Shuffle! was something that I went into with very few expectations. I generally don't watch older anime for a myriad of different reasons, but shuffle! did interest me for some reason. The plot seemed kinda out there for what you generally get in a romcom and it was that reason alone that made me decide to start watching it. I will say this much about it, if you are tired of the same formula in romcoms and want something a bit different then shuffle! might be the anime for you. Not only is the world it takes place in different, but how they go about

with character development and even who the MC actually ends up with are quite un-expected and interesting because of that. It's an anime that has genuine plot twists. Some stuff you can see coming, but some of the bigger events that take place genuinely catch you by surprise and that's always something I welcome with open arms when it comes to the anime industry.
Story- A basic rundown of the synopsis is this " God, demons, and regular humans now co-exist together. The kings of both the demon and god realm move into houses next to the MC and want him to marry either of their daughters." That is the setup for the plot and imo it does follow some of the basic tropes of "girls move into the mc's house or next to him" but what makes it interesting is his connection to either of those girls. Not only that but they're the daughters of the king of demons and gods respectively and with that comes some unique circumstances. Those aren't the only girls he has a connection to, but they're the ones that are presented to us at the start. Where things progress from here are rather...well fundamental I would say. It does for a while follow a basic path that most romcoms take, which is fine, afterall you can't exactly get a connection the characters and care about them without anything happening, but what I loved about the story is the fact that it doesn't stay on this path for long. It lets you get to know and care for the characters, it gives them enough time to get to know the MC and most importantly it gives all the characters enough motivation to pursue the MC for different reasons rather than just "Daddy said I had to". Where the anime gets really interesting though is after it strays from this path. Certain events take place that leads to a sort of second arc where the dynamic of the show changes and that is where the good and memorable parts of the show happen.
Art- I'm not gonna lie here, the art and animation in general is fairly generic despite the type of universe the anime takes place in. I feel like they could have done more to emphasize the kind of world they were in. One gripe I do have is that they don't show nearly as much of the demon and god worlds as they should have despite them seeming very interesting from how they're described. It's not bad by any means, but this is one of the animes that would have benefited a lot more from having better art design. It's serviceable.
Sound- The sounds assets and design are good, but nothing really original in my mind. It does what it's suppose to and the music sets the mood, some of the tracks are actually quite good to be honest, but there weren't any tracks I would say were mindblowing. The intro was the best piece of music in the whole anime imo.
Character- To me the characters and rather un-predictable plots twists are what make shuffle! a memorable show and experience. The characters in shuffle! have true character development, not all of them, but some of them truly change for the better or worse throughout the series. To me what really made the show interesting was who the MC actually ended up with, not only that but how much the character he chose developed. A character I didn't care too much for all of a sudden became someone that I cared for deeply. The only bad thing about romcoms with multiple girls are that the enjoyment of the show can hinge on who the MC ends up with. I can see why some people wouldn't like the girl he chose and that could ruin the show for them, but the bottom line is that Shuffle! has a great cast of characters all of which are well fleshed out and portrayed. Each girl does get a fair chance with the MC, there are even times when you think that he is gonna end up with some of them, but ultimately I think he makes the right choice.
Enjoyment- The enjoyment of romcoms hinge on you liking the plot and characters. If either of those fall flat that usually makes for a bad experience, who the MC ends up with can also determine if you enjoyed the show or not. The setting of Shuffle! while quite unique, could be seen as something that would be a turn off for some people. The characters on the other hand I think are objectively well made and well portrayed, not everyone is going to like a tsundere character for example, but that doesn't mean a tsundere character isn't well made and well portrayed. I enjoyed the setting, plot, and characters ton in shuffle!. Combined with some genuinely surprising plot twists and developments along with pretty good pacing and amazing writing makes for a great experience in my opinion. It's entirely understandable why some people wouldn't like shuffle!, but it's worth giving a shot if the premise of it sounds intriguing to you, it's also worth giving a shot if you want something a bit different from the standard romcom animes.
Overall- Overall shuffle! was a great experience for me and I really enjoyed my time with it despite me going into it not expecting too much. I would reccomend this to people that want something a bit different from the romcom genre.

Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann

Gurren lagann, and anime that is infamous for it's over the top fights and manliness. An anime that is also deeply rooted in a lot of people lives, mine included. This anime is one of a kind and there will never be anything ever like it again, which is awesome while also being depressing. But why is it like this? What makes it the masterpiece that it is and how come there isn't anything else out there like this? That's what a true masterpiece is. It is something that can't be re-created, something that is etched in time itself. This is an anime that will
...
be talked about and always be watched by people for many many years to come. I will keep anything remotely spoilery out of this review since this anime is special to me and I want anyone that reads this to enjoy it to it's fullest capacity.
Story- The story in gurren lagann is an evolving one. One where the main goal is always changing and therefore the overall plot is pretty much non-existent. It's about a small group of people, Kamina, Simon, and Yoko with very important side characters being Kittan, Rossiou, Viral and lord genome. There is a main villain that later establishes itself, but I won't spoil who. The way Gurren Lagann tells it's story would best be described as "it gets bigger every episode". It's hard to explain, but it feels like every new episode tries to top the last episode making something bigger and more manly happen. Now this escalates beyond what any anime, movie, or piece of any fiction has ever done before or will ever do. It's a very simple concept, yet nobody has really done it to this extent before. This isn't to the detriment of character development or story-telling though, which is the awesome thing. There is more conversation and character development happening than there is fighting, at least early in the story. The other awesome thing is that a lot of the character development and story telling happens during some of these fights. The story does have many, many plots twists, character deaths, points of weakness and also points of happiness in it. It is definitely an emotional roller coaster. Just because this is an anime that you should kind of turn your brain off in order enjoy doesn't mean that you don't feel for or get attached to any of these characters though. There are some very hard deaths to accept that happen in gurren lagann, some that don't seem real. Some that just seem out of place, but maybe that was point? Not everyone is as they may always seem. Gurren Lagann does things that most conventional anime are afraid to do. It has real plot twists that happen, not stuff that is believable or stuff that you could ever really see coming and that is why this anime seems fresh despite being an older anime. It doesn't follow any path, it carves it's own path and basically says fuck it, which is a good thing. There isn't enough originality out there anymore and Gurren Lagann is definitely original in every single category, including it's story. Art- The art style of Gurren Lagann is epic. It has awesome looking mechs, very well animated and well drawn for it's time and it just bleeds originality. The animation holds up even today, hell it looks better than some anime that have come out recently. It's an anime that you can easily go back and watch and it won't seem old or worn out. Sound- The intro and the battle music....Gurren Lagann is infamous for two things. One being it's over the top fight scenes and the other one being FIGHT THE POWAH! It has quite possibly one of the catchiest and most empowering battle-tracks in existence. Anyone that has watched Gurren Lagann would tell you the same. The song "Libera me From Hell" has got to be one of the most well orchestrated music pieces ever made. I would tell you to go and listen to it but it would be better to hear it in the anime first. It's so fitting and the funny thing is that it's a mix of opera and rap, both of which I usually don't like and really despise and yet libera me from hell is one of my favorite songs of all time period. Now, libera me from hell is one track that is amazing, but what about the intro and outro? Well they're also very well done and awesome. Both are very fitting and equally as catchy, right up there with libera me from hell. Character- I already partly mentioned this in the story section but, all of the characters both main and supporting and extremely well done. Some of them might fit into certain tropes, but they all do something different or irregular to separate themselves from that trope. Kamina for example is your standard ultimate badass, but he's also a very caring older brother to Simon, one who talks to him on the same level and also tries to guide him on the right path and cheer him up. That is just one example, Yoko is kinda like the fanservice of the show, but she's far more than just fanservice material. Sure she's sexy, but she's also a pivotal part of team dai-gurren. No spoilers but, she does help Kamina and Simon out in a big way. All of the characters are like this in some way, they're all very well thought out and realized. Now, the character progression. The character progression in Gurren Lagann is very good as previously stated, but why is that? Well the characters are realistic. Yes they may fight against overwhelming odds sometimes and truly do the impossible, but that doesn't that they aren't scared or nervous about doing that. They show emotion while doing everything and not only that but they learn from their mistakes and grow as characters and they are always growing even until the very end. The characters are what make the show in Gurren Lagann. Enjoyment- This anime was made for 100% enjoyment, if you're a goddamn man that is. It's over the top, has very, very enjoyable fight scenes and even though it focuses on these it might also teach you something by the time you finish, I definitely know it taught me something. If you enjoy any kind of fighting or action then you'll enjoy the hell out of this, but you'll also enjoy it if you enjoy seeing character growth or want an over the top story that is also well told and realized. It's a very enjoyable anime and is definitely one of the best if not the best in it's category. Overall- Overall I think you get where i'm going with this. Among all of the so called masterpieces and 10's people give out this is a true 10 and a true masterpiece hands down. I'm not one to argue on the internet, I actually hate it, but i'll defend the legitimacy of gurren lagann as a masterpiece until the day that I die. It changed my life for the better and if it wasn't for gurren lagann I don't even know if I would be where i'm at right now. It gave me the power to fight, not other people, but life. I won't go into detail but my life is shit right now. Has been for a while and the memories I have of watching gurren lagann a year or so back still ring so strongly in my head it feels just like yesterday. It's very enjoyable and well made it just might also change your life for the better. If my opinion alone isn't good enough just ask anyone else that has watched it, they'll tell you the same. Now this is for anyone else that wants to read it, the review is pretty much over, but I feel like writing this right now since it is kind of fitting. I want to talk about the feeling anime gives you. Everyone has experienced this at some point while watching anime, hopefully at least. The best way of describing this feeling would as a high or sort of euphoria I guess. Gurren Lagann gave me this ten times over by the end. It takes a lot for something to truly change someones entire life style. To put it kinda shortly, i'm a shut in, I use to hate the outside world, never wanted a job, never wanted to ever get out there, use to even be afraid of being outside in general, but gurren lagann changed that. Something about the way gurren lagann most have done it or said it made me realize that I was wasting away my life and that i needed to fight back against myself and at least believe in the me my parents believed in. It might sound silly, but it got someone that lived in a basement for many years to finally get a job, and one that requires me to be around many, many people at that. Gurren Lagann might seem a but childish to some people, but it has some strong messages in it and I hope that some people like my review enough to go and watch it and hopefully it influences their life in a positive way. That's all I have to say about gurren lagann really. No words could ever truly explain how amazing gurren lagann. Watching Gurren Lagann isn't like watching a normal anime, it's more like an entire experience. Like traversing the woods at day break, feeling the cool breeze on your skin, hearing animals fluttering about. That is an experience to me and that is what gurren lagann gave me. Now go out there and experience everything gurren lagann has to offer.

