I'm also very glad I tried it. Usually I tend to watch a lot shorter shows but actually very few shorter shows were as enjoyable as Monster. Again thanks for giving a push to the right direction!

For sure, Runge (or Lunge, I just don't know what's the correct transcription) was very fun to watch. He started looking almost as antagonist-like as Johan, with his inhuman behavior and stubborn self-confidence but as the series went on, he somehow became likable. At some points Runge even worked as a comic relief character - "Doumo. I'm Japanese. Doumo. " and throwing "I'm on vacation" right and left when he needed information but didn't want to cooperate with the police.
Yes, it's a bit time consuming to say the least, but I don't regret a single second of it. Hope you'll manage to find some time.

Yes, Monster has a pretty high rewatchability value - once you know how the events unfold, many details will probably come into places and deepen the understanding how everything happened. To be frank everything Johan did at one point or another was very mysterious - his genderbender clothing, relationship with his sister or Tenma. I wonder if he understands himself and if it's really possible to understand him in the first place.

Nope, it's ok, I finished it yesterday (and what a ride that was...), so now I'm closer to your level. And I got to say, I'm still trying to collect my thoughts about what really happened. Well, to be more precise, why it happened. Towards the end there were some quite illuminating pieces of information about the twins, but even now for me Johan remains more or less, as you say, an ominous enigma. I'm still wondering what was on his mind when he decided to start killing middle-aged couples, starting with the Lieberts, pleaded Nina to shoot him, did all these other things and ultimately decided to be erased. Do you have any insights into his motivations?
Aldael Jan 2, 2017 4:10 AM
Also it's very clever to show Johan very rarely and in this way make him more mysterious and threatening as the most information we get about him comes only from people Johan has interacted with before, and when we see Johan, he truly appears a pinnacle of innocence. Probably this mismatch is the most unsettling thing about him.
Another very striking thing about Monster is how well everything is researched. Maybe it's stereotypical but I doubt that a statistical Japanese knows a lot about Europe itself, not to mention one or two "danke schoen" thrown in or for example all those city landmarks that were portrayed as they are in real life.
Yeah, a live-action adaptation would fit the story well, if only made right. As I remember there have been rumors about the possibility of it but taking into account all those failed anime adaptations maybe it's for the best as it is.

Watching your list I thought you would like to watch some drama, but I guess it's not your thing. I guess I should have looked at MALgraph first, but at least you found it entertaining (it's hard to fail miserably with Makoto Shinkai).

I also recommended you Ping Pong the Animation. I just found out that your top rated genre is Sports, but that's pure coincidence. I don't remember the reasoning why I chose it, but I think you may enjoy it if you like sports in general.

Have a happy 2017 :D

Yeah, Monster is really worth talking about. And rewatching. Though this thing for me unfortunately isn't relevant yet, but in time... Haha
So far the events in Munich were very impactful. At first I was just like hey, where's Tenma and others, why do I have to watch something irrelevant? And then all the stuff to the detective Richard happened and I was amazed how much I was unconsciously invested into him. Now the story takes a bit of a breather and probably I'm not far from the start of build up to that 3/4 part. And Johan is probably the most creepy antagonist I've ever seen.

Hey!
Thanks for your Secret Santa gift very very much! For some time I've known about Monster and thought that eventually it might be not a bad idea to check it out if there was nothing better to watch. My mindset towards it probably was similar to one I have for Legend of the Galactic Heroes - it seems like almost everyone says it's a great anime but due to its length only just a few people have actually completed it. And oh boy how much I have been mistaken about Monster. I'm already around the middle of the show and I'm exceptionally happy that there is still a long way to go. Monster just blew my mind with its realistic story, very tight pacing with enough moments to take a breather, detailed supporting characters and, well, pretty much everything else. So yeah, the show is enormously great thing to watch and I'm forever grateful that you made me realize it.
Also, have a Happy New Year!

I'm good, school starts in September for me so I'm just trying to relax, before I have to get started with the full school year again.

I remember Shirobako. Never thought I'd see an anime about making anime lol. We already got Bakuman though which was about making manga so I guess anime about anime would come eventually. I remember that final Golden Boy ep was also about making anime. I agree it was very idealized some of the characters I really don't think they would hire someone who can barely talk like that Key animator girl. Or someone who is really incompetent like Taro, or keeps starting conflicts with others like Hiraoka and Aoi just had no flaws whatsoever... she was like a perfect employee and seemed to move up the ranks way too fast.

Haven't seen Owari no Seraph, but I have to disagree with FSN UBW s2, I thought it was better than the first season, cause there was more high quality action and I just liked that we actually got a conclusion lol. Also the revelation about Shiro/Archer was pretty well done.

I haven't seen the second season of Psycho-Pass, cause I wasn't really impressed with the first. I might watch the movie, cause I saw some clips and it seems to have some really nice high-quality action animation. I feel like it's trying too hard to be like Ghost in the Shell and there's just way too much exposition dialogue and the characters feel a little lifeless at times.

I've been watching a few things. Recent recommendations I can give are Space Battleship Yamato 2199. Short Peace. Gundam the Origin. Ore Monogatari, Garo and of course the recent Mushishi releases. I would go into more detail, but I feel like I'm kind of bombarding you with this long reply lol.

Hey, just trying to catch-up with some people I've talked to before on this site. So hows life? Seen or watched anything interesting lately?

Thx for the reply, very informative. Yeah I've seen quite a few series that no one seems to have heard of. I like find and watching obscure anime, who knows what gems I could find and I tend to watch shorter series because of the varying quality

. I couldn't really get into Magi, I'm not a fan of the childish/happy-go-lucky protagonist probly why I haven't been able to continue with One Piece either. Phantom is a very good title, one of Urobotchi's best (2nd only to Fate/Zero IMO) you might find the 2nd half not as great as the first, but yeah I still really enjoyed this anime a lot. I believe Breakblade may get more OVA"s and finish the story at some point considering the manga is still running. I couldn't get into Kokoro connect because of the char designs and lighthearted atmosphere. Rainbow is very unique and rare for this day and age. I'm glad it got made, unfortunately it doesn't have much fans. Index I saw before railgun, might be why I enjoyed it more, but I found railgun had annoying side characters... I think I liked the individual episodes of Railgun more though, its getting another season in a few weeks.

Outlaw Star is worth the watch and I can understand where your coming from with the oldschool animation. I was very hesitant to start older series before, but once I got into I started to appreciate the older style much more as I could really tell it was all drawn by hand and I really started to respect that. Cowboy Bebop is an episodic show the plot really only picks up in the last few episodes, I have to say it does an amazing job for what it is.

Kino's Journey is another episodic show, I'm starting to think your not a big fan of this genre, so perhaps it's for the better that your dropped this. It does have many lessons and interesting concepts to see, it can also be fairly psychological at times. My bad, didn't see that it was the specials, I agree Baccano! was fantastic, the dub was great the storyline was interesting (a little confusing at the start but it all came together in the end). Characters were so engaging, yeah we rarely get anime like this, they tried to do something similar with Durarara! but it didn't turn out quite as good. =/

I know how you feel, I can't watch the 'classics' because the animation bothers me so much. And yes I do like ZnT. Do you<---to lazy to click on your list.
