the main characters both behave and drive them to their goals on getting revenge. Both main characters are highly skilled in the way they choose to fight or go about killing their adversary.

While they are very different Thorfinn could be considered one of Fuuta's past lives. At least that is what I felt while reading Spirit Circle. They center around revenge, and have great character development as the main matures. Sometimes for the worst and other times for the better. If you are like me and enjoy the past stories of Fuuta Okeya you will love Vinland Saga. If you enjoyed vinland saga and the roller coaster life Thorfinn lived you may also enjoy Spirit Circle.

"Anuki"'s atmosphere is similar to that of "Vinland Saga". Moreover, both main characters have lost their fathers at a young age. They are also very determined and strong-willed. Finally, both series have a war theme.

While Vinland Saga takes longer time to establish it's ultimate themes and morals it is not too unlike Buddha. Both main characters live to see great deal of war and destruction and how it effects the world around them and develop their own philosophy of pacifism to either change the world for the better or to save victims who have lost their place in the merciless world.

Even though ''Vinland Saga'' is about Vikings, and ''Vinland'' is way more serious, in some scenes ''Sengoku'' battles give off the same ''vibe''.

Even though at the beginning it appears to be a simple manga they both develop eventually in political mangas having a greater plot spanning the whole story.

They both give off the same vibe and are just superb.

Both are great action mangas. Personally I liked Vinland Saga better because it has deeper character development and a more realistic and impressive fight scenes

Both have historical settings. Vinland Saga deals with Vikings while Toujuushi Bestialius (thta's quite a mouthful to pronounce) deals with Romans

In both titles a certain Japanese touch is added to very western ideas. In Vinland Saga there are warriors with superhuman strength while the other has a wyvern and several other demi-humans 

Both contains bloody violent scenes

Both titles' main characters' have their fathers killed and they develop a complex "Master and Student" relationship with their fathers' murderers'

Both are set during past Europe but in different time periods. They both depict the way of life of the people during their respective periods and depict a violent life. They also share a lot of tactics involved in fighting compared to most other action mangas where the characters rely on sheer force rather than strategy

Both series adapts a war-like atmosphere as the main characters experiences loss and sense of tragedy early on in the story. Their experiences causes them to develop strong motivations as warriors and throughout both series, we follow their epic journey. Both series has war themes in their time of era. At the same time, there is historical content and adventure-like feeling with a decent amount of world building.

Both have a blond, brooding, angry teen protagonist which is proficient at murder and being raised and used by their enemy that they want revenge on. While Banana Fish takes place in contemporary 1985 - 1987 dealing with themes with gang violence, drugs and a political conspiracy affecting the life of former child prostitute Ash Lynx, Vinland Saga is about 11th century Vikings when they were at war with England and the bloody detailed politics of that time through the eyes of a fictionalized version of Thorfinn Karlsefni. Both display amazing character development of their 2 angry protagonist dealing with their sins as killers.

Seinen, historical, action-packed, medieval age. Both main characters are based on real historical personage. And both of them starts immediately in the heat of siege warfare. Though later in the show they may deviate some more as Vinland Saga focus more on England / Denmark, revenge and exploration(?), while Hawkwood is still centered around battle, warfare and army building.

Protagonist born into violent times has a gift for fighting but starts to prefer trying to make peace with the antagonists instead. Reader is likely to enjoy the Vinland Saga's take on this storyline more though.

both are historical manga,Vinland Saga is definitely the manga that is more accurate when it comes to its story,but still both have good stories,both main characters seek revenge,the thing that is very different between this two manga is the artwork but both art styles look great

Both Main Characters are lone wolfs and like to handle dangerous situations alone isolated from the world around them. Both Main Protagonists show amazing skill and natural talent  in their stories. Both Manga's show amazing character development as the narrative starts to reach it's climax. These two manga's also have great art work and the detail for each page is awesome.

Both these are stories historically related with reference to their respective time and countries. It is quite similar in the fact both start off with a character bent on revenge. If you enjoy manga with a bit of history, both these are the perfect choice.

Same period, both series have a cast made up of Vikings and priests. Both series try to show the attempts of people at that time to achieve peace despite their differences. Similar art and concepts.
