Most of us are here for one reason, we heard that Burn The Witch was written by the author of Bleach, it peaked our interest and so we gave it a chance. But what a disappoint it was.
Burn The Witch is a "movie" in a 3 episode format, except they're not even full-length episodes. Each episode is only about 18 minutes long after you take out the screen time used for the ending. a climax, and then an ending that wraps up everything nicely. Burn The Witch did none of this nicely.
Art: 6
Nothing is really wrong with the art and animation. I actually fairly enjoy the art style and have no issues with it. The reason I'm giving it a 6 however is because this is supposed to be a "MOVIE". However the art and animation just feels like a standard anime. There are many anime that look much better than it.
Sound: 5
Not much to say here. None of the songs really stuck out to me or really caught my attention. There was no song that made me go "I want to listen to this again in my free time."
Story: 6
The format for the three episodes are as follows:
Episode 1 - Introduction to Characters & World
Episode 2 - Minor Backstory and Buildup to Climax
Episode 3 - Climax and Conclusion.
I will admit the first episode I think was very well done. It introduced the characters we would be seeing the most of us, it gave us a nice introduction to the setting and how the rules are in Reverse London when it comes to dragons. It even gave us a nice and entertaining fight with a dragon to show off what our main characters Noel and Nina can do.
Episode 2 felt really rushed. I didn't really care much for Mary or the way she was introduced. It all felt sort of half ass done. This is where the 18 minute screen time really comes into play (I think. I haven't read the manga so I'm not sure how religious it is the source material). It really hurt because not much time was allowed for proper build up.
While I did enjoy episode 3 I also have some big complaints. They go on to fight this "legendary" dragon and they even go into some dialouge where they name all the legendary dragons BUT NONE OF THAT MATTERS BECAUSE AFTER THEY BEAT THIS ONE DRAGON THE SERIES JUST ENDS. The last few minutes also didn't really feel like much of a proper ending as well, it more so just felt like a normal ending for a normal episode that would be continued later on. It literally just feels like I watched the first 3 episodes of a 12 or 25 episode anime. Why waste time naming all these legendary dragons when none of that will be explored, why give me an ending that doesn't feel like a movie ending and more so just feels like there should be an episode 4?
This adaptation is literally based off of only the first 4 chapters of the Burn The Witch Manga. There is no chapter 5... yet. At the end of chapter 4 it says "Season 2 Coming Soon." I wish they would've just not adapted this until they had enough content for a full series. These 3 episodes just feel like an introduction to the setting and the legendary dragons, it does not feel like a movie because the story isn't complete. A movie has a complete ending, Burn The Witch just makes me feel like I haven't watched the other 9 episodes of a 1-cour anime.

I've heard that the manga is different, I don't know how its different so this will be my critique on the anime alone.
Radiant had the potential to be something far greater, it even displayed that for a portion of the show, don't simply look at the score I or anyone else have given it and pass it off as bad.

story, this is where most people dropped the show and why Radiant is rated so lowly. I would say Radiant doesn't actually get to be pretty good until the second arc and the climax of the second arc (which is basically a quarter of the show.) If Radiant had pushed out content as heart-racing and emotionally moving as the second arc did but for the entire show instead of wasting screen-time, then the show would have easily been an 8 or a 9. Radiant very much makes me think of Black Clover in this way, an extremely mediocre and unoriginal start of the show, the setting, and an unneeded time waster of an opening explaining the show to us every episode LOL. But with patience and time you'll see that there is something more to this show.
Unfortunately I can really only commend Radiant on a job well done for about 5 episodes but I still enjoyed this show and am looking forward to the season 2 since it was announced at the end of the last episode. I hope season 2 will continue with the level of content that the second arc ended with.

This review was ,made after watching 8 of the 14 episodes.
I never understood how people could enjoy episodic anime, where each episode featured different people, unrelated to the previous or upcoming episode. Anime like Cowboy Bebop, or Samurai Champloo I never really enjoyed due to them having the basic timeline of episode 1: introduce characters, episode 2-24: random adventures that feature "character development." and finally the last 2 episodes having an actual backstory to them. It was boring, I didnt like it and I thought the character development was garbage. HOWEVER, Violet Evergarden is the perfection of this.