Hellsing Ultimate

Hellsing Ultimate was an anime I was looking forward to watching for the longest time and after having finally watched it after all of the hesitation I feel satisfied and yet I can't help but think that if one minor detail was changed about it that it would have been immensely better. That minor detail would have to be how sometimes the show went from being very visceral and serious to cutesy and non-serious. Thankfully those scenes are few and far between, they still managed to throw the mood completely off though and ruin many parts of the anime and lower the quality of the
...
show as a whole.
Story- The story starts off with you learning barely anything about Alucard, the only details you really start off with are that he works for Hellsing, an organization that specializes in taking care of vampires and the like and whilst learning about who Alucard is we meet Seras. That's basically the first few moments of the show and here would be my first complaint. I went into the show expecting something like a vampire version of Berserk. I was expecting a serious show that was graphic and dealt with hard subjects. I got that for sure, but here is what happens. Seras is actually being groped and it's a fairly fucked up scene until Alucard arrives and helps her out. Then right after it goes all cartoony and she's running around in the anime cardboard cutout fashion screaming in a fake tone 'Ah! Don't rape me" while cardboard ghouls chase her back and forth on the screen, this is my one and only qualm with the story, characters, and show as a whole. Now, if the show and story didn't take itself seriously then that would be fine, but it's a very serious albeit far out there story. It has to deal with nazis taking over the world and the vatican pushing back and trying to prevent that whilst Hellsing is in the middle. There are some very disturbing and just fucked up scenes in Hellsing Ultimate, Berserk levels of fucked up, and yet it tries to act all cartoony and it just throws everything off. The story as a whole is amazing, it's a very engrossing story. You're always finding out about Alucard, Seras, and the other characters while also learning out more about the world. The actual progression of the story is at a good pace and there is no filler. You never feel left out of the loop either like there are just some episodes you missed or a part you might skipped, but those very childish bits ruin some of what should of been the best moments in the story and that's why i'm harping so much on them, they're something that shouldn't even exist in this kind of show in the first place. Art- Holy hell was this shows art style and animation amazing. Hands down some of the best animation quality to ever come out. I'm not one to usually squint or cringe at animated blood and gore or even in real life for that matter, but some of the scenes in Hellsing Ultimate left me a tad squeamish and I can't help but feel that is due to the animating style, which which is definitely a good thing. The art style as well is somewhat simplistic, but good in it's own way. They have a unique style and it's nice to come across that every once in a while. Sound- I'm going to be completely honest, the op and eds for me at least were somewhat forgettable. To me though that didn't really matter all that much, I was much more interested in what was going to happen next. To be completely honest I don't even think Hellsing Ultimate had an opening or ending theme, if it did I must have forgotten it. Besides that though the soundtrack and themes that played during fights or flashbacks etc... were good. I'm not really someone that pays that much attention to an animes soundtrack or ops/eds unless it's something really standout. They were fine in Hellsing Ultimate though and served their purpose, nothing really stood out to me too much though. Character- There are a couple of really awesome characters in Hellsing Ultimate. The main characters are Allucard, Seras Victoria, Alexander Anderson, and last but not least Integra Hellsing. The main protagonist that we follow throughout the story is Allucard with his sidekick Seras, Integra is kind of like a boss to them. If I had to complain any of the main characters it would have to be Integra, not because I don't like her, but because I think she gets the least amount of screen time and back story out of all of the main characters and she actually seems very interesting. Allucard and Seras on the other hand get loads of screen time, which is to be expected because they're really the main characters of the show. They both have a good amount of back story to them and have rather good character progression. They both actually have quite fucked up pasts which was very hard to watch. The other main character Alexander Anderson is Allucards main enemy, or at least the main person he is fighting throughout the story. There are other characters that Allucard fights, such as the entire Nazi Army, but Anderson is more like a rival than anything else to him. All in all the characters are amazing and it's always awesome to see what's going to happen when Allucard and Anderson end up in the same room together. Enjoyment- I really enjoyed the show except for those cartoony bits I mentioned earlier in this review. The fight scenes are long a fleshed out without being excessively long, the dialogue is smart, but easy to keep up with, the story is interesting and the story-telling is just superb. It's a very enjoyable anime if you enjoy weird yet good stories and enjoy bloody gory action. I still really feel that it would be a 10/10 from me though if they didn't have those cartoony, out of place scenes in there, that really took a lot away from the show and it was a damn shame. Overall- Overall the show is definitely worth watching if you enjoy action and/or weird yet good stories. It's a very action oriented anime that has amazing animation quality. It has interesting characters and plenty of plot twists and action to keep you occupied. If you're looking for a 100% badass anime then be wary that this is like 90% badass 10% cartoony. it might not seem like much, but it doesn't take much to drastically lower the quality of a show and sadly that is what happened here, to and extent at least. I still reccomend it though, I had a good time with even with it's minor flaws and i think a lot of other people really enjoy it as well.

Steins;Gate
(Anime)
add
Recommended
Steins Gate was an anime I was skeptical about for the longest time, it seemed like something I wouldn't like and it seemed to lack any bit of originality. I love being wrong, not only did I enjoy myself the entire time, but I also wasn't able to find any flaws with anything in it. It is a masterpiece of an anime and I can understand now why it is held in such high regard by many people.
Story- The story is about Okabe the mad scientist and his friends adventures upon discovering they have made a time machine out of a microwave, but it's ... quite a bit more than that. There is so much depth to not only the story but the characters in Steins;Gate that it's kind of insane. Since it's about time travel the slightest change can make things spin out of control drastically and that's where most of the story happens. At first it might seem like a comedy, which it is and it actually has some really good comedy in it, but it does get a lot more serious later down the line after a certain event happens. I'm glad that they were able to make it a bit more serious while also keeping the comedy in there. It does comedy and mystery extremely well. But wait, there's more. Not anywhere does it mention this, but it also has a very romantic side to it, I would even argue that's it's a romantic comedy in disguise, which is a good thing. It has great comedy, a well thought out story that stays interesting the entire time as well as having really emotional scenes that tear at your heart strings while the characters still stay in character. It also has one of the most satisfying endings I've ever watched. To me it seems like too many animes coming out recently are almost scared of actually ending the story so they give you a half ending just in case they want to milk the viewers some more and come out with a dragged out second season which will also probably end on a rather bad note. Not here though, everything is wrapped up rather nicely and I was extremely happy to have spent my time watching it. Art- The art style is pretty normal and rather simplistic in steins;gate, which is the way it should be. The animation and art-style is all really smooth and high quality and there are some scenes that are done extremely well and are really stylistic, but for the most part it's above average and regular. Those few stylistic scenes really do add a lot to it though and are very memorable. Sound- The intro to steins;gate is amazing, so are the endings. Most intros/endings I shrug off and forget, but I have a feeling that I will remember steins;gate for a really long time, I just don't see myself being able to forget them because they were so good and well done. The soundtrack and musical ques are equally as good as well, it's a very atmospheric anime and certain segments in the anime are reminiscent of the "other world" scenes in clannad, which I definitely did not expect from this. I would also like to talk about the english dub. I'm the kind of guy that just ignores english dubs all together mainly because it's usually a lesser version than the japanese dub, but not for steins;gate. I haven't even heard the japanese voices, but I don't see how they could be better than the english voices. The voice actors nailed their characters spot on and it was kind of amazing. Okabe sounded like a mad scientist and Mayuri's voice actress nailed the cutesy Japanese girl quite well. Everybody else also nailed their rolls, but those two stuck out the most to me. Character- Usually in most animes you find out mostly about the main character and maybe have one small segment about one of the more important side characters, but that's it. Not in steins;gate. You get involved in every character that appears on screen for at least 1 or even 2 episodes worth of story, which to me was kind of amazing. I really enjoyed actually knowing about all of the characters that surrounded Okabe, it made them actually them feel real and only added to the immersion factor. Speaking of Okabe, his character development was kind of amazing. I don't want to ruin it, but he slowly changes throughout the anime and by the end I thought the was the same, but also completely different somehow. It was kind of amazing to see a character develop like that, usually character go from being wimpy to badass and losing all of if not most of their original traits, but not for Okabe. Other than the Okabe the other character develop in a similar fashion. Kurisu for example stays mostly the same during the whole anime, but she slowly becomes more "open" near the end, which is what I was hoping would happen, but wasn't expecting to. It's just nice to see things go the way I want them to every once in a while. As for Mayuri I wouldn't have minded seeing her develop more like the other characters, but we did get to learn her back-story and learn how she came to act the way she does and to be honest sometimes characters don't need to "develop", sometimes they're fine the way they were and that's what I think about Mayuri. The other main character Itaru is in the same boat as Mayuri except i feel that he does mature a little bit by the end of the anime, even though it's not much it really does seem like he changed, if only a bit. Enjoyment-If you couldn't tell by now then i'll just go ahead and say it. STEINS;GATE WAS ONE OF THE MOST ENJOYABLE ANIMES I HAVE EVER WATCHED. There, it was really enjoyable, it was hilarious, it was sweet, it was horrific, it was intriguing, it was everything but boring. There isn't a dull moment in steins;gate, there is always something going on that is keeping you entertained, it's fun just watching the characters talk and interact with one another and it's even more enjoyable when they're faced with a challenge. It's simply enjoyable through and through and I can't think of anyone that wouldn't enjoy steins;gate. Overall- Overall this anime is a masterpiece. It does what it does perfectly and has no faults that I can think of, and I can usually pick apart any anime. It was high quality, enjoyable, written extremely well, atmospheric and just incredibly well done. I can safely reccomend this anime to anybody. Anyone can watch and enjoy steins;gate, but people that really enjoy science or romantic comedies will appreciate it that much more. We need more anime like this, more anime that isn't scared to tell their story and wrap itself up, more anime that don't waste your time, more anime that is high quality an original. Just go an watch it, you won't regret it.

