Would make sense when you look at everything else Deen fabricated. It's a shame, I had hopes for them!
Miragee Oct 24, 2016 12:32 PM
You are talking about Deen in general and the fact that everyone was baffled by the detailed animation they did in Rakugo, right? So the reason for the quality displayed was a mixture of having a decent director on board and not having tight schedule so their animation team didn't have to work under constant pressure?

I'll reply more in depth later as I'm heading to class, but at no point did anyone make the claim that the cute girl is the driving force behind this being "emotional". I've said it before and I will say it again. Being cute/attractive is a standard in almost every form of media. The fact that she is cute/attractive is just some contrived correlation that he decided to go after. It could have been a guy and the same would have held true. I've already said it, but most sad stories within anime actually have a male protagonist. Not the other way around.

You see, your review is entirely acceptable. You bring up valid points, but I will just say one of the most famous stories of all time is extremely similar to what you mentioned while griping. That would be Superman. I have no reason to attack your opinion here because you actually address issues with the story presented to us. While it is still just a six minute clip, it does have holes. I am fairly open minded when it comes to stuff like this. Hence never calling someone out for a negative review on anything. I didn't even rate this short until I saw the kicking and fussing from this user and I still don't think it should be on this site. It provided me with 10x more enjoyment than other EDM music videos so of course I enjoyed it.

With that being said, you're making an argument for him here. He didn't make these points and still hasn't made them. These are ACTUAL quotes from his trash of a review:

"This might be one of the worst things I have ever watched."
This is subjective, but come fucking on. He even said the visuals were amazing and the music wasn't bad.

" it takes the most abusive shortcut by designing a cute character, throwing her into a position of bittersweet melancholy, and using that as a means of manipulating our basest emotions into believing there is something meaningful and tragic to be said."

You see, this point isn't entirely horrible. I was kind of agreeing with him all the way up to this. I will agree that it seemed like some kind of shortcut to draw out emotions. At this point I was having a decent time reading it until he brought in "cute character" as a means to go after this short. Even then I wasn't entirely disagreeing with him because having attractive characters is basically the standard for anything related to art or media right now and has been for a long time. What he says next is what truly showed me he didn't even know what his own review was getting at and the passage above came off to me as something filled with buzzwords that had no actual argument behind it in regards to this user.

"People are praising the emotional resonance in the story and its ability to bring out the loneliness lost in the profundity of memory. Yet, consider a world where the main character is not a beautiful teenage girl, lost and confused in a world completely foreign to her. When you remove that physical appearance that makes us so inexplicably attracted to her stake in the story, there is ultimately no reason for us to feel sympathy. It is completely superficial. "

Literally states it himself that the ENTIRE anime community only feels sympathy for attractive characters and anything with an attractive character is superficial. All of this despite nearly all of his highly rated shows having exactly what he went after. He's simply a hypocrite here. You can't look at the entire sum of his argument when something like this is within it trying to tie it together. It's clear he firmly believes the female being attractive is the reason for its popularity and nothing anyone says will convince me otherwise. He says it himself.

" Shelter offends its audience by ..."

By this point it was clear he had no idea what he was talking about. One of his "glue" arguments for his review was based around incredible assumptions and he even ends the review off with a GLARING assumption. Cut off the rest of his run-on sentence because it was useless. Anyways, any one who makes a single assumption about the audience watching it should be shunned. Especially when it is in regards to something popular. The fact it is popular points to thousands to millions enjoying the song/video, yet here we have some nobody on MAL stating "It offends its audience". You kidding me?

Again, shows how useless people are with this mentality. Too stupid to actually debate about points they apparently support and just say it's not worth their time even though they were the ones who got involved with the argument in the first place. Also, that review would be the lowest rated review on this entire site if they allowed people to down vote them. Hence the hundreds of people that went out of their way to call him out personally and the "show" itself is well above an 8 now. So the fact you brought that up supports the notion that you two can't comprehend simple data sets or arguments. What you just did is on par with Youtube only allowing videos to be thumbed down and it is displayed. That video had around 500 thumbs down the last time I checked. According to you,"People of the Youtube community obviously don't like that video". How ridiculous can you guys get?

(Japan worshiping him. The same culture that you guys think you know about and try to say what they can and can't do)

This is easily the most ill received review of all time on MAL. It's so trash that almost every other anime community is tearing it apart. Also, how about you respond to my wall of text on why people are getting annoyed by his argument? The basis of his argument doesn't make sense and the only people supporting it are showing clear signs of being edgy.
ClannadQs Oct 20, 2016 10:43 AM
Yep, another user who doesn't defend the points at all and just throws the argument into some other direction.
-People are bashing the review on his own profile
-People are bashing the review on other people's profiles
-People are bashing his review on the Porter Robinson subreddit
-People are bashing his review in the original reddit post
-People who defend his review in that post are reaching -10 to -50 in downvotes
-People are bashing his review on FunnyJunk

Also, the guy apologized for being harsh. Have you read the actual response from him on reddit? He shits on him and uses strong language most of the time. That's what he apologized for, but whatever. I guess when you have nothing to defend you just find a way to push the argument off onto some non-existent crowd. Unreal how stupid some people are in this community.

Sentenal Feb 20, 2014 3:27 PM
So basically you don't like it when cartoons look like cartoons
Sentenal Feb 18, 2014 1:54 PM
So the people who are almost 1:1 mirrors of real life actors piss you off, normal people piss you off, and people who look like pirates piss you off. What if they had K-On googly eyes and no noses, would they be better then?
Sentenal Feb 17, 2014 2:05 PM
Every single aspect? What about this guy? Or maybe this guy? Or this guy or this guy? And then you have characters who are basically mirrors of IRL Japanese actors like this guy and this guy. Are they way too overdone?
Sentenal Feb 16, 2014 5:33 PM
How is Dragonball art ok, but not One Piece? Both look like stylized cartoons, One Piece is fairly reminiscent of DB art, so I'm not sure what the problem is
Sentenal Feb 15, 2014 9:27 PM
Why not try reading it? And out of curiosity, do you think the same thing about Dragon Ball?