solid, a girl raised as a killing machine has lost the only person that was important to her and now she lives her life as a normal human. Each episode focuses mostly on the characters more than it does the story. Violet Evergarden's biggest perks are in the Character and Art sections so go read those. The story's main focus is Violet's character development and how she changes emotionally.
Art: 10/10
Violet Evergarden in my opinion is the best looking anime to ever come out, period. Better than any anime movie, better than Fate/Stay Night: Unlimited Budget Works, better than anything else by Kyoto. This is flat out the most beautiful anime I have ever watched. Even minor details like a flower moving or wind blowing, each motion is unique and not a repeated set of frames unlike nearly any other anime. The beautiful art style helps in conveying emotions and the mood of the scene, you wont understand unless you watch it, a good example of this is when her shoe is going through the water in episode 7, it was an extremely emotional moment and the beautiful animation just amplifies it. I can not give this anime enough praise on the animation and art.
Sound: 10/10
Just like the art, the OST perfectly sets the tone for a powerful emotional scene, or sometimes there will be no music which sets this unsettling type of mood, in conjunction with the art, it works out perfectly. Both the opening and the ending are beautiful songs that fit in perfectly for where they are in the show, the opening gets you excited for the new episode and the ending is a slow piano song which is almost emotional, fitting in perfectly since nearly every episode ends on some emotional scene between the characters.
Character: 10/10
The biggest focus in Violet Evergarden is Violet's transition of being a heartless soldier that doesn't understand emotions, to her first smile, to her first tears, to her understanding of the darkness she has caused by killing so many people who had loved ones. The "burning" scene that was at the end of episode 7 had a huge impact and helped convey how she has changed from episode 1 to episode 7 (Ive mentioned ep7 twice now because it was just such a fantastic episode). The only issue I can find in Violet Evergarden's character department is that the side characters (basically everyone except Violet) don't seem to have that much depth to them as most of the screen time is spent on Violet herself. Basically, Violet gets A LOT of screen time while pretty much any other recurring character takes a back seat.
Enjoyment: 10/10
Typically I am more so the type that enjoys your generic magic/action/bits of comedy and romance type of anime. But Violet Evergarden's writing is just absolutely phenomenal. Every episode is an adventure, either with new characters or current ones. No other episodic anime holds a candle to Violet Evergarden, I have never watched an episodic anime that I absolutely loved until Violet Evergarden came around. Keep in mind not every episode features different characters, episode 8 for example focused on the previous events between Violet and the Major.
Overall: 10/10.
Violet Evergarden displays the best art style and animation you will ever see in any anime, a perfectly fitting OST, various heavily emotional scenes and fantastic character development. Can you really ask for more?

As of writing this review I have only seen up to Ep.10, mild spoilers may occur containing information up to that point.
TL;DR: The story is nothing unique but is still solid. Characters and the fact that Studio Pierrot are the ones adapting this are Black Clover's biggest flaw. Black Clover, despite these flaws I do still find very enjoyable though.
It's disappointing to see how lowly ranked this is and some of the stupid reviews that just call it trash. Yes, Black Clover has many flaws (just as any anime have flaws), simply based on these flaws i took a guess at what studio made

it, and to no surprised I was correct. Studio Pierrot strikes again with its bad adaptations!
Characters (5/10) Mediocre
The main area of Black Clover's flaws lie in its characters. This is not limited to Asta and how he yells approximately 37 times per episode, but nearly all the characters with some sort of gag. What I mean by this is they use and reuse the same jokes with each character to the point where it is no longer funny. Some anime struggle with having every character act differently, this one however greatly over-dramatizes each character with the same jokes.
This however by no means makes it a terrible anime, in fact Black Clover has quite a few of those moments that get you excited and make you want to watch the next episode. Moments like when you first see the demon behind Asta and him using his sword, and when Asta gets his Magic Knights cloak had me pumped and super excited.
Story (6/10) Fair, Enjoyment (8/10) Very Good
The story itself so far is pretty basic and doesn't stand out as unique, its just a typical but solid story and world, but as mentioned above does have big moments which make me really enjoy it.
Art (7/10) Good, Sound (7/10) Good
The art style and sound track are nothing special and pretty normal but tie into whats going on well, the OST is not good enough that I would listen to it in my free time.
Aside from the characters, one big complaint I do have though is that you are treated to repeated scenes prior to the opening that just goes over the setting or what happened in the previous episode, this basically makes me feel like Studio Pierrot was lazy and stalled out 40 or so seconds of content and new animation every episode. They also reuse a picture of Asta twice in the opening, while some may find this silly, it just makes me feel like the studio was lazy and simply tried to limit the amount of work they had to do.
On a side note, I believe having Asta be able to do more than just swing his sword would make the anime much better, since I dont see him growing or changing as a character. Maybe if he learned a spell (but of course he cant use magic so maybe the sword/demon would come into play and increase his physical capabilities or something.) At one point in the anime, they mentioned that when a magic user matures, grows emotionally, or so forth they will "unlock" new spells from their grimoire, I would like to see something like this for Asta's case.

This is my first review on MAL so excuse me if it's sorta bad d:
I'll be quite honest, I'm usually only really big on anime with magic, action, with comedy and possibly some romance all thrown in. This anime appears to just basically be your usual school/romance anime, but it's so much more than that. I can say for sure that Ao Haru Ride has become my favorite romance anime (not including comedy/romance) there was comedy thrown in but i look at this as a romance, not a comedy.
The story is very basic and isn't totally outstanding but it's the characters themselves that got

me hooked. The art is very unique and wonderful (Production I.G. is personally my favorite studio and always seems to do a fantastic job). I absolutely loved this anime and had so much fun watching it, it's a romance but it can be so intense at some points as if you were watching a fight scene in Attack On Titan. It had me cheering, upset, happy, excited, just everything. Whenever Kou and Futaba were together I just got so excited and interested.
Like I mentioned earlier, the story and overall plot itself isn't that unique or outstanding but the backstory behind Kou is where the story really shines and shows how Kou has became sorta the heartless person he is today.
I highly recommend watching this anime even if you aren't too into the whole romance thing. I had so much fun watching this and it even had me jumping out of my seat at one point or another O.O There are very few romance anime that I can say i actually thoroughly enjoyed, but this tops them all. And if you do like romance anime, why haven't you watched this yet? Get to it!