Tasogare Otome x Amnesia
(Anime)

Every once in a while I decide to watch something at random, most of the time I end up dropping the anime or end up watching it, but not liking it. There are times though that I end up watching something fantastic and thank god I picked this one for today. It sounded interesting, the idea of a romantic horror isn't something you hear about everyday and that was mainly the deciding factor for me to watch it. It accomplishes what it sets out to do, it's just a bit slow to actually do it, but it was definitely worth it.
Story- The story is a ... bit generic to be honest, the backbone at least. It's about a girl that haunts the school because she died many years before when the anime takes place, 60 years to be precise. How the story differentiates itself though is that it's also a romance, and a fairly fulfilling romance I might say. I've watched a lot of romances and most of the time i'm left not being happy, it doesn't seem like nothing has changed since the beginning and it just feels like a giant waste of my time, but not with this. My one and only complaint would have to be that it's a bit slow to getting good. It was enjoyable up to the point where the exciting stuff started happening, but it was just mainly comic relief with some glimpses of what's to come in the future. I don't really like that, but it is what it is, the comedic relief parts do manage to have some small relevance later on though so it's not like it's completely nonsensical. The storytelling is definitely better on later down the line. I would say the last couple of episodes is what most people will remember about this anime for sure. It had some really amazing scenes, specifically one section near the end where half the episode was in first person, that was something that was pretty cool that I haven't seen done before. The story was entertaining the entire time though, they were always giving glimpses about the darker nature of everything in the more comedic parts of the anime so it always was making you want more, making you want to just watch the episode. I was at a point to where I was like "Yeah, this seems fun, but I don't think it will get good", the fan service and just laid back attitude of it all was making me start to get tired of it, but it definitely picked itself up. I don't want to write any spoilers because I want people to experience it the way I did. Just hang in there, it gets better down the line, it's actually quite jarring how dark it got. Art- The art style and animation quality are really good. Nothing out of the ordinary. The designs are standard, but really high quality and professionally done. I don't think this anime needed anything special though as far as the art style goes, it can accomplish what it wants without having to have an overly excessive and exaggerated art style. Sometimes standard is just the best option. Sound- The sound quality is about the same as the art, standard but quite fitting. The op and end soundtracks are amazing though. It gives off an upbeat, yet creepy vibe, it's really pretty cool I must say. The opening specifically, I know for sure that it will be stuck in my head for a while. Character- There are 4 main characters, Yuuko who is the ghost girl with amnesia, Teiichi who is the main boy character of the anime, Kirie who later joins the club that Yuuko makes, and finally Okonogi who also joins the club later on. Yuuko is the girl who died 60 years prior to when the main story takes place and has some issues on her own. She appears to be this fun and uncaring girl that just wants to sexually harass Teiichi, but she has a bit of a darker past than that and her personal story is definitely a complex and interesting one. She grows more as a character than anyone else in the anime and it's quite the journey. Teiichi joins the club with Yuuko and learns about Yuuko being dead and then sets out to help her recover her lost memories. He also grows some as the story goes on, but he stays mostly the same throughout everything, which isn't a bad thing. Kirie is one of the other girls that later joins the club, she is a bit hard to describe, she's more of a side character than a main character, but she's with the group the entire time and does have a lot of influence of how the story turns out, plus she has some of her own "issues" in the story as time progresses. Lastly is Okonogi who is another girl who joins the club and wants to study ghosts and paranormal activities. She has a bit of an apparent crush on Teiichi and just wants to spend time with him learning about ghosts and him. Again she is more of a side character, but she also has a lot of impact on the story later down the line and becomes more important as time progresses. All of the character are well written and well acted out, nothing to complain about. Yuuko is by far my favorite though, she's a very interesting character. Enjoyment- It was enjoyable the entire time through, but it really picked up near the last couple of episodes of the anime. Some of the more interesting parts of the anime was with how they done certain scenes. Like the one long segment where it's entirely first person, or the entire first episode, it has an amazing first episode. You will enjoy the first half of so because of fun going and just cutesy the characters are, but you will enjoy the second half or so for it's deep story and rather disturbing story and romance. It's a pretty strange anime, but that's what makes it fun and enjoyable. I had a really good time with this anime and I think that if the thought of a good romance horror sounds good to you then you should try it, I really enjoyed myself watching it. Overall- Overall it was slow to start, but really picked up the pace and actually amazed me. I'm glad that things started going the way they were, they got rid of the cutesy fan service shit and started to get more serious about it, after all it is a story about a ghost with a rather troubling past. It's something that I think a lot of people will like, but a lot of people will be turned off by. Either way I thought it was well designed and executed and if you like what you've read here then you should definitely give it a try, just don't get turned off by the first half or so of the anime, it definitely gets a lot better later down the line. It's has my definite recommendation.

