Don't worry about it! I'm pretty damn late replying to you too.

I keep coming so close to just... stopping the story xD. I do it all the time, I start writing, get proper into it, then just get bored and move onto another idea. But, I'm 5000 words into this one, I don't want to waste it. I actually want to get it done.

EoE has indeed made it into my favourites list, it was amazing beyond belief. An absolutely beautiful mind-fuck, and I can tell you that I won't experience anything quite like it again. In fact, if you could recommend any shows similar to NGE, I'd gladly take a look at them.

I thought Hyouka was good (I've had it on hold for almost a year xD), I had it lingering between 6 and 7 throughout watching it but I decided to be a little generous at the end and give it a 7. Mainly because of Oreki, he was an amazing character. I might trigger you by saying this but... I really really disliked Chitanda, she got on my nerves. Granted I did like her sometimes, but she was highly hit and miss with me. Thought the show was a little too melodramatic at times.. but.. the mysteries were alright, the OST was fantastic, Oreki was great, and it was absolutely gorgeous. I enjoyed it overall.

Haha glad you liked it, that's one of my favorite scenes of the show :). Although I like pretty much everything in K-On!!
Sayaka Jun 15, 2016 7:21 AM
Wow, thanks for taking the time for that!

An excellent writeup, I agree on most of your points, especially the tone shifting. A character death would have a several minute long leadup only to be undermined by a gag a few moments later, or even in the very same scene. While I didn't like her I have to give credit to the mangaka for making Seryu such a ridiculous character - guns for limbs, and one in her mouth? Thats silly and I totally could have seen something like that in a more consistently ligthearted action/comedy.

Reading your thoughts and me noting how much I agree with them make me wonder if I was too lenient due to it being one of the first anime I watched....

So, thoughts on AgK? I figured that you wouldn't like it as well, and was wondering what aspects of it you liked/disliked most.
Gluzin Jun 13, 2016 2:42 PM
Yup. This are not my actual favorites though, just some of my favorite slice of life anime, but K-On! is certainly up there.

It looked and sounded great (for the most part) but it had HUGE pacing issues (like the entire episode with Vince and the Memory Guardian, I think that's what he was called. I get it was to have Vince accept himself as a Proxy, but an entire episode? Holy crap) as well as a confusing, anticlimactic ending.

I loved Vince and Re-L, but man the story just tanked for me after they left Romdeau; I was loving the politicial mystery but then it turned into an episodic anime where they fought a new Proxy, or visited a new dome. The Smile Land episode was the biggest offender of this - the entire episode felt pointless and added nothing to the overall story. The Gameshow episode was another thing I didn't like - props to them for making an exposition dump that wasn't boring, but I'm not a fan of (unwarrented) exposition dumps (Shinsekai Yori had them too and they were sleep-inducing) to begin with.

Also forgot to mention: there's anime I'd bash for various reasons and others I'd rather not, that's when I usually really consider what my enjoyment of the series was, or if I could specifically relate to its characters, if it really made me feel something or not, because that's what I mainly seek for in anime
p1va Jun 8, 2016 12:50 PM
They're not entirely based on enjoyment, although many of them are inaccurate, and Clannad is one of them, kinda like Steins;gate is. Clannad is more like a 7.5 for me while Steins;gate is more of a 9/9.5, in those cases I just got to the next rating the site allows me to set, though rewatching the series is usually the best option for me, in fact I'm sure when I say I'm rewatching both of them whenever I'll feel like it.. They're not the only ones with inaccurate ratings on my list (so are the Pokémon movies I've given a rating to for example), but for most of the series I'm pretty happy with the ratings I've given
Edit: another big example, possibly the biggest, is Pupa which I consider to be objectively one of the worst anime out there, though I found it to be extremely enjoyable for reasons I don't even know

Saw that you started AgK. Not to dissuade you from watching it, but I found it to be less than stellar.. I'd like to hear your thoughts on it when you're finished.
Gluzin Jun 4, 2016 4:48 PM
What do you like about K-On? I'm enjoying the anime a lot myself.
ArchimeM Jun 4, 2016 12:11 PM
yeah I really loved it when a creator is able to use everything at their disposal to create a story (a lot of yuasa's shows are like that). It made everything a lot interesting to watch. I think most of the time the best way of making something meaningful is by using simple concepts (like in the first half of kaiba) and delevelopping them. I always hate when something tries to be profound, but ends up being a bunch of meaningless monologues about nonsense.
Yes the OST is brillant. I even listen to it on its own from time to time. Its used so well in the story its isane.

Haha, um no it's not like I'm avoiding it if thats what you mean. I think I'll just give a 10 to my favorite anime of all time, but I dont really have a clear one atm. I've given 10s before, but they didnt last because I keep on second guessing myself and I love a lot of my 9s around the same amount. I've actually ended kicking a few shows out of my all time favs, the more I thought about it xD. but if you're curious my top 3 in enjoyment are Monster, NGE and Nana.

I'm going to try and re-watch a few favs to hopefully love them even more. Then with luck, my own bias will overpower my reasoning and I'll stop being such a cynic.

I'm glad that you liked Kaiba so much.
It’s time to ditch the text file.
