I can speak complete sentences in Japanese and read a little bit of it thanks to anime, my sister insists that I know Japanese and tells the world exactly that but I always shut her up and deny it. I will only admit to that when I have officially learned the language. In my opinion, a language must be mastered according to "FBI standards" then only can it be considered a learned language. How long has he/she been in America?
I must become proficient in all aspects. If that is not the case, then it is not a learned language and I will not acknowledge it in front of people or even to myself, for that matter. Oh! That is surprising. Does he live in your country or is he/she an Internet friend?
Language-learning has always been one of my strong suits. I find the look on people's face when they find out I can speak their language very rewarding. Did you know that Arabic is suitable for left-handers as it is written from right to left?
I normally use my trusty Oxford Advance Learner's English-Chinese Dictionary for jobs like this. My friends use some obscure translating program on the Internet which I don't know about because I am too old-school.
It was from Mahou shoujo Madoka Magica. There is a Chinese saying that means something along that line. It goes something like this: "Collecting little can make it more, drops of water can become rivers." (I apologize in advance if the grammar is a bit off, Chinese is not easy to translate into English or vice versa).
It was fair. The only really interesting thing that happened was that someone gave me anime merch as a Christmas present. Other than that it was just the usual "go to church and sing carols" routine. I was so busy I didn't even have time to prepare proper gifts for anyone. I just baked cookies, packed them and handed them out to everyone in my list.