Ookami Kodomo no Ame to Yuki
(Anime)

Recommended
The Wolf Children Ame and Yuki was an amazing movie, I went into this expecting it to be overrated and I have never been so wrong in my life. I am so happy that this has the level of popularity it does, it really helps the anime industry and helps give it a better name, helps it seem like it's not filled with the same shit over and over. Anyone can and will enjoy this, young or old, boy or girl, no matter what this will be enjoyable for you. I am happy to call this a masterpiece.
Story- It's going to be hard to properly ... explain the story without writing spoilers so i'll apologize in advance for the vagueness. The premise of the story is a simple one, it's a love story between a regular girl and a guy that is also half wolf. it might seem weird at first, but it's actually quite good. The name of the movie is the wolf children so I don't think i'll shock anyone when I say that the two of them get married and have kids. The story is more or less about Ame and Yuki growing up being half human and wolf and how they choose to deal with it at school and just being in public. They have to deal with different situations and naturally some of the choices they make cause some turmoil between them all. Once they become old enough they start having trouble choosing between being a wolf or a human, and this is where the story really starts to pick up in my opinion. It has some really powerful scenes for being a g rated show, in fact i'm glad it does. It's very reminiscent of something like lion king in the sense that it deals with some rather heavy subjects in a manor that anyone can understand, even kids, and yet it remains enjoyable for anyone and everyone. It takes alot of good writing to be able to produce something like that and they definitely managed to pull that off here. Art- The art style is nothing special in this anime, but the animation quality is excellent. It's extremely smooth and definitely compliments the story. Some people might complain about certain aspects of the art because of the way some of the faces are, but I think that it was deliberate. That comes down to personal opinion, but the overall art style, animation, and aesthetics are really well done. Sound- The sound assets are very well done. Nothing really out of the ordinary, it has fantastic music scores that really help bring the scenes to life. Every little bit, whether it be the sounds or art really helps bring the anime to life. Character- There are 4 main characters In The Wolf Children. Ame, Yuki, Hana, and Ookami. Hana being the mother, Ookami being the father and ame and yuki being the kids. I'll talk about the kids first since the anime/movie is mainly about them. Ame is the boy of the two kids and he is the weaker of the two. He's a bit of your stereotypical mommas boy that requires attention, he gets scared at lizards and runs back to her whenever he gets the chance to, but always remember that people can change. Yuki is the girl of the two and she's definitely the brave one. She chases down rabits, cats, and even small boars at even the younger ages and she isn't afraid of anything. They definitely have opposite personalities, but that makes things interesting. Hana is the mother and she is overly caring of her husband and children. She even goes so far as to till her own fields and farm her own food just to keep them alive, wondering out in the dangerous woods looking for them despite knowing there are bears, foxes, and other dangerous creatures dwelling in there. She's too caring for them, and that is why she's the best mom they could ever ask for. Ookami is the dad and he has the same amount of compassion for Hana and the kids, he just shows it in a different way. He risks being caught as a wolf just to help feed everyone, he's also very trusting in people. Hana is the only one that has ever seen him transform and he has that must trust in her. They're a really sweet couple and family, all of them seem very much alive and it's really touching just to see them be together as a family. Enjoyment- I'm probably getting repetitive at this point, but I can say without a doubt that anyone and everyone will enjoy this. I enjoyed it from start to finish and it never had a dull moment, the only part I didn't like was when it ended, because I just wanted to see more. It was filled with happiness, sadness, anger, and disparity, everything a great and enjoyable story needs. If you don't enjoy it I would like to know why, because you must have watched something completely different from me. Overall- Overall this was amazing. What more can I say, it has everything. It executes every scene perfectly and is extremely entertaining, and it does all this while being rated g. There are not alot of examples of movies/anime that are this good and this accessible to everyone. You can sit down with your family and enjoy this, you'll likely be talking about it for months, maybe even years after you watch it. I know I will and I will be personally recommending this to everyone I know, whether or not they like anime or not, whether or not they are young or old. This is something EVERYONE has to watch at some point.

