Just a fellow weeb. I am mostly binging series for comedy, but i do like anime with gorgeous Art. As with everyone else, i also go through some stages of growth.

Shounen -> as most people, i started with the series like naruto / one piece etc.. But as we see all the cliches/troupes repeat themselves, we start losing interest and move on to other things.

Drama SoL -> series like clannad / angel beats etc.. until you start seeing how stupid and shallow most of these characters are. Especially when drama is due to forced misunderstandings or other bullshit.

Isekai / self insert power fantasies -> well.. yeah. shield hero and most isekai with OP MC. until you realize how cringe being an edge lord is.

Harems -> ofcourse. who doesn't want to be loved by multiple people? Especially when you barely put in any effort while girls will love for for "being yourself" or being "nice" etc.. as with all the other genres, you realize how the girls are almost always just waifu templates designed to pander to certain fantasies for incels like me.

Relaxing SoL -> camp fire cooking / Isekai Nonbiri nouka / Non Non biyori / barakamon are all good examples of relaxing anime where characters are chill most of the time. At some point, life feels stressed enough, that you don't need to watch tragedies / trainings / drama / hardships in anime. I would rather watch a relaxing show without having to strain my brain. I am just getting into these, so it will be a while before i get bored of this.

Comedy / Parody -> This is my favorite genre atm. After watching all the other genres, you start to crave "meta" anime which are self aware of cliches/tropes and comment upon them or subvert them somehow. eg: kanojo mo kanojo, kono suba etc.. all have meta commentary on their own genres.

I am yet to be bored of comedy / parody, so that is what i watch these days. I also continue to watch any pandering shows like isekai/harem/ecchis , but only if there's enough fan service.
