Really liking Franxx that much huh, thoughts?

I honestly forgot we were friends on here(some random from the harmonix rock band forums). None the less I'm glad I took a look at your profile since Allison to Lillia is something I wasn't even aware of. Looks good

Okay I finished adding everything on my to watch list. Not sure if everything on there is any good or not, just anime to check out. Going to watch Tokyo Magnitude 8.0 right now. Thanks for the help, I appreciate it.

Yo. I keep forgetting AIM exists since I've been using Skype more frequently but we're gonna talk one of these days, gosh dang it.

I finished the first episode of Sailor Moon Crystal a couple of hours ago and I've been reading a lot of discussion on it and I think my initial feelings are still intact: I'm letting nostalgia cloud my judgment of this show, but right now it doesn't completely feel like Sailor Moon. The character design is driving me crazy - I thought there was a chance I'd feel better about it when I saw it animated, but that didn't do much for me. Maybe because the character designer is the same person who worked on designs for Code Geass? Or so I remember reading at some point, I dunno. I don't like how Code Geass looks, so ugh.

Also the transformation sequence is longer than the original - just by a few seconds, but even though that's the case, I don't like it that much. It doesn't feel as special or something and even Usagi's facial expressions feel toned down. Each time I watch the transformation though, I think I'm a little more comfortable with it, but that could either make it or break it once I see the other senshi transforming.

I know I'm ranting and nitpicking over the first episode, but I'm trying to be hopeful. I just felt like I needed to unload this off my mind. If you've seen it, tell me what you thought. I'm not alone in my thinking according to what others are saying, but I kinda wish I thought differently. I'll keep watching, regardless.

It also occurred to me that I haven't been on MAL in months, so, I figure SMC was a good chance to jump back into it for a bit. I always want to do a marathon a ton of stuff before a con, but I only get through a show or two at the most. Eh, it's worth trying, I guess.

How have you been?

Sorry for the last response, been overseas for the past 2 and a half weeks so haven't been online at all.
Impressive list, we certainly share a lot of favourites. I'm tempted to make one of my own now.
This is a track I was able to find by Rare Monk on youtube, there were only a handful of songs I could find unfortunately: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4Z8plFBYfH0

Hah that was pretty damn cool.
Goobs May 8, 2014 9:29 PM
Once again, I'm much the same, Indie/Alt Rock makes up a large portion of my listening, though I tend to listen to an awful lot as well (Shoegaze and Slowcore being personal favourites).
What are your favourites of the genre?
I've been listening to a lot of Rare Monk lately. You heard of them?
Goobs May 8, 2014 5:48 AM
Indeed. It does seem we have a fair amount in common when it comes to music and anime!
So is Hip-Hop your go to, preferred genre?

I know what you mean. When I still had my Hulu subscription, I blew through over half of Hikaru no Go in a week's time. It was much more comfy laying in bed and watching episodes queue up on my TV rather than sitting in front of a monitor. I canceled it though because I wasn't using it very much and forgot about it, plus I couldn't get it to play anything on my tablet. I should give Crunchyroll's subscription a try; I've watched a few series on there but never did the freebie trial or anything.

And yes, I have heard enough Evangelion talk to be like, "It's about time I finally watched this." I loved it. I just finished it tonight and was mind blown. The discussion thread for the last episode on MAL is all "worst ending ever" but I'm thinking, "What? Sure, it was bizarre and you weren't expecting it, but c'mon, I was more emotionally invested in these characters than I was concerned with the plot." Plus I've got the End of Evangelion movie to look forward to now.

Hey, man, it's your list, your rules. I'm afraid to do spurts of updates because I'd forget things. I've gotten into the habit of whenever I watch something, I add it to my list and try to write a little bit of my thoughts on it. That way, if I want to reflect on my initial reaction, I have something to compare it to if I decide to rewatch it, or if I recall the title I can try to remember what I felt and thought about it.

If only I did the same thing for my manga list! My manga list is way out of proportion and could use some severe updating and organizing, but I'm just not as invested in keeping it as up to date as I am my anime one. Maybe because it reminds me just how many series are hard to find scanlated or that they're OOP and hard to find and buy for my collection... ugh.

Yooooooooooo, dude! Long time no talk! How have you been?

Right now I feel like I'm going through a rite of passage with my anime fandom because I'm finally watching Neon Genesis Evangelion. It's really surreal because I always pictured myself eventually watching it, I just didn't know if that would ever be true or not. I'm glad it is, though, because I'm enjoying it, but I'm leery because it's Gainax. I keep trying to remind myself of this as I get closer to the ending. Also, from what I've read and understand the End of Evangelion movie is full of WTFuckery. I guess I'll get to that movie when it's all said and done...

And otherwise I watched Kill la Kill, which I loved and had a lot of fun watching... and some movies. I've jumped into an anime spurt of watching after not watching anything for months. And when I say "not watching anything" I mean anything new - I've basically been rewatching certain episodes of Madoka Magica from time to time. I went to see the third movie in theatres, which was cool, so I guess that counts as new? My Madoka obsession has hit me baaaaad, man.

Otherwise, it looks like you're seeing a bunch of currently airing stuff! That's awesome. I haven't watched a lot of shows as they currently air, but I'm sure I will when Sailor Moon Crystal finally comes out this summer... provided it doesn't get delayed again.

Good to hear from you!

magi added on the 13th and no updates. get to watching that! the first four to five episodes kind of drag on but after that it really picks up and was one of the better shows from that season :3
KaiZodd Apr 30, 2012 8:28 AM
Hey, its been a while! Was wondering if you still had any interest in the "High Noon" western anime club. It came to mind again. Haha.
CardcaptorKitty Mar 9, 2012 10:27 PM
Long time no post~ :D

Ah, I see you watched Grave of the Fireflies not too long ago. I gave it a 10 as well; I cried and normally anime doesn't make me cry. I was really surprised by the way I got so attached to the characters, and maybe because I'm an older sibling myself that it really got to me. But, man. That was brutal. I kind of want to rewatch it to re-experience it again, but I know your initial viewing is nothing like the rewatch, which is a shame. The initial viewing is more emotion driven to me, while the rewatch winds up being more intellectually driven since I tend to pick out scenes and think about them more critically.

Also, I've been kind of curious about Serial Experiments Lain ever since I learned about it. I've been even more so recently due to it having some similarities connected to one of my favorite series at the moment; not that I mean to stand on tiptoes around a spoiler contained in that series by mentioning as such, but I don't like to spoil people unless they're cool about it. For me, it can go either way, but it mostly depends on the series. Spoilers tend to get burned into my head as soon as I read them and become impenetrable scars as I continue forward, so once I learn about them, it's over for me.

Otherwise, I decided to make a challenge for myself this month and watch an anime movie everyday. I did okay the first week but now I'm behind by a week and I'll need to play catch up over my spring break next week. So far, I've liked what I've seen (Grave of the Fireflies being part of this challenge as well).

People will always habitually order everything into lists, and numbers help that.

Reviewing without numbers comes with practice, you can really only do it if you look at a subject as a sum of itself rather than it's relativity to others.

I suppose numbers do have their uses, for instance easy identification when looking at another user's anime list. I have to say I approve wholeheartedly on your choice of anime that deserve 10s. Except for Gunslinger Girl.
It’s time to ditch the text file.
Keep track of your anime easily by creating your own list.