It's hard to describe the masterpiece that is Saikano, there are so many different things to say about this anime, most of them very good and positive things. Despite the story being as far out there as it is it has a very realistic feeling to it, even in some of the more extreme circumstances this anime has. Out of all the anime I've watched, including elfen lied, nothing has made me cry more, it's definitely a really touching anime and will make you cry no matter how tough you are, that is a fact.
Story- Saikano has a very unique story that is a fact, ... but just because something is unique doesn't mean that it is good. However the story in Saikano is a very good one despite what other people may tell you, that of course doesn't mean that it's not without it's flaws. People often rate it very lowly because of some very minor issues that it has, which is complete idiocy on their end. If I rated anime lowly based on minor flaws then every anime I've ever watched would be a 1/10. Sometimes anime has flaws on purpose, it's often brought up that the enemy is never revealed in Saikano, but is that really even an issue? They are fighting a very oppressive force, but the enemy has no relevance to the story at all. It doesn't matter what force is oppressing the people, Chise would have still have become the way she is despite who the enemy is. The army is just as corrupt, easily willing to completely ruin someones life in order to save many. Even without an enemy the army would still want to have a weapon to stop an opposing forces, that's what the military is all about after all, defending the people. Chise makes the ultimate sacrifice of her own humanity in order to save everybody that she cares about. Not many people can really contemplate doing something like that, if given that option many people would just say no and end up killing their self before coming a weapon, but not Chise. Despite losing most of her own humanity she is able to persevere because of love. Shuji on the other hand is thrown into all of this much in the same way Chise was and he is left a bit confused. He's constantly wrestling with his own emotions, knowing that he loves her, but now knowing what to do, and here is where most of the story takes place. The basis of the story is about Chise and Shuji trying to overcome this giant obstacle and just trying to find happiness in all of this. Being that it is such a stressful and tense situation they of course have many different things that happen to them that make them drift apart at certain points and make some stupid decisions. If you come to this anime looking for the perfect love story where everything is fine then leave now, it's not the perfect love story at all, in fact many people say this anime is terrible because this story is quite corrupt and dark to be honest, but despite all of these issues that they encounter and have to deal with they can still manage to be together after everything they went through. I wouldn't call this a perfect love story at all, in fact I would consider one of the most imperfect love stories, but what ends up happening in this anime despite it being so corrupt makes the good parts that much better. That is why it made me break down so much, it was just so sweat and pure when things where going well and it was also so sick and disgusting that it brought me to the edge of being sick multiple times. It has some of the most intense scenes I've ever witnessed in an anime or in real life even, and I've been through some pretty intense stuff in my life and have seen some pretty bad things along the well as well. Some of the things that I've witnessed in Saikano are going to be engraved in my mind right along side stuff like sitting in the hospital bed waiting to die. Saikano has a magnificent written story that will make you feel happiness, but also sadness. You will be filled with anger, but also calmed. It's something that can't be put into words and is something that just must be experienced. Art- For something that was released in 2002 it looks pretty good. You can tell that it is an old anime when you go to watch it, but it was still good for the time. The animation quality is good as well are the overall designs. It does have some very powerful scenes and I think that some of the art style definitely helps that out. Come to think of it some of the scenes are quite remarkable. I dig the art style, it holds up quite well. Sound- Nothing to complain about on the sound side of things. The intro and outro where pretty good in my opinion. The sound assets are a bit dated, but this was aired in 2002 after all, that can't be really helped. The sound assets help add to the mood of the scenes going on just like you would expect. Overall the sound was pretty good for the time for Saikano. Character- There are 2 main characters in Saikano with a very important side character. The two main characters are Chise and Shuji, the third important side character is Akemi. The characters are designed well over all. They definitely seem to grow for the better as the story progresses, but they do make some mistakes along the line, which makes them seem all the more human. Often the "hero" of the anime doesn't make mistakes, or only makes small mistakes or one big mistake then has a revelation. In Saikano both main characters and Akemi make multiple big mistakes, but they stay true to their character while doing so. It really makes them feel alive compared to some other characters that are fairly predictable and just cliche. This anime does alot of things right and one of those things is the characters. Enjoyment- There wasn't a dull moment in this anime that's for sure. I "enjoyed" it all the way through. I wouldn't say enjoy so much as "interested" really. There were certain scenes that I almost couldn't handle to be honest and I don't think I really "enjoyed" those scenes in particular, but they weren't bad. They made me like or dislike the characters even more and made me closer to them in some small way. I would compare some of it to something like having a tragedy in your life that you learn a valuable lesson from. You don't like it per say, but you are somewhat grateful at the same time for it happening. That sounds about right to me. It was a very enjoyably experience overall and I don't see how anyone could drop this series or call it bad, it was all just masterfully done. Overall- Overall this anime was alot different that I expected it to be, but in a good way. I was expecting a solid 8/10 anime that I would enjoy and tell people to watch, what I got instead was a fresh take on romance and a masterpiece at that. I can kind of understand why some people dislike this anime and rate it lowly, but what baffles me is how some people can give it a 3/10, that's just piss poor on their part. I'm usually not one to speak out about things like this, but Saikano deserves more respect than that to be honest. it's a masterpiece and should be treated as such, just because you don't like something doesn't mean that it's bad and vice versa. Saikano is something that everyone should at least try watching once. You might no be able to handle it and have to drop it, which is understandable, but don't go around calling it bad just because you couldn't handle it. I highly reccomend it and it has easily become on of my personal favorite animes of all time.

