Synopsis

After the destruction of their hometown, childhood friends Kafka Hibino and Mina Ashiro make a pact to become officers in the Defense Force—a militarized organization tasked with protecting Japan from colossal monsters known as "kaijuu." Decades later, the 32-year-old Kafka has all but given up on his dreams of heroism. Instead, he cleans up the remains of the slaughtered kaijuu after they are defeated by valiant soldiers—including Mina, who has successfully achieved their shared goal.

Upon meeting his new coworker, Reno Ichikawa, Kafka faces a mirror of his past self: an ambitious young man whose one desire is to fight as a member of the Defense Force. Unfortunately, the two are soon involved in a freak encounter with a rogue kaijuu. Though Kafka demonstrates his innate heroic nature and rescues Reno from certain doom, he is left gravely injured.

While both men recover in a hospital, Kafka is seemingly attacked by another one of the beasts. As a result, he gains the ability to transform into a humanoid kaijuu with the strength and powers of the massive monsters menacing Japan. Dubbed "Kaijuu No. 8" by the military, Kafka resolves to use his newfound gifts for the greater good. Tied together by mutual respect, Kafka and Reno set out to join warriors like Mina at the forefront of the Defense Force.

Preliminary (5/12 eps)
I really liked the proposal, the story is very generic but it weighs heavily on the setting, character design, personalities and how they fit into the plot. You can't get away from that much, these elements are the difference.

At these points the anime is the type that manages to keep you involved in the story, the comedy works very well and there is a certain amount of suspense too, especially in relation to the "secrets" and the unfolding of the story in these flashbacks of the protagonist, it is not the best but it is a great hobby.

In short, for the setting, characters and comedy ...

Mixed Feelings
Preliminary (4/12 eps)
I got to know about this anime because of the hype and that it had a 30-year-old MC. And i liked the first two episodes, but everything turned upside down from episode 3, Kafka is just another cringe shōnen protagonist who just yells.
The comedy is just not landing for me. And Why should he care that the exam is fair or not? He should know his situation that he failed who knows how many times in this exam, the reluctance of the MC makes very little sense apart if he is wary of his powers (which would make sense but is not really shown with ...

Preliminary (4/12 eps)
There are some good things about this anime. Production I.G one of my favorite studios did a great job, the animation of the fights is beautiful as well as the graphics. As always they keep a high level.

The music is also well done, I liked the OP and ED.

Now we come to the plot, which the studio had no influence on. It's another typical shonen that does not stand out in any way. A total loser and mediocre suddenly turns into an invincible being overnight. Kaijuu, which are portrayed as very strong creatures, are defeated by him with a single blow. The transformation itself, ...
