Classic, sweet, old-school anime of the slice of life genre.
Very similar animation, character design, and style.
Both have an European setting, and in both the protagonist is a little girl, orphaned, but very talkative and cheerful, who lives with and older person (either a relative or just a tutor) and who loves nature.
These series have overall the same characteristics and feeling.
Also: in both the director is Isao Takahata; the storyboard of both was made by Yoshiyuki Tomino; Hayao Miyazaki worked in both anime.

2 adaptations of classic literature with an orphan girl as the main character adapted by the same studio during the 70s. While both slice-of-life stories provide a cheerful narrative suited for a young audience they still deal with issues such as physical disability, solitude (Alps no Shoujo Heidi), poverty, alcoholism, not fitting with the rest (Akage no Anne/Konnichiwa Anne).
You will find the same heartwarming atmosphere, child curiosity, and rich hand-drawn countryside backgrounds in both works. While I feel Akage no Anne is overall superior in terms of writing, Alps no Shoujo Heidi is still worth watching as it was directed by the same people and

Light-hearted and wholesome kids shows based on european novels.
Both are the coming-of-age of a young european orphan, trying her best learn about love, fitting in, society, and etiquette without losing her touch with the beauty of nature and the beautiful landscapes of her territory.
Both also directed by Takahata Isao.
Both shows were directed by Isao Takahata, luminary of human touch and gentle observation, based on best selling late 19th / early 20th century novel by a female author, with the generous funding of the World Masterpiece Theater. Both are very human shows and depict children gently and non-exploitative.
They share similar story about an orphan growing up in beautiful nature in an agricultural 19th century society. Anne's character age range is more mature (11-17 y/o), Heidi is 5-9 y/o. This makes Anne the more complex and mature version of Heidi in many ways, including story elements.

Adaptations of children’s literature from around 1900 that now resemble historical slice of life anime. They have an innocent but naïve young female protagonist who was an orphan but starts living in a new home. They are mostly set outdoors in grass plains and forests, with the protagonist having a love for nature and wild flowers. Over the course of the 50-ish episodes, several years pass and you can see the characters change over time from age and responses to dramatic events.