No doubt the biggest anime of the year, it's essentially this years Sword Art Online, the biggest question to answer is "Does It live up to the hype?". The answer is yes and no. There is a really high chance that there will be a second season of attack on titan and that is where this anime will shine at it's brightest without a doubt. It needs another season to develop in my opinion and to start to truly shine, it definitely has the most potential out of any anime to come out in the past few years that's for sure.
Story- The story in Attack ... on Titan is a very well thought out and realized one, even if it is a bit on the generic side. Generic in the form of "We are humans fighting against a stronger force than us, but our tenacity will allow us to defeat them" kind of way. It's definitely unique in the way that it tells it's story though, it kind of baffles me that nobody has thought of titans before as an enemy in anime. It's a very weird, yet terrifying enemy, they are kind of like over sized zombies, which is something that would scare the shit out of anyone. Anyway, humanity has built 3 gigantic walls that shield them from the titans, these walls are practically un-breachable and have kept the titans at bay for many years, until one day a gigantic titan that can peer over the walls appears and takes out the gate which lets in all of the other titans to flood into the city and start destroying it. The story revolves around three main characters, Mikasa, Eren, and Armin all of which were great friends as children and even better friends at later ages. These 3 kids have been through a tremendous amount their entire lifes, so much torture and pain, and yet they can have such a positive outlook on life still, it's no doubt a powerful anime that will really speak to you and definitely keep you interested the entire way through. It has one of the strongest opening episodes out of any anime I've ever watched, I would even dare to put it on par with elfen lied's opening episode, which I thought I would never say about any anime. It almost had me on the verge of tears in one episode, they're definitely onto something here, you can tell how much work was put into Attack On Titan. Does that mean that it's perfect? Of course not, but it can be a masterpiece because of it's flaws right? Sure, but it's not. The story does have some problems. The first half or so of the anime has a pretty good pace and really ramps up, but it kind of slacks off some in the middle to end, on top of that there are alot of story elements missing that are fairly important. Alot of stuff is kind of left in the dark and makes the anime has this sort of "gap" in it. The very end of the anime is extremely climatic, this anime does some really fucking amazing fight scenes, the titan fights are especially jaw dropping. On top of that it does some of it's other scenes equally as well. It's a very well made anime with an excellent story, but it was definitely drawn out in some parts and kind of stretched out so that they would be able to make another season. With everything left as it was I would hope the second season won't be so "drawn out". it should be fairly meaty in the second season and that's what i'm looking forward to the most. The first season was amazing though, definitely one of the biggest surprises this season and this year hands down. Even with all of it's flaws the story is still a rock solid 9/10. Art- The art style is different in this than in most anime, it has a more "drawn" kind of style that actually fits the anime really well. It also has some very berserk-esq scenes in it that are amazing. The 3d maneuver gear and the titan concepts are unique to this anime and are pretty badass in my opinion. One of the few animes to come out recently that has some unique art styles of it's own, which is nice to see. The animation quality is extremely good in this anime as well. It's very fluid and some of the scenes in particular are quite amazing to watch, some of which were so good that they will be forever engraved in my memory. Sound- The sound assests I feel where nothing special in the anime, it doesn't stick out in the same way that the animation or story does, it doesn't really have any defining moment where it really makes the scene that much better, it does it's job, but doesn't do anything more than that. It has solid sound assets and solid op/ed, but nothing too memorable imo, doesn't mean that they're bad, far from it, but they aren't on the same level as the story or art. Character- The characters are another very strong point for this anime. You have 3 main characters, Eren, Mikasa, and Armin. All of which have something unique about them that breaks the certain stereotypes that they fit into. By this point in anime pretty much every character fits into a certain "stereotype", but they can still do stuff to differentiate themselves from being just that stereotype. For example, Eren fits the "badass" role pretty well, but he's not as badass as he might seem at times, he has his own tendencies that make him unique from just being a "badass" character, which is awesome. Same with Mikasa, she is also very "unique" in her own ways, as for Armin though, he feels like more of a side character than a main character. I like the whole idea behind Armin and who he is, but he isn't as fleshed out as Mikasa and Eren. He feels more like an important side character, which is sad because I really like Armin. Hopefully he gets more fleshed out in the second season if there is one. That's actually quite the problem, because all of the side characters in Attack on Titan aren't that well fleshed out at all, they're all really just kind of there, they're not as "important" as say some of the side characters in Claymore. The main characters Mikasa and Eren pick up most of the slack though, they're very interesting characters so you don't really notice most of the other characters to begin with. Enjoyment- Attack on Titan was highly enjoyable, despite some key flaws that it had, there was never a dull moment. Anybody that decides to sit down and watch this will enjoy it, no doubt about that. Whether you are crying, being terrified, or getting super hyped you will be enjoying it, and not many anime does that. Overall- Overall Attack on Titan lives up to the hype and at the same time falls a little bit short of the hype. It's kind of the same deal with sword art online, it was so good, but there was a design choice that they made that kind of held it back from being as good as it could have been. Anybody that watches this will enjoy it and will probably call it a masterpiece, it could have been a masterpiece, and it may even become one with a second season, but as for now it's a really solid anime that should be watched by everyone, even if it falls a bit short of it's hype in some areas.

To me watamote seemed like one of the more interesting animes coming out this season, it has an interesting concept behind it and it seemed like it would be something fresh, and I enjoy it when anime tries something different and doesn't stick to a formula like alot of them do, and I wasn't disappointed with it, but I enjoyed it in a different way than I thought I would.
Story- The story is about a girl named Tomoko who has spent most of her life playing games, reading manga, and watching anime, she's basically an otaku outcast, sounds familiar doesn't it? Of course not everyone ... that watches anime was an outcast in school, but quite a few of us that watch anime didn't have a great social life in school and it was rather miserable. What watamote tries to do is to poke fun at that subject and make light of it, which is does do, I was laughing my ass off the entire anime (most of it anyways), but what shocked me was how depressing some of it could be. Being a social outcast isn't a fun thing, many of us didn't choose to be that way (like Tomoko), but we couldn't help it, no matter how hard some of us tried we just couldn't be popular, but is that a bad thing? Anyways the story in watamote is fairly nonsensical, it's basically about all of the crazy shit she gets into throughout her life in high school, which I think works well for the anime. It kind of fits with the whole "i'm an outcast" theme really well. She often gets herself into ridiculous situations that alot of us can relate to and laugh at, but some of them are quite depressing when you start to think about it. It's a fairly odd anime to be honest, but Tomoko is a fairly weird girl so it's only natural that her story would be weird. All of the jokes and scenarios were really well wrote and seemed very original to me, it feels like something I would write from personal experience, although most of the scenes are exaggerated, but still remained relatable to some degree. I did feel that the ending was on kind of a cliffhanger, but hopefully there will be a second season. Art- The art in watamote isn't nothing special, although I will say that alot of the "costumes" that tomoko wears is hilarious. it's drawn and animated really well and everything flows nicely, nothing too out of the ordinary here. Sound- The sound assets really surprised me in watamote, I practically fell in love with the intro. You can tell when work is put into something, and alot of work was put into watamote, they even made it to where one of the opening scenes blended in perfectly with the intro, which was kind of cool of them. The intro itself really spoke to me, I find that most geeks and outcasts actually listened to death metal/ heavy music and I couldn't have wished for a better intro, it's also a custom intro, they don't use a random song and instead got someone to do something custom for it, which is always appreciated and is rarely seen. Character- The main character in watamote is a fresh character. I can't really think of any of any other character that is comparable to Tomoko. She really seems like an individual and is wrote in such a way that you feel for her and don't want to laugh at the situation that she gets into, despite it being fucking hilarious. There are often badass characters in anime that are written very well, but alot of the time they're not relatable, it's hard to make a relatable character, because you have to write them from a certain point, a point that you could only write from out of experience. That's why she feels so real, because she is real in a sense. The person that wrote her more than likely went through some of the things she did in the anime, that or the person writing her personally knew someone in the same position as Tomoko. Either way they had personal experience with this kind of thing and that definitely shows because in watamote. She's an awesome character that I think more people need to know about. Enjoyment- I really enjoyed watamote, alot more than I thought I would. it was hilarious, entertaining, and surprisingly depressing at some points. I was never left bored and was always interested in what was going to happen to her next. I enjoy things that are different, which is hard to find in anime, but just because it's different doesn't mean it's good, it has to also be good on a fundamental level, and watamote is definitely good on a fundamental level. It's only flaw would have to be that only otakus and other outcasts will really understand the subject matter, it's not highly accessible to alot of people. For me personally it's a 8/10 because it does so many things right in so many places and doesn't really mess up much in other places, although I can also see how some people would dislike, or even hate it. Overall- Overall I loved watamote, alot more than I though i would actually. It was a really enjoyable and well though out anime that felt realistic to a degree despite being exaggerated in some areas. it threw me some curveballs in the sense that it was more depressing than I though it would be, I was expecting it to be all comedy, but I felt myself being depressed sometimes as well, which made me have a deeper attachment to the character and make me like her ever more. I would highly reccomend this to anyone that has ever been an outcast in their life and had a hard school life, it might help you get over some of that through comedy and you might even have a good time with it. If you however haven't been in that position then you might have a hard time understanding the main character and you might not like it because of that, either way it's a fundamentally well written anime and doesn't to be as low ranked as it is in my opinion.

Kokoro Connect
(Anime)

There is alot to say about Kokoro Connect, it was a rather odd, yet extremely enjoyable experience for me. I can kind of understand why this anime gets alot of flak from people, but that's not the animes fault, the problem that the anime "has" isn't a problem at all, it's disliked in the same way school days is, not because it's badly designed, but because it's something people don't like. People confuse something as being bad because they don't like it, but that couldn't be farther from the truth, hopefully my review sheds some light on this anime and can help anyone that's on
...
the fence about it make their mind up, also this is for the whole anime, that includes the 4 "extra" episodes, they are essential the story and should have been aired at the same time as the original anime, but for some reason it wasn't.
Story- The story in Kokoro connect is different from how the synopsis describes it, that's part of it, but now what the story is just about. They go through certain "tests" as a group, the first being randomly body swapped, i'm not going to spoil what the others are, but stuff like being able to hear the other members thoughts happen as well, it's actually a really good idea and makes for a very intense and interesting story. I would definitely call it one of the more uniquely written stories out of all of the anime I have watched. The story has it's ups and downs as far as emotions go, it has it's funny moments that are hilarious in their own respect and it also has some very touching and emotional scenes, and the best part is that these scenes are perfectly balanced, it never feels like it should have been serious when it was being funny and vice versa. I was expecting the story to be kind of shit and just nonsensical like some people have said, but I found it to be the opposite of that. It was wrote extremely well, had plenty of varying issues that they had to overcome, had great character interactions, no down time, stayed interesting all the way through, the only part of the story you could complain about was something that happened down the line, which is how it's suppose to be. Not all anime is suppose to make you feel good about yourself, some stuff is suppose to do the opposite and make you feel like shit, make you feel anger and resentment, it's suppose to make you feel a variety of emotions, some examples of anime like this that are misunderstood would be something like school days, or even aku no hana to an extent. All of that being said I think the story is amazing, even that part that made me start hating a certain character, it was suppose to be that way. The ending was something I was worried about, I always worry about the ending to animes because it seems like alot of really good anime are spoiled by a shit ending that makes no sense or leaves off on a bad cliffhanger, but not kokoro connect. It had a very satisfying ending, it told it's story and didn't decide to drag itself out and over stay it's welcome like a lot of anime seem to do nowadays. Art- The art is nothing special, it's your average run of the mill anime type art style with nothing special about it, which works in it's favor. You really get the sense that this is happening to a regular group of friends, which I think adds to the overall feel of the anime in a positive way. Sound- The op/ed sountrack is pretty good, it fits the feel of the anime really well. The music scores are on queue everytime and simply adds more to scenes. It's kind of hard to mess up the sounds assets of anime nowadays, also dat sax solo. Character- The characters in kokoro connect are arguably more important than the story. The entire show is based around this group of friends finding out more about each then they were supposed to, if the characters are boring and uninspired then the show would be trash. They all have something about them that makes them unique in some way, which can be hard since there are 5 main characters. They all feel as fleshed out as characters and you can see them change in believable ways that don't break the story or immersion. Some anime doesn't do this, they make the character do something they wouldn't normally do, or they make them into a badass when they were originally a geek or something along those lines, it's immersion breaking when that happens and it ruins the anime for me most of the time. Being that there are 5 main characters that are fully fleshed out, that makes for a really good time. You know these characters on a deeper level so when something funny happens you find yourself laughing with them at what happened and when something tragic happens you find yourself being depressed about it. The characters and story are what this anime as amazing as it is, without the interesting characters to support the awesome story it would fail, and vice versa. They have a perfect harmony and pace that is refreshing to see, not many anime get the pacing and character interactions right, but this one does and i'm glad I took the time to watch it. Enjoyment- There is no downtime in this anime, something interesting is always happening and you're never left having to watch a few filler episodes to get to the good parts of the anime. Watching these 5 characters just interact with each other is fun enough, throw in a well realized story that never stops with the curve balls and you have yourself a fantastic anime along with an experience that you won't be able to forget. This anime never lets up, and that's one of it's best qualities, non-stop entertainment. Overall- Overall I was quite surprised by Kokoro Connect, I often find that alot of controversial anime usually either sucks or is awesome, and I always love it when i'm wrong about an anime, it's the best feeling in the world. I'm so glad I decided to watch it, it was highly enjoyable, well made, well designed, excellently executed, and enjoyable to boot. If you enjoy mystery, romance, or just plain weird anime that is designed well then kokoro connect is a must watch. It's something unique, it tells a story that no other anime has come up with before and makes it awesome. Romances are a dime a dozen, same with high school slice of life, but this one breaks that monotony and tries something new, and definitely succeeds. Watch it now if you like what you've seen here, or hell , just try it if you're looking for something new to watch, you won't be disappointed.
